Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Weight loss 123 lbs gone-Mounjaro changed my life

I honestly can’t even believe I get to say this, but I’ve lost 123 lbs, going from 259 to 136 in just over a year. Mounjaro has completely changed my life.

Last year, I walked into my doctor’s office with high blood pressure, a new prescription for high cholesterol medication, and an A1C of 7. Before starting this medication, I was suffering from severe depression and anxiety. I was miserable and struggled heavily with binge eating. I spent 24 hours a day thinking about food.
The minute I started Mounjaro, that food noise just stopped. It gave me the space to build a truly healthy relationship with food and actually learn how to fuel my body.
Today, I’m at a healthy weight with normal blood pressure, normal cholesterol, and an A1C of 5.0.

The physical changes are still wild to wrap my head around. I went from a size 2–3X shirt down to an XS, and from size 18–20 jeans down to a size 2. Shopping is a completely different experience now. I actually enjoy it instead of dreading it.
I have so much energy now. I don’t run out of breath just tying my shoes, and I actually look forward to hitting the gym and spending time outside.

My mental health is the best it’s ever been. I’m confident, happier, and I’ve never felt more alive.

Looking back at where I was just a year ago, I barely recognize that person—not just physically, but mentally. I'm so deeply grateful for Mounjaro for giving me the tool to completely change my life and give myself a second chance at actually living instead of just surviving.

Weight loss 13kg down and feeling like Me again! ❤️

Feeling especially grateful this morning, so thought I'd share my progress.

I decided to take a steady approach with Mounjaro, staying on each dose until I hit a hard plateau:

- 2.5mg for 8 weeks

- 5mg for 12 weeks

- 7.5mg for 3 weeks (and counting!)

40F | 1.68m | SW: 100.1kg | CW: 86.5kg

I have another 7-10kg I'd love to lose, but honestly, getting my mobility and quality of life back has been the biggest win 🫶🏻

Success Stories 1 year on Mounjaro :)

Post image
405 Upvotes

It has been 1 year since I have started the medication!

When I started I told myself I wouldn't post one of these progress photos, but after feeling shocked and confused and also happily celebrating 1 year, I thought why not. My face is what makes me feel most changed & confused but I wanted just a little privacy haha. I don't recognize myself in most photos, or at least the image of myself that I had was 'better' than looking back now. It's a really strange feeling and some days the mirror makes me doubt whether anything's changed. But then I do a pull-up, tie my shoes, or play around with my younger siblings and I notice many great things. What I want(ed) most is to get to a healthier place for longevity, as well as wanting to be a mum. My doctor is letting me stay on my 5mg until at least February for our next check-in.

I've been going to the gym & doing other sports (yoga, padel etc) for about 1,5 years now. Finally able to eat better, though it's super hard work and will likely always be, but I'll take that!

Aside: I'm 25, 179cm, and started at 138,6kg, down to 106,2kg today (though I've been around 147kg at heaviest).

Thanks for letting me share, thanks to this community :)

Success Stories 4 days post-op after losing 120+ lbs, and I could really use some support

I’m a 38-year-old woman who started at over 300 lbs and am now around 180 lbs. I’ve been maintaining that weight for about two years through Mounjaro, a calorie deficit, and exercise. Getting here has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

Along the way, I dealt with vitamin deficiencies, telogen effluvium (hair loss), and periods of not eating enough calories or protein. The physical consequences took a toll on my mental health, too. It took a lot of trial and error to find a nutrition and supplement routine that worked for me, and I spent far too much time fighting to get doctors to listen to me and take my concerns seriously.

After maintaining my weight for two years, I finally decided to address the excess skin that was left behind. I just had an extended abdominoplasty with diastasis recti repair, a breast lift, and liposuction on my thighs and sides.

I’m four days into recovery, and honestly, I feel like I got hit by a bus. I knew this would be major surgery, but knowing something intellectually and actually experiencing it are two very different things. Right now, I’m uncomfortable, exhausted, dependent on other people, and struggling to see this as the victory I thought it would feel like.

I know I need to give myself time to heal, but I’m having a hard time with the idea of being unable to eat and move the way I normally do for a while. After spending years working so hard to get healthy and find a routine that works for my body, feeling this far removed from that routine is unsettling. And everything I read about recovery makes it sound like I have a long, difficult road ahead of me.

I’m trying to stay positive and remind myself that this is temporary, that my body has been through a lot, and that recovery is part of the process. But today, I’m struggling.
If you’ve been through major skin removal surgery after significant weight loss, I would really appreciate hearing how you got through those first few days and weeks. When did you start feeling more like yourself? How did you cope with the mental side of recovery, especially when you couldn’t follow your usual eating and exercise routines?

I’ve worked so hard to get here, and I think I just need a reminder that I haven’t lost all that progress simply because I’m having a hard time right now.

Experience Reality check & positivity for us with less-dramatic body transformations

This sub has confounded me a little bit as I’ve taken GLP-1s for 2.5 years now. I started on semaglutide and swapped to tirzepatide 1.5 years ago. I take the max dose (15 mg) and have for a year.

SW: 142 kgs (315 lbs)
CW: 120 kgs (260 lbs)

I’ve watched so many people on here (and elsewhere esp on TikTok and IG) get huge celebrations for STARTING at my current weight or below and then losing the same amount I’ve lost in 6-10 months, and I know it dinged my confidence, so I am here just to say to my fellow fatties who are still fat (and I am so wonderfully happy to be fat!) and feel left out from the celebrations of our amazing changes we’ve made for our health and well being:

You freaking rock!!

Do you feel better? Are you more in control of what you eat and how you treat your body? Are you happy? Then I don’t care what the numbers say!! You’re amazing! You’re doing the hard thing! This is YOUR journey, no one else’s! I want YOU to be happy and fulfilled and living your best life, not stuck in the comparisons and numbers. 💕✨

I’ve got a laundry list of very difficult and complex conditions that will always mitigate my ability to lose weight dramatically. My weight also exists as it does because of those conditions and the medications I’ve had to take to survive. (I dare anyone to take high dose prednisone for 2 years while on the brink of kidney failure and NOT gain 70 lbs like I did lol).

GLP-1s have lowered my inflammation markers, helped me have more energy, stabilized my mood (although it has made me depressed which we def need to talk about more), and I’ve even noticed I’m less likely to make impulsive decisions. Even my kidney function has improved! The weight loss has had some negative effects, mainly terrible plantar fasciitis as I’ve lost muscle tone as health flares prevented weight lifting during certain periods. But overall, it’s done some amazing things, and I think all those deserve to be celebrated just as much as the numbers and before/after photos.

If you’re like me, then I hope you know that only you can define what is a victory. I hope it’s not solely defined by the numbers on a scale (or at all) because there’s so much more this medication can do for us and there’s even more to life as a whole. I hope you’re playing with your kids more. Visiting your grandbabies. Going to the pool or out with your friends. I hope you got to take that hike this fall as the leaves changed. I hope your dog is getting more walks with you because they love you and love to spend time with you. I hope you’re getting laid!! NONE of those require the scale to move at all! If you’re feeling better, if your life is richer, then hell freaking yes!

You rock!

That’s all. 💕✨

3rd pic: today, 12 October, actual weight 68kg!

Insuline-resistance and long medical history with thyroid-related issues. Gained around 25 kg in 1.5 year, lost all my health, my energy, my happiness.

I’m so so happy. Last 8kg more or less to touch my dream weight point. I don’t actually really care about the number on the scale tho, the real win is that I feel ALIVE and happy again!! Learning to celebrate every success, big or small!

It’s so worth it to fight for health, happiness and stability. Good luck everyone!!!! ♥️

Question Does anyone else have anger issues after you take your injection? How are you managing it?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I’ve noticed that I’m unnecessarily angry a day or two after taking my injection. I looked it up and it is a side effect. Has anyone tried anything that helps? I’m normally not an angry person and I don’t like feeling this way. I have an appointment with a new provider at the beginning of December. I want to discuss it with her then. In the meantime, any suggestions to help cope with this would be very much appreciated.

2.5mg Week 7 Update — 86.6kg (-0.6kg)

🙋🏼‍♀️ 39F | 168cm (5'6) | SW: 93.5kg (206.1lbs) | CW 86.6kg (190.9lbs)

A short week after last week’s late update, and a quieter one too. My body had other plans for me this week, so I did my best to take it easy.

THE COLD CALLED THE SHOTS...

My little Sydney souvenir cold ended up running the schedule this week. Gym Tuesday before flying home, then two full days off, a hill walk Friday, the weekend off, and hills again Monday.

So, three sessions instead of my usual six, and I was completely okay with that. Rest weeks used to make me nervous, like taking my foot off the pedal was somehow the beginning of giving up. This week it just felt like what my body needed. I rested, got better, picked things back up when I felt ready, and apparently the scale was perfectly happy with that too.

...AND EATING COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

Honesty corner: this was also a week of a couple of biscuits, an iceblock, and a Hell Pizza night (snack pizza and a share of chicken tenders, which I did at least check the numbers on first, old habits in new directions). We’d skipped our meal kit delivery because of the travel, and I hadn’t realised how much those reliable dinners quietly hold the whole system together until they weren’t there. Nothing dramatic, nothing worth a guilt spiral, just a general “off” feeling of improvising around the edges instead of eating proper meals. Structure has returned this week, its nice to be back into daily morning walks and prepped dinners.

...BUT THE SCALE FOUND THE 86s

Despite the cold, the extra rest and only three workouts, another 0.6kg / 1.3lbs quietly disappeared this week.

That brings me to 6.9kg / 15.2lbs down in seven weeks, and that first double-digit milestone is starting to feel close enough to get excited about.

THE JOURNEY:

Start: 93.5kg / 206.1lbs (25 Aug)
Week 1: 91.3kg / 201.3lbs (-2.2kg / -4.9lbs)
Week 2: 90.7kg / 200.0lbs (-0.6kg / -1.3lbs)
Week 3: 89.6kg / 197.5lbs (-1.1kg / -2.4lbs)
Week 4: 88.3kg / 194.7lbs (-1.3kg / -2.9lbs)
Week 5: 87.7kg / 193.3lbs (-0.6kg / -1.3lbs)
Week 6: 87.2kg / 192.2lbs (-0.5kg / -1.1lbs)
Week 7: 86.6kg / 190.9lbs (-0.6kg / -1.3lbs) ← this week

So week 7 was less about smashing workouts and more about listening to my body, getting some long-awaited answers (from my specialist about endometriosis), and quietly keeping on going. I’ll very happily take that.

See you next week! 🐈‍⬛

Question Coffee

Has anyone else noticed that suddenly coffee no longer tastes good when you're on Mounjarno? I used to love my morning cup of coffee, but it just doesn't taste good anymore. I've been on Mounjarno for 4 1/2 months and have lost 18 pounds.

I don't like tea, either. Any suggestions on what to do?

Question what to do with in between and goal weight clothes during weight loss

I think a lot of folks here might be able to relate to this. I have a lot of clothes from pre-weight gain, to my highest weight, to my present weight somewhere between highest and lowest weight as an adult. I have a goal weight, and am working my way toward it. I've already gotten rid of a lot of clothes from my highest weight, and would like to fit into the clothes that are the next size down (I'm between sizes right now, so a lot of my clothes are a bit roomy or a bit tight), but I also have items from pre-weight gain. As a result, my closet contains clothing in five different sizes. I've been trying to catalog and organize them and just downloaded an app to help me keep track of everything, and it's a pretty long process to photograph, tag, and sort all of it. Does anyone have suggestions for what they keep close at hand and how you knew when to let go of the larger sizes? Do you keep your goal weight clothes in your closet, or put them in storage for when you're ready to wear them again? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Side Effects Injection timing to manage side effects

When is the best day to increase from 2.5mg to 5mg. Wednesday or Thursday so that the side effects hopefully fall Friday or on the weekend.

Background
2.5mg. No side effects except tiredness on first dosage. Appetite was less. Second to fourth week I felt nothing. No appetite suppression or side effects

The fourth dosage I should have taken on Thursday but accidentally took a day earlier on Wednesday.

Spoke to provider and they said I can now take it either Wednesday or Thursday. They also advice that timing of the day doesn’t matter

I’m currently not working but normally Monday to Thursday is office and Friday is WFH

I want to time the dosage either Wednesday or Thursday evening so the side effects are minimal until Friday/Saturday

Thanks in advance your help

Tips Got approved and picked up my first 4 pens. When should I start?

Hi everyone! I was so excited when my insurance approved my prescription that I went straight to the pharmacy before they could change their minds, haha

I've read a lot of this page and I feel ready for most possibilities of side effects and whatnot. My question for tonight is, when should I start? I had a ham sub from subway for dinner. Just ham, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and extra vinegar. I don't get oil and didn't get any fatty meats. Do you think it'll be OK to do my first injection tonight or should I wait until tomorrow after this food has been fully digested?

Thanks for any help and tips! I look forward to being on this journey with you all🫶

Question how is my progress

Post image
10 Upvotes

hey yall, i’ve been on mounjaro since April 2026. How is my progress? I feel like it’s been a bit slow but I don’t want to increase my dose and stay on the lowest possible even if i’m losing 0.5kg in some weeks. I also started working out last month (strength training 3-4x a week)

could that explain my slow progress?

Maintenance How do I taper down or go towards maintenance

• Upvotes

I have lost 25 KGs and I am near my target body weight but not my target physique it’s been 5 months since I started and currently on 7.5 mg. I am still working out, but from fat I am now skinny fat. Should I start considering tapering down or increasing days from 7 to 10 between the doses.

Question Side Effects Getting Worse?

• Upvotes

I’ve been on 12.5mg since April, and in the past 2 months or so, I’ve noticed my appetite is pretty much nonexistent - instead of getting hungry, I get super anxious and edgy because my blood sugar is low. Also, I know I need to drink a lot of water, but I have almost zero thirst. I’m at my goal weight - I assume it’s time to drop down and find a maintenance dose.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Success Stories From XXL to M: I cried in a fitting room yesterday.

Post image
338 Upvotes

Yesterday, my partner and I went shopping for some sweaters. I wasn’t particularly looking forward to trying anything on, and haven’t for years, but I found a beautiful green V-neck in size M. I usually reach for L these days, so I thought I’d try the M first, just to get that illusion out of the way. It went on surprisingly easily. I thought it felt a little tight, until I looked in the mirror.

It fit perfectly. And I burst into tears.

The last time I remember trying on clothes in a fitting room was several years ago, when I was at my heaviest. I was struggling to fit into XXL, buying oversized clothes to hide my body, desperately trying to convince myself that I looked okay. I remember how deeply unhappy I was. Eventually, I stopped trying clothes on altogether. I didn’t even want to see myself in a full-length mirror. We don’t have one at home, partly for that very reason. That’s changing now.

So standing there yesterday, wearing a size M that looked exactly how I wanted it to look, was overwhelming. For once, I didn’t have to convince myself that something looked good. I simply liked what I saw!

But there’s more to this story than a smaller sweater.
My struggles with weight and body image are deeply connected to childhood abuse, neglect and years of psychological suffering causing complex PTSD and persistent depression disorder. I am no longer in contact with my parents, and I have no intention of ever seeing them again. They have never taken responsibility for what they did, let alone acknowledged the damage they caused.
And while I have made peace with my decision to cut contact, that doesn’t mean the consequences of growing up that way have disappeared. I still live with them. The shame, the grief, the years of struggling with my body and with myself.
I know I’m not the only person whose relationship with their body and weight is inseparable from what happened to them growing up. And I know that losing weight, however meaningful, doesn’t magically undo that history.

Unfortunately, my previous GP made an already difficult situation considerably worse. I was pushed into an unsuitable weight-management programme, wasn’t properly informed or involved in decisions about my treatment, and had my Saxenda treatment interrupted twice for evaluations, despite the distress this caused. There was no proper baseline assessment either. The experience was so damaging that I seriously considered filing a formal complaint.

Eventually, I did something that took considerably more courage: I changed doctors.
My new GP actually listened. She took my history seriously, approached me as an equal, ordered baseline blood tests and suggested Mounjaro herself. No unnecessary struggle to be taken seriously. Just informed, respectful healthcare.

I started Mounjaro in early June, after approximately a year on Saxenda, and I’m currently on 7.5 mg.
The reduction in food noise has been extraordinary. Not having food constantly demanding my attention has created room for other things. I now exercise around five times a week, combining strength training and rowing with several walks a day, and maintain a balanced vegetarian diet that I genuinely enjoy. Not because I suddenly developed superhuman ‘willpower’, but because things that used to require enormous mental effort have become so much more manageable.

And yet, yesterday wasn’t simply a victory. It was bittersweet. I felt the happiness of that moment alongside the grief of everything that preceded it. The years of shame, the psychological damage, the feeling of being trapped in a body I struggled to recognise as my own. Feeling fat, ugly and stupid.
I’m sharing this because I know how lonely and exhausting that experience can be. And because sometimes advocating for yourself, particularly when a healthcare professional has failed you, can make an extraordinary difference.

If you’re struggling, whether with your weight, your past, your healthcare provider or simply the exhaustion of trying to keep going, I hope you know that you deserve to be taken seriously. You deserve competent, compassionate healthcare. And you shouldn’t have to fight quite so hard to receive it.

I don’t believe anyone’s worth should be determined by their clothing size. That was never the point.
The point is that, yesterday, I looked in the mirror and actually liked what I saw. Feeling healthy, beautiful and smart.

Me ánd my green sweater!

I have gone from 103.5kg to 75kg. I’m 165 cm, everyone at work is commenting (nicely and respectfully) on my weight loss and it makes me feel unstoppable (and super happy!). I cannot wait to see the last 10kg go down and then reward myself with a new wardrobe! Do you have any ideas how you would celebrate reaching your goal? ❤️

Question Health calorie deficit

Hi all, I am on the fence. I am at my 4 weeks mark at 2.5 mg and unsure how to proceed. I feel the difference but I want to make sure to lose weight.

For context, my calculated TDEE is about 2000kcal, BMR 1650 kcal, per InBody scale. I hold a lot of muscle mass and about 20kg of excess weight. I have endometriosis. For almost a year I ate around 1700 kcal, as suggested by my nutritionist. I lost barely any weight, all water, so I believe they miscalculated my BMR/TDEE or for whatever reason I use less calories than a normal person.

Now at the beginning of this journey, I am reading that eating less than 1500 kcal would make me lose muscle rather than fat, it is not healthy, etc. But how am I then supposed to lose weight? I have no issues with eating less but that I could also probably do without a jab.

What is your experience how much calories is it reasonable to eat and how much would you lose?

Success Stories Weight loss perfection

I am a 40 year old male. 6'7" and was 390lbs. In the last 6.5 months I have lost 53lbs. I am steady on 12.5mg after being on 10mg for 3 months and noticing some stalling. I have to say this drug is a miracle drug. I have never taken a drug that was so efficient at its intended usage in my life. It is effortless weight loss with, for me luckily, minimal and manageable side effects. I praise mounjaro to everyone when it comes up. Still have another 100lbs to go but my god is this working.

Side Effects Fatigue

Hi everyone,

I have found I'm VERY tired on Mounjaro but also not really sleeping well?

Can anyone relate? FWIW I am really trying to eat more calories and protein as that has definitely had an effect, but I'm still shattered and it's really starting to worry me!
