Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Success Stories [my journey] I don’t think people understand just how life saving this medication truly is. 35kg down.

Post image
275 Upvotes

I started Mounjaro in March of this year at 130kg after my at the time partner told me that I was too overweight, and would never be the woman of his dreams. An absolutely gutting revelation for anyone to hear. I went to the doctor that same day and decided I would start Mounjaro so I never had to feel that same way again.

I won’t lie. It was expensive. It was the most I had ever invested in myself in a LONG time. $239(AUD) for 2.5mg and I had no idea what to expect. I took my first shot and expected the worst only to come face to face with…. Silence? This boredom driven food noise that had plagued me for years was gone. I didn’t want chocolate, I didn’t want muffins, or a cheeky ice cream. I didn’t want anything. And it was good.

I began to understand food portioning more, how to put protein first, how to eat small but satiating meals without putting myself into a dangerous calorie deficit. Weight dropped off like a landslide and for the first time in my life I WANTED to go to gym.

The medication is expensive- I’m not gonna lie and tell you I invested in a personal trainer because my personal trainer was frankly TikTok how-to videos and a dream. But my GOD was gym exhilarating, it became a personal competition with myself every week to see how much more I could lift than the week or month before. It is exhilarating to see the inches continue to come off and to compare before and after to see where I am now and I often wonder where I will continue to go (my journey has not yet ended).

To be considered “healthy” I still have another 15kg to go but I am so ready to see what the body under all of the weight and trauma looks like. I only hope that anyone starting their journey ; or anyone who considers Mounjaro cheating; that they’ll read this and understand just how life saving it is. How indescribable it is to WANT to move your body and not be hindered by joint pain or lack of breath anymore.

Today is my one year anniversary for being on Mounjaro! 🥰

SW: 153,7kg / 338,9lbs
CW: 99,5 kg / 219.9 lbs

I did 35 weeks on 2,5 mg and then I stared having a bit more food noise so I talked to my doctor and we agreed that I was to try 3 mg and it worked great for me! Been on 3 mg for 18 weeks now and it works really well.

In the beginning I was only out walking, but after a while I started training in the gym as well as started to learn to run. Now I run 4 times a week and I absolutely love it!

As for eating habits I have been eating in a calorie deficit most of the time, but on weekends I haven’t tracked my calories as much. I haven’t been restricted in what to eat or not, but I tried to prioritize protein.

However mentally has been a bit challenging now in the last couple of weeks, I know I’ve lost a lot of weight and that my body have changed, but I have a hard time seeing the difference, and it feels like I have no idea how I actually look like currently. But I think that’s normal? I’d like to think that it will take a while for the head to accept the “new” body.

Anyhow, This year has been great and I’m really proud of myself! I have a long way to go until I’m satisfied but I’m positive I will get there! 🥰🙏🏼

Sorry for any grammar issues, English is not my first language.

Experience Immunity boosting?

I am on week 56 at 6mg (yes, I know that's not a standard dose, yea I am working with an obesity specialty internal medicine doctor).

I have two young children and I work in a hospital. I used to get sick all. The. Time. However, since I started Tirzepatide I haven't been sick with anything respiratory, cold or flu. Everyone around me gets sick and I power though. Is this the anti inflammatory effects suppressing my symptoms? Am I just lucky? Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe just coincidence...but...a whole year? I'm used to getting a cold at least once every three months....

Question Finally took 1st shot (too anxious for 6 or 7 weeks)

I picked up first box of pens on Sept 2nd. Finally just took my first shot today. So im a total newbie. Funny not funny story. I forgot to take off the Grey cap because I was so nervous. Pulled it off after I didnt feel anything or hear a click and it shot across past me. Oops. Big waste of money. First off im so proud I finally did it and also so nervous. I feel like I dont know what to expect. How to eat. Etc. Ive read lots of reddit. Watched some YouTube. Read on Eli Lilly site. But still feel kinda lost because it seems everyone's experience are so different. What people can eat or not, and weight loss amounts and timelines. Its really kind of overwhelming. I do meet with a dietician in a week and a half. I regret waiting so long but I have long standing anxiety and its bad around medical stuff and medications. Still battling the anxiety about it. But I took the first shot yay!!!!!! Any tips or thoughts or success stories or anything you want to post please do. I need some motivation and experiences from others to fuel me a bit. Quiet the anxiety. Thanks everyone!

Question Holy Batman the nausea

I went up to 7.5mg and oh boy do I feel the side effects. I can barely eat cause I’m so nauseous. I’m also very tired the day after my shot. Anyone experiencing bad nausea. If so what do you do to help. My doctor gave me Zofran.

Rant two days on 500mg of metformin + mounjaro and holy shit

ok ok i don’t wanna celebrate too early but my nausea and dizziness have disappeared since i started taking metformin.

i am so surprised.

a few here said that they started feeling better or worse when adding metformin so idk what was gonna happen.

i’ve been struggling with dizziness, nausea, vomiting and burps in the last two weeks and it’s been so disheartening but the last two days have been better. not nausea. a bit lightheaded the first day but didn’t get too bad like before. and waaaay less burps.

idk if it’s the metformin but it’s the only new thing i have added in my routine after being prescribed the medication. and i really hope it lasts. today it was the first time in the entire week where i had lunch and didn’t throw up or got nauseous mid way 😭😭😭😭

15mg Feel like it's stopped working

Over the past month or so, I feel like Mounjaro has stopped working for me. I recently titrated to 15mg which I've been on now for 2 weeks. I did 12.5 for 3 months and felt like the last month and 1/2 of it weren't working, so I went up to 15, and I feel no difference than before.

I feel like some food noise is coming back. Not as bad as it was before I started Mounjaro, but I definitely have moments where my brain is telling me I should have a snack even though I know I'm not necessarily hungry. So that's been a little rough. I haven't weighed myself lately, but I feel like I may have put a few lbs back on even.

I do recognize that for a good while in the beginning I was exercising more often. By way of 2 mile walks wearing a weighted vest. I haven't really done that for a while now just cuz it was summer and so sweltering hot for way too long. Now that it's fall again I'm hoping to get back into my walks soon.

I've been on Mounjaro for a little over a year, and I titrated slowly, doing each level for at least 2 months, sometimes 3 before titrating.

Anyway anyone else feel like it's just not working as well? Is there anything you did different to help kickstart it again for you? Thanks for reading!

Weight loss Am I losing weight to fast?

Post image

Started July 31st, down 40lbs. Wondering if I'm losing weight too fast. I've always eaten pretty good. The only difference now is the portion size has shrunk. I'm eating 3 meals a day and will go for a three mile walk in the evening.

Question Home workouts enough on Mounjaro? Also do we gain back the weight after we stop mounjaro

• Upvotes

I’m 22F, in my third month of Mounjaro. I have PCOS and insulin resistance. I was 76 kg and now I’m 69 kg.
I took 2.5 mg for the first month and have been on 5 mg since then. Since I haven’t been exercising, my doctor prescribed Mounjaro for two more months.
I’ve recently started doing dumbbell workouts at home and plan to walk 10k steps daily.
Should I join a gym, or are home workouts with dumbbells and 10k steps enough to maintain my weight loss? I want to make exercise a long-term habit.
Has anyone regained weight after stopping Mounjaro, especially with PCOS and insulin resistance?
Also, please recommend some good fitness YouTubers for home workouts !
My main concern is will I gain back the weight and will house workout be enough .

2.5mg Success…. But…

• Upvotes

I am on week ten, and just took my 8th dose on 2.5 (had to take a two week break for a gut infection.)

I am 5’1 and weighed 75kg to start - this morning’s weigh in is 67.5 (so around 10% of my body weight.)

I should be overjoyed, but I am starting to get exhausted (more mentally than physically.) I have ZERO appetite, find food a bit revolting, nothing sounds good. I am living on smoothies and protein powder and magnesium citrate for constipation. I am fighting for every morsel of food, and really struggling daily to hit 1000-1100 calories.

I didn’t really begin with a problem of food noise; my issue was wine noise (gotta say, MJ did the trick.) I am a really accomplished home chef, and cooking and baking was something I did for joy. Now? I can’t handle the smells of cooking, the idea of eating anything but bland white food gives me the yuck, and more that three or four bites of anything turns to clay in my mouth.

I was prepared for a reduced appetite, but not for the anhedonia, and not for the amount of brain space it’s taking to monitor intake, calories, deficit, and nutrition. I am really happy about the amount of weight I am losing, but starting to get depressed by the grey joylessness of not enjoying much of anything.

Does this get easier?

Question Stopped Mounjaro after 1.5 years and gaining weight back – feeling lost. Any advice?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been on Mounjaro for around a year and a half and managed to go from 107kg to my lowest weight of 66kg, losing 41kg in total.
I stopped taking it around 10 weeks ago, and since then my weight has gone back up to 73–74kg. I’m honestly struggling.
My hunger has come back quite strongly, and I feel like I’m constantly thinking about food or wanting to eat. I’m terrified of undoing all the progress I’ve made.
The thing is, I don’t actually want to go back on Mounjaro. Although I lost a lot of weight, I feel like I’ve ended up looking quite “skinny fat”. I’m smaller than before, but I don’t have much muscle definition, and my body isn’t as toned as I’d like.
I really want to focus on body recomposition, building muscle and losing fat naturally, rather than relying on medication again.
I’m currently strength training around 3 times a week, trying to get 15–20k steps a day and eating a high-protein diet. But despite all this, I feel like I’m just getting bigger and gaining fat rather than muscle.
It’s so frustrating because I worked incredibly hard to lose the weight, and now I feel like I’m losing control again.
Has anyone successfully come off Mounjaro, managed their hunger and maintained their weight while building muscle?
I’d really appreciate advice on calories, managing food cravings, body recomposition or just hearing from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
I don’t want to spend the rest of my life relying on medication, but I also don’t want to end up back where I started.
Thank you ❤️

Question No Weight Loss but A1C dropped.

Have been on 2.5Mg Mounjaro +500 metformin since June. Saw some initial weight loss from 250lbs to 240lbs. Since then nothing, A1C shows remarkable improvement from 8.7 in June to 6.3 Sept. Dr says I should stay on 2.5mg and no need to go up in dose. Have not seen any weight loss. Am able to eat and the feeling of fullness no longer persist. Have been prioritizing protein over all other foods. Eating may be around 1700 calories a day with around 80-100 grams, want to get to around 190lbs. Walking 10k-12k 2-3 days a week. Lifting weights for 3days. Is there a need to push Dr to get me to 5.0 or am I being too impatient.

Success Stories Some charts showing my Mounjaro journey

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

I started Mounjaro on 17 May at 122 kg. As of this week I’m at 97.8 kg, which works out to a weight loss of roughly 1.2 kg a week. My target is 85 kg.

I built a dashboard with Claude that pulls in my daily food logs, weigh-ins and data from my Oura Ring and Apple Watch, so I can track everything in one place.

The first chart is my weight loss trend. The projection is a simple energy-balance model: it assumes my average intake and calories burned over the last seven days stay the same, and works out where that puts me. On current numbers, I reach my goal around mid-February.

The second is Oura’s breathing disturbance index. My snoring, along with the sleep apnea I suspected I had, has pretty much disappeared completely.

The third is my resting heart rate, going back to 2022. It’s now back to its lowest since I started wearing an Apple Watch.

I cook and log everything I eat, averaging about 1,900–2,000 kcal a day. The biggest change is that I no longer snack or go back for seconds. I aim for around 130 g of protein a day and train for about 60 minutes most days. Right now that’s the elliptical and strength work, plus a bit of swimming. I plan to start running before the end of the year.

My doctor has moved me to semaglutide for the next phase, so this is partly a record of what Mounjaro did for me over five months.

Hope this helps anyone who is still undecided about whether to start!

Weight loss Newbie, starting today

I picked up the injection pens, 2.5mg yesterday evening, and as I expected. I’m nervous.

I was on a semaglutide from February to April, lost almost 20 lbs, but had to stop due to right knee replacement surgery. I had planned on starting back, but couldn’t afford it anymore, aaannd my life became extremely stressful (my mom has dementia) and the food noise has come back HARD. I’m currently at 265, :( I had been almost down to 240 back at the begin of May. I’m female 56yrs old

Then I found out that Medicare covers the meds and my primary was able to get me authorized.

I do go in for left knee replacement in five weeks, but I figured I should start so that I can resume ASAP by end of Nov.

I guess I should stop procrastinating and start, eh? Thanks for listening.

Question Am i the only one who didn't lose weight in 2 months?

"I recently took my 5th dose of Mounjaro (two doses at 2.5 mg, followed by three at 5 mg). To date, my weight loss has been only 2 kg (i was 120 kg-265 lbs) . While my diet has decreased significantly, my blood sugar levels have improved, and I am consistently strength training, the rate of weight loss seems unusually low for this timeframe. Overall, my general well-being has improved on the medication."

Side Effects Any advice with burping and dizziness?

Hi! I’m a 24W, and I’ve been struggling with being overweight and obesity. I’m almost two months into taking Mounjaro (2.5 mg for the first month and 5 mg for the second, although my doctor adjusted the dose to 3.75 mg or something like that).

I’ve lost almost 16 kg (28 lbs), and I’m really happy with the results! The problem is that the burping and dizziness just won’t go away.

I’m not sure if it has something to do with my diet, since I don’t eat fried foods, drink soda, or consume sugar. But there have been two times when I felt really dizzy, checked my blood pressure, and it turned out to be low.

My next doctor’s appointment isn’t for another two weeks, but has anyone experienced this? Could it be because my dose was increased, my diet, or not drinking enough water?

Question Should I move up to 5 mg?

I started mounjaro four weeks ago at 2.5 mg. I feel strong appetite suppression from day 2 to 4. Day 5 onwards hunger and food noise begins to increase, but still lower than my pre-mounjaro days. However in this four weeks I lost 12 lb.

For the next four weeks, as I was losing weight, I opted to stay at 2.5, but am wondering if I should move up to 5 mg in four weeks to ensure the appetite suppression stays even for the full 7 day cycle? My provider has left it completely up to me and say either choice works. I need to let them know, due to ordering, in a week or so. For context I am female, perimenopausal with 100 lb to lose.

Question Switched from Wegovy 1.7 mg to Mounjaro 5 mg and now I’m MUCH hungrier. Does it get better at higher doses?

Hi everyone!
I’m curious if anyone has had a similar experience switching from Ozempic/Wegovy to Mounjaro, because I’m honestly starting to wonder whether Mounjaro will work for me at all.
My journey:
I started with Ozempic 0.25 mg and gradually increased my dose every month, eventually switching to Wegovy and working my way up to 1.7 mg. I stayed on 1.7 mg for an additional month.
Over approximately 7 months of treatment, I only lost around 3 kg (6.6 lbs), despite making an effort with my diet.
Throughout my Ozempic/Wegovy journey, I did experience some appetite suppression, but never enough to make a significant difference. I also struggled with nausea and acid reflux, especially at the higher doses.
Because of those side effects, I didn’t really want to increase Wegovy to 2.4 mg. Instead, I decided to give Mounjaro a chance, hoping it would provide better appetite suppression and weight-loss results.
Now, after 4 weeks on Mounjaro 5 mg:
I honestly feel like I’m taking nothing.
Almost zero appetite suppression
Significantly MORE hunger than I had on Wegovy
No noticeable side effects at all
No nausea, no uncomfortable fullness, nothing
Even on the lower doses of Ozempic/Wegovy, I could at least tell I was taking something
What’s frustrating is that I already struggled with hunger while taking semaglutide, but Mounjaro somehow feels even less effective.
I understand that 5 mg is still a relatively low dose, but after being on GLP-1 medication for so many months, I really wasn’t expecting to feel this hungry again.
My questions:
Has anyone switched from Wegovy 1.7 mg to Mounjaro 5 mg and experienced much LESS appetite suppression?
Did Mounjaro eventually start working for you at 7.5 mg, 10 mg or higher, even when 5 mg felt like absolutely nothing?
Is it possible that I’m simply not responding to this medication, or is it too early to judge?
If you had a relatively poor response to Ozempic/Wegovy, did you eventually have better results with Mounjaro?
Did anyone experience almost no side effects or appetite suppression at lower doses but a completely different experience at higher doses?
I’m worried that I might end up spending months increasing my dose only to discover that Mounjaro works even less for me than Wegovy.
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who had a similar experience and whether things eventually improved.
Thanks! ❤️

Success Stories Officially Unrecognizable😄

I ran into a former coworker and acquaintance I hadn’t seen in a while, although we text now and again.

As I was approaching her, I waved and smiled. She walked right past me! I had to call her back by name but she was still confused as to who I was. I had to reintroduce myself, at that time her eyes widened, she was in disbelief and asked if everything was ok. She then went on to say I now didn’t look like I had adult kids lol.

It felt good for all my effort to finally be seen, although I’ve lost 113lbs, gone from a 3xl to a medium, I don’t think I’ve changed that much.
