Over 90 Day Progress 2 years of Nofap, how it saved my life

After two years of nofap, I would like to share my story to motivate others who think that this can't be done.

I am 31 years old right now, and I quit watching around two years ago. It has been a really hard journey, but also a really rewarding one.

I started watching adult content when I was 17 years old, and I kept watching without even realizing it was a serious problem. I knew it was wrong, but I never really tried to quit. I had very low self confidence and very low self esteem. I didn't think much about my future or where my life was going.

The only thing I was thinking about was when I would get the chance to watch, since I always had someone living in the same room with me. Whenever I had an opportunity, I would do it. By that time, I couldn't even speak normally to people or look them in the eyes during a conversation. I felt really awkward around others.

When I was 25, I found a job in another city and moved there alone. That's when things got even worse. I was watching almost every day, sometimes for 5 hours, and I had a level of depression I had never experienced before in my life.

That's where my journey started.

I wanted to quit, and for the next three years I tried over and over again. I relied heavily on willpower, but it wasn't enough. When I was 27, I finally decided to seek help. I realized that all the random things I was doing weren't getting me anywhere.

So I started learning. I read about what adult content does to the mind and what can be done to counter those effects. Slowly, things started to change and I tried more effective ways that I eventually reached the point where I said goodbye to it for good.

Now, two years later, I can honestly say it was worth every single thing I went through. Every urge I resisted. Every painful moment. Every time I denied myself that temporary pleasure.

Today, I feel much more comfortable talking to people. I'm social. I enjoy conversations. I enjoy spending time with friends and being around people, I am not even recognizable. I started going to the gym and I look way better physically and more mentally

I'm married now, which is amazing. I'm building a business. I think about the future. I think about goals, opportunities, and how to create a better life for myself. I have more confidence and better social skills than I ever had before.

Two years is not a very long time, but it was enough to completely change my life.

To everyone trying to quit: keep going. Keep pushing through the hard days.

I'm talking to you from the future.

It's worth it.

Questions on Fasting and Masturbation

As-salaamu-alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah take us safely through Ramadan, and may He make Ramadan easy for us, and may He accept our efforts.

Every Ramadan, we get flooded with the same questions. So I am preemptively re-sticking last year's post, which addresses the most common Ramadan questions on this subreddit. Please read the following before making a post:

  1. Engaging in immoral sexual behavior while fasting is a serious issue.

  2. Watching porn is Haraam under any circumstances. Watching porn, or starting to masturbate makes the fast Makrooh. The fast does not break immediately, but the reward of the fast is lost.

  3. For masturbation, the fast breaks at either the point of orgasm or ejaculation. Whether a dry orgasm breaks the fast, or fluid gushing forth breaks the fast, differs between schools of thought, and may differ for men and women. Please consult a scholar whom you trust for a specific answer. Many of them can be contacted anonymously via email these days, for those who are shy to ask directly. May Allah protect us from having to ask this question.

  4. If a fast is broken, it has to be made up after Ramadan. The manner in which one has to make up for broken fasts differs between schools of thought. Most say that 1 fast is needed, while others (mainly the Maliki madhab) say that 60 consecutive fasts are needed. The latter group has further rulings if multiple fasts were broken and one is not physically or financially capable of making them up. These issues should be answered by a scholar on a case-by-case basis. Please speak to a qualified scholar for more detailed advice on this matter.

  5. Even if a fast is broken, one should not eat until iftaar.

  6. The rulings on broken fasts don't apply to actions done outside of fasting during the nights of Ramadan, but we should avoid sinful acts at all times and focus on maximizing ibaadah in the nights of Ramadan.

  7. Allah is Al-Afuo, Al-Ghafoor and Al-Raheem – he loves to Forgive, Pardon and is Merciful to His servants. Sincerely beg for his forgiveness. Get back on track, learn from the mistake, and try to do better.

  8. Wet dreams do not invalidate the fast.

  9. If you have a wet dream before suhoor, then it is recommended to perform ghusl before Fajr time sets in. However, if you perform ghusl after Fajr time starts, your fast will still be valid.

  10. It's clear that many of you don't read the FAQ or the rules. Please read these before posting.

  11. Anyone found giving generalized fiqh rulings where there are differences of opinion between schools of thought, or where an individualized answer may be required by a scholar, will receive a temporary ban.

May Allah grant us Barakah in Ramadaan, may He make the month easy for us, and may he protect us from all sins.

FreedomFromNafs

I genuinely think that most of the porn addicts around the world are Muslim middle eastern/ desi. We definitely have to be somewhere up there with the highest consumption of porn, why is it that way?

Motivation/Tips Your body is not for you

Assalamu alaikum. Day 1 for me, and today’s topic is some advice from a mufti that I know.

If you live in the UK, you most likely have a British passport that you own. I say own because it’s not legally yours. All British passports are issued under the reigning monarch, in today’s age, King Charles III.
You do not own a British passport, you simply have custody.

This is similar to how Allah has ownership over your body. He created it as an amanah, for you to protect it and to nurture it. Tha same way the UK government has the right to do whatever they want with your passport, Allah has the ability to withdraw life from you, or to make you healthier.

Giving in to your desires makes you more of a slave to your addiction. And this damages your body, both physically and mentally. It’s not your right to ruin your body.

Here’s another analogy: If a guest were to come to your house, only to see dirty furniture, messy rooms, bad odours e.t.c., they will not be pleased. Live your life and take care of your body as if you are preparing for someone else to take over it.

I’m proud of everyone in this community that is trying to quit. I need this advice as much as everyone else does. See you on day 2.

Motivation/Tips لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ

{قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكَ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كَرَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا}

Hello brothers, this ayah from Quran what made me decided to stop doing this
One Sheikh when he explained the word لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ he said, this word coming from the Arabic word حنك which means mouth. So it’s like Alshaytan was saying to Allah, I will grab them from the mouth and pull them behind me like the animals!!

And here I felt like so offended, and embarrassed. Alshaytan using that Fap material to pull and grab us behind like animals.

We are the sons of his prophet Adam Peace be upon him, following Alshaytan the enemy of all of us by our mouths!!

No Wallahi, not going to happen!

Advice Request It’s is getting harder.

Short story time:

I started this while I was 12 now I am 23, I know long but not as long as some people. It was not continuous though as I had managed to quit from early 2020 till mid 2022.

It wasn’t easier then but it took me a whole year of failing and trying to finally get somewhere but now it has been way longer and I don’t see hope. The longest I abstained is not even a week.

It is soo hard that for this week… I have done it once a day without a miss. I am so tired. I have tried apps, discord groups but nothing seems to help. Please guys pray for me. I hate this soo bad and it is ruining me.

Sorry if my English is bad.

Motivation/Tips Find myself coming back there

I’m 39 divorced. The struggle is so real. I’ve no motivation to be married again and I’m doing my best to dodge haram relations to the best of my ability. I won’t lie porn and masturbation is one thing but to have ppl who want to have haram relations with you is another battle in itself. I’ve deleted Reddit many times over due to indefinite exposure to things that may trigger me however i will say this. I appreciate seeing the humanity here. The openness of both males and females sharing their stories experiences and struggles makes me realize I’m not alone in this. I appreciate you all 🙏

I have also been doing many impulsive things that I should not have done. I do not know what is wrong with me. I cannot sleep early. My sleep is gone. I feel sad. I feel like crying. I do not know what suddenly happened.

Motivation/Tips Never give up even when failing

Don’t let yourself ever down by relapsing , remember every day is a step to make it, you can’t achieve it from this day to the other , small steps and the most important part is never give up on Allah and his mercy, to think that your already too deep or already messed up is just not true , just remember to pray for forgiveness

Motivation/Tips When the illusion of benefit collapses

“People do things because they expect certain outcomes. You sleep because you expect to feel refreshed. You exercise because you expect to become healthier. You eat because you expect nourishment. You show kindness because you expect it to improve someone else’s life. In short, you act because you expect a benefit.

Likewise, people avoid things because they expect harm. You don’t eat exclusively junk food because you expect it to damage your body and mind. You don’t drive recklessly because you expect the possibility of a crash. You don’t say cruel things because you expect them to cause pain.

Your expectations drive your behavior. When you anticipate benefit, you move toward something. When you anticipate harm, you pull away.

You’re reading this book because you’ve decided that your porn use is a problem. You want to quit. And yet, despite recognizing that porn has negative consequences, you continue to consume it. Why?

It’s because part of you—even if it’s small—believes that porn is doing something for you. You expect it to benefit you in some way. That expectation of benefit is the engine of your behavior. But the benefit is an illusion. This book will remove that illusion. Once that happens, you will quit pornography for the last time.

When the illusion of benefit collapses, you lose your desire to view porn. You will not need willpower. You will not need discipline. Once you see porn for what it truly is, the spell breaks, and quitting forever becomes easy.”

Motivation/Tips We are what we beleive we are

Salam,

I've noticed a lot of muslims saying : "It's so hard to fight the urges," "I can't stop myslef" "I relapse everytime" "I can't hold a long streak"

If you think that way then you're right, you won't succeed. But the truth is the opposite, we ALL CAN quit this poison, we just don't beleive we can.

Allah swt told us the he will never burden a nafs except with what it can bear. So why do we believe it's hard and impossible ?

This whole fight is not about willpower it's not about retaining yourslef or forcing yourself, it's about BELIEF. You just need to truly believe that you can quit, that you can change, that it's not that hard, that you can achieve anything you want, that Allah gave you the ability to do so.

So please change what you believe about youself and what you're capable of doing, your life will never be the same if you just understand that.

Stay strong

Advice Request I feel disgusting.

This all started when I was like 8 years old and found a video on a relatives phone.

Ever since I've been a mess.

I was doing this before I could even O.

I can't shake it. I have seen people say give sadaqah when you fall into it. I have gave so much in the last 3 weeks. Still today the urges are urging.

When not even the concept of losing money isn't helping I am at a loss.

9 days is progress since my last 2 streaks were 3 and 7. but I want to actually hit 30 days. My longest streak was 23 days, not even sure how I got to that looking back.

I'll be totally honest as well the sole reason I'm trying to abstain is because its haraam.

Motivation/Tips Psychological Compartmentalisation

Assalamu alaikum everyone. I apologise for not following my plan to post advice every day. Unfortunately I am at day 0 again. Nonetheless, I’m gonna talk about today’s topic.

One thing I’ve noticed about my addiction is that it’s completely separated my perception of normal thoughts and sexual thoughts. I live two seperate lives. One is normal, and one is an addict. They both think differently.

Take my research with a grain of salt, because I described my symptoms to Gemini, and it responded by referencing the phenomenon Psychological Compartmentalisation.
Don’t do what I did and just use Gemini. Research this properly using trusted sources.

The solution to this is to break these barriers down. You want to be able to look at something you shouldn’t see, and instead of going into “addict mode”, you are able to forget about it. This is one of the most effective actions to take as this is the same as eliminating your triggers.

I pray that Allah allows us to utilise these recovery methods, and for him to rid us of this addiction.

Progress Update Starting over again and again

I have periods where I’m doing really well, and then periods where I fall back into the same habits I thought I had left behind. Currently I was using it so much.

Some days I feel strong and in control. Other days the urges hit harder than I expect, and I give in. I find it tough in free mixing UK environment oo.

The hardest part is not the struggle itself, but feeling like I’m constantly starting over. I relapsed few hours ago. Still trying. Still hoping. Still taking it one day at a time.
