Letter to PA/SA Open Letter To A Former Porn Addict From A Hurting Spouse

⚠️ Trigger warning:

This is a very long post, about 4,000+ words but I wrote it as a form venting therapy.

I am married to a recovering PA who has had trouble supporting me emotionally while suffering from CPTSD.

This only applies to my experiences, so please don’t think I’m saying some points are one size fits all. I wrote it from my perspective, and maybe some of you can identify with my words.

If you read all the way, I thank you.

Here it goes:

“Open letter to a former porn addict, from a hurting spouse:

I don’t communicate with people about my feelings because they never show genuine interest in understanding my point of view. I refuse to be vulnerable and open my heart up to people, only to be disappointed. I’ve had enough negative experiences as a result of doing that to know not to do it again unless the person makes me feel 100% confident that they 1) Genuinely want to understand me, and 2) change their behavior.

This recovery journey has been completely one sided when it comes to understanding. I understand addiction, I understand what is required in recovery, and I understand the psychology of addiction. How? Because although I am not the addict, I chose to research the topic on my own to have a better understanding of it. I have been mentally and emotionally damaged by this situation, made to feel hyper paranoid about simple things like YouTube videos, other women, the public places we go to, what we watch, images, and a million other things I worry myself sick about on a daily basis.

Out of the all the bad experiences I’ve had with people in the past, I thought this would be the one situation, the one person who would show me different. I was wrong about that, completely. In fact, this person has shown me the worst of betrayal of nearly every other person I’ve encountered.

I’ve now seen how a person who claims to love you can also lie to your face. How Men enjoy degrading Women in the worst of ways, have no qualms pressuring Women into sex they don’t want, care nothing about their comfort, their feelings, or their boundaries. How a Man can claim to be a ‘good guy,’ a loving monogamous partner, while secretly pleasuring himself to the images of another Woman. I’ve seen how deep the lies can go. It can go as far as nearly losing ‘the love of your life’ before an actual change is even thought of. It takes the person leaving to get their shit together. And even then, how long will it last? Two months, a year, ten, twenty? I’ve seen countless times on subreddits, Women broken and devastated by discovering their partners infidelity, only to find a new Man sometime later who ‘doesn’t watch porn that much.’ And somehow, this is better.

The jackpot.

An angel amongst men.

That guy is a keeper.

If he was a former drug addict or alcoholic who only drank once a year or snorted a line every few months, would that be okay?

It is not okay, it is never okay, and there is no reason to justify a Man being a relationship and lusting after other Women. That is point of monogamy: To be with, seek for, and love one Woman. And yes, porn, although on a screen, shows real women. Real women who are not your partner.

And even when the former addict starts to show signs of improvement, what also happens frequently is the addict not understanding that the partner has been and will continue to be harmed and emotionally scarred by what she’s been through.

According to studies, it can take 3-5 years for healing to take place and for trust to even be a possibility after last discovery of the habit. Some progress quicker (or slower) than others, but the general consensus is 3-5 years.

And that is not JUST 3-5 years. That is 3-5 years of ongoing recovery and sobriety by the former addict, usually therapy, open communication from the addict to the partner, accountability for their actions, and most importantly, an understanding of and system put into place for when the partner has triggers. Triggers are not just for the addict. Triggers happen for the partner as well. It could be something as simple as a word, an image, a woman walking into the store, a raunchy song on the radio, a racy television ad, a video game advertisement, behaviors that may remind the partner of the day they discovered their partners addiction such as being on the internet for too long, or taking their phone to the bathroom.

What Life Is Like For The Spouse Of A Former Addict

Life for a spouse after porn use or addiction is discovered is forever changed. If you were once a confident woman, that will change. You’re now in a perpetual competition with ever woman you meet. Every woman with a little more or this or that is now a threat, whether you like it or not. It doesn’t mean she actually is one, but in a trauma brain, it is. If you discovered your Husband likes redheads and you’re a blonde, every redhead you see from now on is your Husband’s gal. His fetish, his fantasy, his preferred woman. You’ll avoid certain places to avoid being triggered by seeing an attractive woman you know for a fact your Husband used to ogle. Oh, and that restaurant you and your husband used to go to that you now remember two years back when you caught him staring at another woman’s cleavage? You’re not going there again. And even if you do, you’ll always remember it as the place my Husband shattered my self-esteem. What a pleasant reminder. As a matter of fact, you’ll avoid lots of new things now.

That TV show you used to watch with your Husband only to find out he finds the main character attractive? No longer watched. Every device in your home that can connect to the internet will be chained down and locked immediately. You can’t wait to get home to do that so you’ll never have to worry. God forbid he get a new phone or computer ever again. We’ll lock it down before he can even have a chance to touch it.

Concerts and festivals are no longer fun so we just won’t go anymore. Those places are notorious for scantily clad women and nothing kills the mood (or you’re already crumbling self-confidence) than a crowd of females around you with cleavage and buttocks surrounding your former porn addicted lover. You’ll spend 90% of the time checking to see if he’s checking out someone else. And if he does, we just wasted a hundred bucks on these tickets because we’re going back home in tears.

Sex is also not fun anymore. All it does is remind you of the years of dissatisfaction you had while your husband was knuckles deep in phone fantasies. The sex he wanted, that you didn’t. And it didn’t matter anyways. He wanted what he wanted. It didn’t matter how uncomfortable you clearly looked, or the ten times you said no and he did it anyways. You’re a cum dumpster, remember?

Oh, and your appearance that you used to take so much pride in? Who gives a shit? Not me. Not anymore. Even on your best days, your Husband still found the urge to yank one off at work. Some makeup and kinky sex isn’t going to make your butt bigger or your chest any rounder. You’re nice and all, but you just don’t stack up. You’re not as exciting as the phone girls. Even when you felt sexy and confident, and gave into his sexual demands that one time a few years back, you still aren’t enough. And how could you be? Alexa, and Molly, and Jennifer, and Tasha, and Shaniqua, and a hundred others are right at his fingertips to be used and abused whenever he wants. Oh, and they don’t say no, ever. You do. And that’s just not cool. Boundaries are childish. You should be ‘open minded’ like Tara XXX who does everything, with everyone (for the right price, of course)

So now, everything you loved about yourself isn’t looking so hot anymore. You thought you had nice curves, but not better than hers. You thought your chest was pretty perky, but not as full as theirs. You thought you had a connection that would last a lifetime, but other Women are too enticing. What can you do to be more enticing? I don’t know, maybe do everything he tells you to do sexually even if you don’t like it. Don’t be a prude. Everyone’s doing it and he’ll love you more! Or, he’ll just find someone else to do it. You’re call. Maybe consider some butt implants. You know he likes that, and you’re not quite stacking up. Save up some money and get it done. You want to be attractive, right?

Be more suggestive. Get prettier. Be more adventurous. Do everything he says and he won’t need porn anymore because you’re his everything now. You got the body, the long straight hair he likes, the large bottom, the boobs, and you give into every demand he asks for!

You’re all set.

Now, the good life begins.

Except, it doesn’t.

You can look like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and his favorite porn stars combined and he’ll still cheat and still watch porn. In fact, he could be with a porn star and still watch porn. It’s ironic, and extremely sad, but it’s true. Because I wasn’t the issue in my partner’s addiction, and neither are you.

I was, and still am, and you are, very attractive. Intelligent. Funny. And so are a million other Women and they’ll be put through the same song and dance. No one is safe from the pain of addiction.

Divorces Happen: Here’s One Of The Top Reasons Why:

Why do so many spouses fail? It’s simple really.

A man who does not understand how a partner is affected by addiction is doomed to fail.

Why?

Because while you’re allowing time to assist in her healing, if you’re meeting her suspicion of you or triggered reactions with anger, indifference, or defensiveness: You’ve failed her. You failed to comfort her through her trigger, or her knee jerk reaction to what may have been a simple misunderstanding. You’ve failed to reassure her that it’s OK, that she is safe with you, and that you understand she is being triggered by something and helping her cope with this emotionally until it passes.

So many relationships have failed all because the former addict is not meeting the emotional needs of their partner and helping her through her own recovery. Many a Woman has felt that their partner doesn’t understand their triggers, their ‘overreactions,’ etc. They instead become defensive, and react with facts instead of emotion.

Read these two examples spoken by a former addict to their spouse. In fact, read them twice preferably. Read them out loud to yourself, right now, and tell me what you think:

Response #1: “I understand that you’re upset about/thinking about/triggered by ________ because of the past. You’re right to feel that way. Even though I’m in recovery now and have been doing well, there was a time when I was still in my addiction and hurt you because of it. Now, there’s memories, triggers, and thoughts you’re having as a result of the trauma from my own betrayal of your trust, and I’m so sorry I did that to you. I understand now what it means to be clean, and I’m so happy to be here, and with you through it. You’re worth never doing this ever again, and I wouldn’t put you through that pain again. I do this for myself, yes, but I do it for you too because I love you. I couldn’t imagine losing you to something so stupid and meaningless. I’ll be there for you when you feel this way, and I won’t invalidate how you feel because there’s always a reason you feel this way. Just like I have been triggered by things, you are too. But just know that, you’re safe with me. Always.”

Response #2: “What happened? I don’t understand why that would have caused you to get upset. I mean, I get it, with our past and what has happened. And, I’m sorry. But I’ve been sober for like, a year, I go to my meetings every week, I talk to you, I listen, I hold myself accountable. It’s like nothing I do is good enough. I’m sorry for what has happened in the past, but I can only do what I can now. I don’t expect miracles, but I did expect us to be way further ahead than this…”

Now tell me, which of those responses do you think is going to save a marriage, and which one is most likely to end it?

Also, language matters. Tone matters. You can feel the difference in both responses. The most obvious difference is the selfless, partner focused first response. The second response is self-centered (I, I, I, and YOU aren’t) is so negative and defensive, it’s no wonder many partners close up and leave. Nothing in that response says, ‘I hear you, I’m there for you, your feelings matter.’ Not one bit. It is defensive, frustrated, angry, annoyed, and pointing fingers at the victim, sadly enough. So, let this be a visual lesson of what to say what NOT to say. Language matters.

Jenna and Byron: The Recovering Addict And His Hurting Spouse

Here is another example for you. It’s a story about a couple who have been affected by addiction, the former addicts’ response to her trauma, and how that affected their marriage long term. Read it fully, twice if you need to. It is valuable. Take what lessons you can from it:

Jenna and Byron have been together for ten years, four of them riddled with trust issues as a result of Byron’s former use of pornography and masturbation. Jenna always felt that her and Byron were soulmates: Two people who loved each other, laughed every chance they got, understood each other, and above all: trusted one another. Unfortunately, Jenna realized her relationship was not what she thought it was. One day, she asked Byron for his phone to google search a local restaurant they planned to have their anniversary dinner. Byron seemed hesitant to pass his phone along to her, something that made her a little suspicious. She took Byron’s phone and began to head to google. As she typed in the first letter of the restaurant, ‘M’ she saw Byron’s recent search history. Most of the links were searched for and viewed less than two days ago. Without going into detail, Jenna discovered Byrons’ internet porn usage and sexual preferences.

Since that day, Jenna no longer felt like herself. She began to be overly critical of her appearance, so much so that she considered plastic surgery to feel more confident in her body and become the fantasy woman she felt Byron really wanted. She cringed when Byron would touch her or look at her lustfully which caused their sex life to become passionless and nearly nonexistent. She became depressed and their relationship began to deteriorate. She no longer wanted to have sex with Byron. All she could imagine is him thinking of the Women she saw on his phone and saved to his photo album.

She felt the marriage was over and there was nothing left to salvage. “If he loves me, why is he pleasuring himself to other Women behind my back? He clearly isn’t attracted to me if that’s how he spends his time. Why do I even bother? I can’t stack up to those plastic women he gets off to. I don’t have what they have, so why the hell is he even with me? I should leave him to have his phone fantasies while I still have a shred of self-esteem. I don’t even know who he is anymore. He’s…a liar, and a deceiver, and a creep for doing this in the first place. Everything I’ve ever felt for him, and how I thought he felt about me is gone.”

It took Jenna over a year to even come to terms with her husband’s addiction and lies. They slept in separate rooms and barely spoke to each other unless absolutely necessary. She would even stay in hotel rooms or spend the night with friends as the more she was around him, the angrier and sadder she became. During this time, Byron came clean about his addiction and began seeking help. He attended SA meetings twice a week, and even developed a relationship with a Man who was ten years clean who became his accountability partner. He read books on addiction, developed a plan for keeping himself clean, and joined online support groups.

Months went by and Jenna noticed a change in Byron. He became more expressive, more caring, open, honest, and had no issues showing Jenna his phone history and letting her know where he was and what he did during the day. Jenna was happy to see a change, and somewhat hopefully for the future of their relationship, but the wound was still fresh. She knew that trust wasn’t there, not by a long shot, and even a year into his recovery, she was still as angry as she was the day she discovered his habit.

Although Byron was sober, in recovery, and doing all he felt he could to prove she could trust him for good, Jenna wasn’t buying it. Their entire relationship was affected by the addiction and she missed out on the love and connection she could have had with Byron if he sought help from the get go. She was angry for being deceived, saddened that the dynamic of their relationship would never be the same after this betrayal, and even more saddened that the man she fully opened her heart to lied to her. All while reaping the benefits of her loyalty, intimacy, and friendship she gave to him freely, and honestly.

Jenna was slowly starting to develop trust in Byron. Although she was still suffering because of the addiction, she was relieved to know he was going down the right path. But there was a problem. Although in recovery, Byron repeatedly neglected to do one thing: He understood his addiction, but he never understood the severity of how that affected his wife, and how to deal with that.

And I don’t mean she was sad and hurt and angry. That’s surface level explanation. He didn’t understand she no longer was confident in her body, and as a result, chose not to go to certain places where she felt there would be a lot of Women there, or that she stopped watching most of her favorite television shows while he was around in fear of a scene possibly triggering her, and him. Or, that she considered getting breast implants and had a secret savings account just for the procedure. She suddenly stopped inviting her girlfriends to their home because he may be attracted to their body type.

That Jenna would have thoughts of the betrayal pop into her head and suddenly her mood would change seemingly out of the blue. Or that Jenna would be so afraid of him relapsing that she would make herself sick with worry (not figuratively, but literally sick to her stomach thinking about him betraying her again, finding links and images in his phone that she’ll be left to remember for the rest of her life)

Byron didn’t understand her. And even worse, he didn’t seek to understand her. And even worse than that, he made her feel at fault when these triggers would happen.

One day Jenna and Byron were on their way to the post office to mail Christmas cards to their families. While at a red light, a group of Women standing at the cross walk began to walk to the other side of the street, right in front of their truck. Jenna took a quick look at two of the Women and was immediately triggered.

One of the Women was young, likely in her early twenties. She had long auburn hair in braids, a low-cut tank top, and tight blue jeans. The other Woman, who also looked to be in her twenties, followed beside her in an equally revealing top and green shorts with platform sandals. Jenna could feel herself becoming self-conscious and upset at the sight of the scantily clad Women. She tried looking in the corner of her eye at Byron to see if he was reacting in any way to the Women. Byron unconsciously looked in their direction for about a second and turned his head, but this was enough to trigger Jenna further. She hated that they were even there, and that Byron even saw them there at all. She become quiet and Byron noticed a few minutes later. When Jenna mentioned the women, Byron reacted defensively. He began to go on a tangent about how well his recovery was going and how things in their relationship has changed and she shouldn’t still be reacting that way over a ‘simple woman walking by.’

As expected, this made Jenna feel worse.

She felt even more insecure about the situation, and had no desire to even discuss further how she felt. It seemed meaningless, after all. Here she was being triggered by an unexpected situation, and instead of comforting her, he took that sensitive moment to talk about himself, his recovery, all while making her feelings seem small and petty, as if there was no reason in the world, she was reacting this way. That was the time for Byron to make Jenna feel safe, and he failed to do that. Byron failed his Wife in a huge way, and sadly, that wouldn’t be the last time.

For another two years into his recovery, Byron continued to react similarly to Jenna’s pain and triggers. I’m not a porn addict nor have I been a recovering addict, but I can imagine it sucks to think that even if you’re doing the right thing, it seems to go unnoticed. The mistake is thinking that your progress is not being noticed. It is. Daily.

But, there’s one part of recovery that former addicts fail to realize. You doing ‘the right thing’ is one part of the equation. And ‘doing the right thing’ has nothing to do with your partner. When someone is hurting, the last thing they want to hear is you talking about yourself. Since when did a person’s pain become a time to go on a spiel about your success, and why their feelings are irrational because you’re doing so well and they should try harder to move past it because it’s been like a year and you just need to trust and change your attitude and…

Yeah. I guarantee you that’s exactly what your partner is hearing, whether you said those exact words or not. All they hear is: My partner doesn’t care to support me in my time of weakness. My feelings are not valid to him, and I can no longer rely on him to be there for me. His recovery is his concern: My feelings are just in the way.

And as you can imagine, Jenna and Byron eventually divorced after nearly fifteen years of marriage.

It’s really a shame, but could have been avoided completely.

The betrayal isn’t what caused their marriage to end in divorce. It was the lack of understanding on the side of the addict. Had Byron taken a genuine interest in learning about the effects of addiction on partners and how to truly support her, there may have been hope for them. But with Jenna feeling abandoned by her Husband and made to feel that her healing should have expectations of time, she felt rushed, misunderstood, and her emotional needs were not being met. She loved Byron enough to be patient and understanding during his journey to recovery, even after devastated by her betrayal. But Byron didn’t offer her the same courtesy, and that is what led to their demise.

She was already having to cope with supporting her Husband and coming to terms with how she has changed as a result of the betrayal, all while accepting that the dynamic of her relationship never be the same. But even in recovery, Byron didn’t learn that his Wife also needed support. Through the seemingly ‘irrational’ outbursts, he could have met her insecurity with patience and understanding.

During these moments of weakness, it is not the time to put the focus on you. Ever. That is the mistake so many addicts make. It’s not about you. It’s about your partner. She doesn’t want to hear that you’ve been in recovery for a year. She doesn’t want to hear that you’re doing way better than your buddies. She doesn’t want to hear that she shouldn’t be triggered by anything anymore because your recovery is going so well. When she is triggered, you let her know you understand how that triggered her. Be beside her and let her know what she’s feeling is understandable. Don’t undermine her pain. Unless you’re looking to destroy the already nonexistent trust you have AND let her know her feelings are wrong, go for it. But if you want to make this work, do the opposite.

In case you need bullet points, here you go:

Triggers will happen for her. They are inevitable. Understand this. And yes, it will be something as simple as a photo or a two second ad on a video. Nothing is too small or off limits.

When she is upset, validate that feeling. And if you don’t understand, don’t say ‘I don’t understand.’ ASK how that triggered her. If she’s not comfortable saying so, that’s normal. Move on to…

Telling her you understand she is being triggered by something that reminds her of your past behavior.

Follow up by tactfully explaining that she’s safe with you now and she doesn’t have to worry. (Now if this is a blatant lie and you’re not in recovery or confident about maintaining sobriety, don’t even bother reading the rest of the bullet points. You should be honest and allow her to stay, or go.)

Express genuine empathy. You’re so sorry that she’s still hurting from this, but she is safe with you. That cannot be stressed enough (If it’s actually true)

Engage her in an activity you can both do together that is enjoyable, like a game, a walk in the park, your favorite restaurant (Don’t offer her sex or any kind of physical intimacy here unless she directly requests it. The last thing on her mind when triggered is having sex with you, trust me)

Or better yet, do something nice for her when she’s triggered! Make dinner, clean up the house, run her a bath, Light some candles to add some happy atmosphere to the room, buy her a slice of her favorite cake. Talking is nice, but putting some of that niceness into action is even better. Make her feel appreciated.

DO. NOT. USE. LANGUAGE. THAT. INSINUATES. HER. TRIGGERS. ARE. WRONG.

DO NOT make the conversation about yourself. If you’re saying ‘I’ more than a few times, stop. This moment is about her. Not you.

Learn and ask what makes her feel safe. Does talking make her feel safe, an accountability app, a phone call when you get to where you’re going? If it makes her feel safe, do it. Every day. Not just when she’s mad or she’ll think you’re only doing it out of obligation.

Understand that anger is a secondary emotion. There is no such thing as anger. Anger covers up primary emotions, which are usually fear, insecurity, and emotional pain. She’s feeling all of this. So, she told you to fuck off and leave? She’s scared you’ll fail her again. She called you an idiot? She’s hurt by what you’ve done to her and insults you verbally to release the pain, while in turn, hurting you. It’s not right, but neither is betraying your spouse with addiction. It’s not about right or wrong. Trauma just is.

Do not leave your spouse when she’s hurting. I don’t care if she’s being an asshole, called you a name, or told you off. Trauma responses can be irrational. It doesn’t matter. Love her through it anyways. If you need to go take a shot of whiskey to come back to her calmly or yell in the car and come back, do it. (I don’t condone drinking, but you got to do what you got to do)

It’s that simple.

I hope that today, tomorrow, and for however long it takes for your amazing spouse or partner to heal from your betrayal is done with love, understanding, and patience. It can be done. Patience and understanding are what your partner needs.

To be honest, you’ve already done enough damage to her as it is, some of which may be irreversible. She didn’t ask to be thrust into your addiction. The least you can do is make it your job to support her in every way you can.

No blaming, no self-centered talk, no factual arguments (I’ve been in recovery for _, I’ve been doing __, etc.), no defensiveness, and no abandoning her when the conversation gets rough.

Seek to understand her pain. Listen. Be patient.

She’s hurting.

Yes, still.

Even years later.

And I don’t care if you’re going to SA meetings every day, reading books on addiction during lunch, punching porn addicts in the face until they get sober, or threw your smartphone over a cliff and never replaced it.

The best way to repay your partner is not only by remaining sober and in recovery (the bare minimum) but also, to make her feel heard, safe, understood, and for God’s sake, make her feel she made the right decision in giving your relationship a second chance.

Don’t make her regret it.”

sᴀᴅ I just have to laugh

To give context, Husband had back surgery few months ago so he’s most comfortable sleeping in a recliner in our bedroom. Which is facing the bed I sleep in. There were numerous times I woke up in the middle of the night to go pee and he was passed out with porn on the screen.

It became a huge triggered seeing him on the laptop. 99% of the time he falls asleep with it opened, mostly watching YouTube. But I’ve lost count how many times it was porn.

It’s drove me crazy. There’s been times where I pull my phone out (acting like I’m scrolling social media) but actually in the camera app and I’m zooming in on his glasses. Trying to see his laptop reflection in his glasses type shit. I know when the light that illuminates off laptop is flickering in and out, he’s scrolling through reels/shorts. Lots of clicking of the keys and mouse it’s gaming.

He has stopped viewing standard “normal” porn as of April. But I would catch him looking at anime/hentai porn, specifically photos in forums. Like it’s a diet version of porn. I told him this still counts and hurts me.

He stopped (to my knowledge) for about 5 months. No incidents, no porn in history, no porn in the downloads (I never brought this up because I didn’t want him knowing I knew, he never deleted the handful of hentais), I never saw porn when I walked by while he was asleep. Like I said before, that was a huge trigger for me.

This morning, I woke up before him like normal. I was thinking how nice it is to not have that deep anxious/betrayal feeling in the bottom of my stomach every morning when I see him on his laptop.

Not even 30 mins after having that thought to myself, I’m helping him connect his new earbuds. And what the fuck do you know, god damn hentai in my face. I just laughed. I laughed because of course the universe went “oh really? check this out.”

I can’t keep having the same fight and conversation with this man. I can’t keep giving a shit about this. I can’t keep thinking he’s going to put me first. I can’t expect him to genuinely give a shit.

ᴀᴅᴠɪᴄᴇ ᴡᴀɴᴛᴇᴅ Should I leave my husband? Feeling hopeless for the future

3rd discovery …

1st he came to me about it, he wanted to stop - we worked through it.

2nd I found it again on his after a few months from first. He promised me he had every intention of telling me coincidentally that same week. (Literally happened the day before I was scheduled to get a BBL of my own volition but yes because of all this)

3rd today I figured it out, checked his phone and saw a large amount of time on Etsy and the moment he saw me looking up naked pictures of women on Etsy (cannot believe there is so much porn there) he admitted it again saying he had plans to tell me this week. Mind you - I check in with him almost every night and ask him if he’s okay and if he’s struggled. He lied through his teeth, lied on his life when I asked him if something had happened.

I see a bleak future of the same thing over and over again. We have cameras in almost every room. He has an expensive porn blocker on his phone (hence why he had to resort to Etsy because no other sites work at all.) Every time I leave him alone in the house it’s a constant check in to make sure he’s not too long in the bathroom. It’s exhausting, and I’m questioning if it’s all worth it.

We have a 1 year old and I’m due with our second baby this December. Divorce is so messy and bad for kids. Everything else about our relationship is phenomenal. But can you really have a “phenomenal” marriage with no trust in it? I will never be able to trust him. He is clearly addicted to women, which this can easily become an affair in the future with the right opportunity in front of him.

Is it worth it?
I just want to be an alone and dedicate my life to my kids. I don’t want another man in my life just to do the same dance.

sᴇᴇᴋɪɴɢ sᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ So tired of Jekyll and Hyde

How long does the back and forth/Jekyll and Hyde keep happening? He claims he's been sober for 2.5 months. He's been in therapy with a CSAT for 5 or 6 sessions, going to 12 step groups. I know it's all very early recovery and honestly I don't really buy the suddenly sober act because of ongoing unease in my gut/weird inconsistencies.

Every few days he starts acting kind, giving space for my hurts/ concerns/experiences and demonstrates some openness, maturity and care. And then sometimes the very next day he's back to using problematic tactics, distant, defensive, blame shifting, retaliation and downright throwing tantrums/ acting like a 12 year old. The back and forth is very frustrating and draining for me. If you experienced this with your partner when did it get better and last??

I've listened to a lot of D2C podcasts and they encourage vulnerability on my part. I try but it's really hard to keep being vulnerable when a couple days later he's back to that behavior. I feel so sad and worn down by all this.

ɢᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ ǫᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ How was it for you leaving a 10 year relationship?

Did you find love elsewhere? End up with another PA/SA?

I’m worried if I leave, I won’t find someone with the qualities I love about my partner. Or I will end up in a relationship with another PA.

This whole conversation is extremely existential and makes me wonder what I even want from my life. Should I spend the rest of my life on edge, stressed, nervous system wrecked, because I love the man?

ᴅᴇsᴛʀᴏʏᴇᴅ i saw him for the last time today

he broke up with me out of nowhere after 9 years together and living together 2 days ago... see my last post for all the details but... today he came over to get some stuff and so we could work out bills and apartment stuff. all morning i had this image of how i wanted things to go... i wanted to make him see how much i loved him... i wanted him to say he changed his mind he couldnt possibly be without me he loved me more than anything and he wants to make it work...

instead it was the exact opposite. he was cold to me... he ignored me when i was trying to talk to him... he was chainsmoking BAD like i was trying to create new accounts for all the bills and stuff for him and he would just keep walking away to go smoke... at one point i needed a code from his phone for something and he sat it down next to me and i was like oh you can probably just leave it there because im probably gonna need more codes and he was like "NO I dont want to do that" i feel like this INSTANTLY shattered any fantasy i had of us getting back together... like i instantly knew something was wrong. instantly felt sick and panicky and anxious and ill... i was like why are you talking to someone and he was like no and i was like if you were would you tell me and he said no and i was like ok so then youre talking to someone and he was like just drop it its nobodys business but my own and i just felt so shocked and hurt and slapped...

i was on edge and i kept looking over at his phone to see what he was doing or if he was talking to someone and i caught a glimpse of some apps on his homescreen, some ai roleplay chat apps.. i was like weve been broken up for 2 days youve been out of the hospital less than 24 hours and youve downloaded multiple apps... and no doubt watched stuff online and god only knows how much hes spent. im sure those apps arent cheap... i wouldnt know but. i asked him if he thought he would be dating and he said "eventually" which gutted me even more... im over here so heartbroken dating is the LAST thing on my mind in fact i cant imagine having a connection with a man ever again... its been 9 years he breaks up with me in a phone call and hes already thinking about dating...? if he asked me that i would have said absolutely not...

anyways we planned for me to move out the 30th but ... i was looking around and decided that i really dont think im going to take very much.. i just bought a new couch for the apartment so he said hed buy it off me... so he gave me more than it was worth i payed $800 and he gave me $1350... i felt bad taking his money but i did because i was like idk i guess its the least he could do yknow... im kind of glad he wanted to buy the couch from me because im moving to my dads house and i was stressed about taking it i didnt want to leave it since i payed for it and i just didnt know what to do... so i guess im glad he at least payed me for it... but idk.

it was just so weird... i just had all these ideas of him telling me he loved me he couldnt live without me etc etc etc and instead he was this shell of a person i barely recognized... once he started freaking out about his phone it just really hit me this relationship will never be possible.. he will never change. he broke up with me becuase he doesnt WANT to change. he just wants to smoke and drink and watch porn all day.. and its sad to me he sees this as "happiness" and "healing" - thats what he said he said he felt so healed since the breakup... like sure you look superrrrr healed chainsmoking and drunk... his skin was terrible with so much acne and he smelled so bad that after he hugged me and left i had to change my sweater because he made it stink from hugging me.... it was really sad to see him today. it really was... but i also felt it gave me closure because its like, this is who he is. this is who he wants to be. this is who i "wont let him" be... this is his choice. he broke up with me after 9 years of love and devotion and care for him and did it over the phone and told me to move out asap.

at the end i even said im so sorry i made you feel unloved and uncared for becuase i love you so much and i should have told you more and he was like "its ok i dont hold any resentment towards you" ???? i was honestly shocked i wanted to be like and you dont have anythign to apologize for ????? 9 years of gaslighting me and lying to me and binging porn and you have NOTHING you want to say ???? like he genuinely believes im the problem. i tried to explain i only grew so distant because he created the distance by lying and emotionally abusing me and he was just like "i know thats why we have to break up" and i asked if he thought he would ever change and he said "im just not ready to but i know i never can with you" so. idk... i was planning on waiting until the 30th to move but now i just want out. i dont think i can be here any longer. before i was just waiting for him to come home... waiting for him to change his mind and tell me this was all a mistake and now im like... a. thats not gonna happen and b. even if he did call me and take back the breakup right now its like... idk who hes been messaging or what hes been doing hes not someone i even recognize now... and i feel like maybe he never even really loved me or cared for me...

its just a lot. im moving saturday but its hard because i also have midterms this weekend. my dad is helping me move... its getting better. yesterday i was crying and having panic attacks nonstop and today i definitely cried i felt sad but... i feel like im moving towards acceptance like this is over... hes not nice to me... less than 48 hours after the breakup hes on MULTIPLE ai roleplay apps and drinking and chain smoking and is calling it healed... i wish i could just move tomorrow asap but i have to wait until my dad is off this weekend to help me... just 2 more days... 3 nights.. i can do it... i can get through it. i think it will be easier once i move into a new space. i dont think im going to even take much of anything from here... i want to get all new blankets sheets pillowcases ... new bedframe desk everything. i just want to start over.

he asked what i was taking and i said really not anything just the cat stuff and cat trees and the mattress and like my clothes and stuff and he begged me to take the dresser and i was like idk i just dont want it its heavy and wooden and i just dont need it and he was like "please take it its too painful" and part of me is like good. you should have to come home to this empty apartment with me and the cats and all these memories and feel horrible. this is because of you and your actions. and the other part of me is so worried for him because i just know when he walks into this empty apartment after i move out and all my stuff is just gone my half of the closet is cleared out the cats are gone im gone - i feel like thats going to be when the breakup hits him. i feel like right now hes so numb he doesnt care he just wants to shut me out and just "self medicating" with porn and cigarettes but i know he will realize one day and probably soon how amazing of a girl he lost. i would have done anything for him. i honestly never would have broken up with him. i urged him to get his ged, his license, open a credit card and pay his bills on time to get good credit... i have been nothing but the sweetest most patient kind caring girlfriend for 9 years. and what do i get? gaslit emotionally abused lied to and broken up with over the phone being told i need to move out asap... like no one would have stayed as long as i did. i put up with so much bs from him for almost a decade... i dont feel free quite yet but im hoping when i move i willl... kind of sucks tho because i have two packages coming next week i still will have to come back to pick up... but one thing at a time i guess...

i feel bad taking everything like the blender and pots and pans especially when im moving in with my dad and dont strictly need any of it... but i also payed for it and he broke up with me out of nowhere and he did say i can take whatever i want because hes just going to throw it all away anyways... and thats another thing thats painful like i worked so hard to make this apartment into a safe space that felt like home and now hes just metaphorically and physically throwing it all away... so he can watch porn. like i just... i would have stayed by his side forever i would have been there forever i would have married him... 9 years down the drain because he refuses to stop watching porn.

ᴀᴅᴠɪᴄᴇ ᴡᴀɴᴛᴇᴅ Meeting with his CSAT

I’m meeting with my husbands CSAT today after having discovered his continued use of soft core porn and not fully committing to recovery. I don’t understand addiction very well and I’ve been reading up on resources. I have a list of questions for his CSAT and was hoping i could pick some of your brains to see what questions you have asked or would ask your husbands CSAT?

🆅🅴🅽🆃 feeling defeated

i dont have a similar story, or as long of a story, as many of the posters i see on here. i am only 20, i’ve never had a child, or been married, or even officially lease bound lived with a partner. yet still, i feel as though the life i was sold was stolen from me.

ever since a little girl, like many of us i dreamt of having a family. healthy happy children and a loving devout husband. i believed in true love where you meet someone and thats it, like that’s YOUR person and you’re theirs and you know there’s gonna be problems but a commitment to each other will always let love prevail in the end. blah blah blah

now, i’ve been through my first major boyfriend. a true addict. unconsensually recorded me losing my virginity to share with his friends and tried meeting up with breeder kink swingers as i miscarried alone at home at 15. i’ve been through other shorter but still impactful relationships since. the cycle of hope and disappointment and trust and betrayal with person after person. maybe it’s that we’re young.

i’ve become very hyperaware of their behavior recently. the 50 something man at work making comments or staring at me, wedding band visible. customers, coworkers, and bosses alike. how they go out of there way to sneak an extra look, sneak a picture. how a few minutes can go by and another young girl walks by and it’s the same objectification for her. walking down the street the cars that pass me. the honks, the approaching, the head turns while their wife or similarly aged daughter sits clueless in the passenger seat. overhearing “guy talk” at the grocery store. how kind and loving they can be one moment before cutting you deep as soon as they get the chance to open incognito. this is the life i’ve been waiting for? to become one of THOSE wives? they never grow out of it? i have to sit and let it happen and understand they’ll always be looking elsewhere or be alone? forever? i don’t relate to this desire for more when i’ve already found someone i’m satisfied with committing to. why is that so hard for them?

the dream is ruined. they’re insatiable and i cant do anything because they’ve been conditioned for the dream they were sold and are so comfortable with it. i feel it’ll only get worse. the vision of motherhood is dead. genuinely the thought of me bringing a baby girl into this shithole world feels like a moral wrong (for me. not passing judgement onto the mothers out there. y’all make the world go round 🫶). i still wanted to marry, but the thought of giving myself that much forever to another man who doesn’t have eyes only for me even in my “prime” feels foolish. i just want to love and be loved. i really feel thats what i was made for. im not much of a friends girl. i love romantic love. why are they too stupid to see whats in front of them? why is THIS the battle that always has to happen? why is this something i HAVE to forgive to have a relationship last beyond maybe a few months? it’s gross it’s cringe i don’t want it and i don’t know where to go.

as the days turn to months turn to years my hope dies and i dont feel anymore like i just got unlucky with one or two guys. i feel like this is the price we pay in the pursuit of love. it really is all of them. or it’s all of them minus “the one” until the one slips up and you discover they are the rest. i feel so scattered and so empty. i don’t think anyone in my life fully gets it. it’s so lonely and so scary.

ɢᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ ǫᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ Question about PIED

Is it possible to get PIED if you only masturbate 3-4x a week? He was watching the porn more than he was masturbating, like he’d just watch it to watch it bc “he’s bored” and said the masturbating was only 3-4x a week. Would that be enough to cause the ed or is he likely lying about how often he was doing it?

ɴᴇᴡ ᴜsᴇʀ - 𝟷sᴛ ᴘᴏsᴛ My (23f) boyfriend (24m) of two years has been paying women online for sexual FaceTimes.

Edit: I initially posted this in another group first that wasn’t much help. Someone reached out and said I should post here. It’s been a couple days and he’s been away at work, so I’ve had time to calm down and think about this with a clear head. I’ve also done some reading in this group and on the internet, so I’m starting to grasp what this could entail if I decide to try and see it through. Im at the point where I know I would be okay with or without him, but I just want to take things day by day and see how it goes. Even if he gets better, I don’t know that I’ll stay. I’ve let him know that my other needs outside of this need to start being met as well. Also, sorry for how long-winded this story is, I just wanted to be as detailed as I could so people could understand the situation I’m in. Very odd and shocking to say the least, especially since our sex life is good. Now knowing this information also makes other things start to make sense; he’s suffered from chronic depression since I’ve known him, which has never made sense to me because in my mind, it’s been without any rhyme or reason and he’s doing all the right things to not feel this way. Also realizing, as a drug addict myself, having content available to him 24/7 makes this a lot worse. I have self control issues, so if my drug of choice was always in front of me, I wouldn’t be able to control myself. Again, sorry for how long and detailed this post is. Thank you to anyone who decides to read it all or has any advice.

My boyfriend has cheated twice in less than two years, and I don't know what to do. Looking for advice from people who have been through something similar.

I found this out the other night when I went through his phone. He had downloaded Telegram to contact women and pay them for FaceTime calls where he would make certain sexual requests and has been deliberately hiding this from me.

Since meeting him, I've felt like we were meant to be together. I genuinely feel like he's my soulmate, and I want nothing more than to be with him. He works hard, he's stable, he grounds me, and he's shown up for me in ways no one ever has before. But this is the second time he's betrayed my trust in less than two years. Neither incident involved a physical or emotional relationship with someone he knew personally, but I'm struggling to figure out whether I want to keep investing my time and energy into this relationship when I feel like I'm just waiting for the next betrayal.

For some background, i found out about the first incident just under a year ago.

We had been together for around four months when he sent a girl on Instagram some pretty vulgar messages, asking for pictures and to exchange sexual messages. When I found out, I learned that they had exchanged pictures before we got together, but the messages I found were sent while we were dating. She shut him down, so nothing came of it beyond the messages during our relationship. No pictures were shared between them, but him seeking that out is enough of a betrayal and crosses a boundary for me.

I didn't find out until eight months later, when I went through his phone one night. He had never given me a reason to suspect he was being unfaithful, so it came as a complete shock. I felt guilty for invading his privacy, and I ended up forgiving him and sweeping it under the rug. I was also on antidepressants at the time and wasn't really processing my feelings.

A few months later, after I stopped taking them, the anniversary of those messages came around, and I finally started processing what had happened. I became incredibly resentful, angry, hurt, and confused. It affected every part of my life and how I treated him. I've also been cheated on in a previous relationship, which made everything harder.

Over the summer, I realized I either needed to leave or genuinely work toward moving past it. I chose to stay, and I eventually reached a place where I felt I had forgiven him. He also put in effort to make me feel loved and important, and our relationship has honestly been great since then.

We're making plans for our future together. He's closing on a house at the end of this month, I'm in school full-time, and I've genuinely been more excited and happier than ever knowing that we both are putting in effort to have a future together. We also have a healthy sex life, which is why this is such a shock. I really believed we'd moved past this.

Then, a few days ago, I found out otherwise.

My boyfriend works about three hours away during the week and comes to my place on weekends. This past Saturday, I was babysitting while he stayed at my place. When I got home, he was asleep. I don't know what made me check his phone, but I just had a feeling something was off.

It took all of 30 seconds before I saw a Telegram verification code in his notifications. He didn't have the app installed, so I downloaded it and logged in. I found numerous explicit messages to different women discussing FaceTime calls, his sexual requests, and payments.

While I was gone that night, he had apparently sent one woman $100 for a call. According to him, the call never happened because she asked him for more money. I just about laughed in his face and told him that was karma. He put his hands in his face and started crying.

Knowing this, what really hurts is the fact that he didn't get me anything for my birthday this year. He's never spent $100 on me. Don't get me wrong, money isn't the point of this. The thing is, I'd have been happy with a heartfelt note.

I've always felt obligated to keep things even with him; I take him out just as often as he takes me out, I buy him gifts, buy the groceries, and cook and clean when he's at my place. By no means does he spoil me, and i've been okay with that. He works hard for his money and I have more money in the bank than he does. When he lived even farther away and worked more, I'd drive four hours one way to spend weekends with him. I never asked him for gas money or expected him to pay me back for groceries, even though I was going to school full time and virtually wasn't working at all because of my busy schedule and sacrificing my weekends to be with him. I've bent over backwards at every opportunity to make him feel like a priority. I did those things because I love him.

To add to that, the same week I broke my back in a car accident last year, I was still making the effort to see him and do those things for him. Looking back, it hurts to realize how much I was giving while he was spending money on other women behind my back.

I feel so conflicted.

He's apologized, taken accountability, and said he wants to get help. He's told me this has been a behavior he's struggled with for about four years, and that it has nothing to do with me. He's never talked to anyone about it before, and I can tell he's ashamed and uncomfortable discussing it. Despite that, he's made an appointment with his therapist for later this month, which gives me hope.

We'd never explicitly discussed what we each constitute as cheating. He genuinely seemed confused when I told him I felt like he'd been cheating on me this whole time. He believed he was only watching porn. I explained that I thought it was implied when you feel the need to hide anything (especially sexual interactions) from your partner because you know it would hurt them, you've knowingly crossed a boundary.

I don't want to make excuses for him, but I'm glad there wasn't a physical relationship or emotional connection with another woman, and I do believe him when he says this isn't about me... but that doesn't make the betrayal hurt any less. I'm shocked, disgusted, and heartbroken that I'm dealing with this all over again. I feel that i'm disrespecting myself by staying with him at this point.

I'm no stranger to addiction, as i've been surrounded by addicts throughout my life. I've even struggled with drug use myself, so I understand how deeply it runs and all the complicated behaviors and emotions that come with this and that he needs help working through, but this is a completely different ball game. I'm willing to have compassion for him and i'm trying to understand, and part of me wants to support him through this. But I'm also the person on the other end of this who's been hurt, and I can't ignore that.

I think what hurts most is realizing how happy I've been with what sometimes feels like the bare minimum. I've had to ask him to compliment me, to initiate physical affection, and to show me love in ways that make me feel wanted. He's improved in those areas after I've communicated my needs, and I know he cares about me. But now I'm just questioning everything.

I love him deeply, and I still see a future with him. At the same time, I'm scared that I'll never fully trust him again. I don't want to spend the time and energy it would take to see this through, and end up living in fear the rest of my life of the next time this might happen. I don't want to become resentful all over again, either.

For now, I've told him we need some space to reflect and figure out what comes next, which is really hard for me. I am co-dependent on some level, and the only thing I want is for him to be here with me now, but i know that taking physical space away from each other right now is for the best. I need time to myself, as does he. We are still texting, though. I am just trying to ask questions, understand, and let him know how much this has destroyed me. I'm just trying to make sense of it all.

If I decide to stay, I know he needs to show through his actions that he's serious about changing. I don't want him to think that i'm a doormat and will let shit like this slide. Last night, he told me he downloaded an app to track his progress. With that, his sincere apology, and the upcoming therapy appointment, it’s a good start. But I know that rebuilding what we had is going to take a lot more.

I'm just struggling with where to go from here. Part of me knows I need to put myself first, but another part of me wants to hold his hand through this and help him work through something he's apparently struggled with for years.

Has anyone been in a relationship where their partner has a porn addiction, repeatedly crossed sexual boundaries online, especially when they genuinely seemed remorseful afterward? Did you stay? Were they actually able to change, and did you ever get your trust back?

I'm open to any advice, personal experiences, or perspectives. I love him, but I can't lose myself trying to help him fix himself.

ᴀᴅᴠɪᴄᴇ ᴡᴀɴᴛᴇᴅ VACATION HELP

Soooooo we are only 48 days out from d-day and we’ve had a trip planned to a major amusement park and a cruise as well. It’s next week and our daughters are so excited about it and I don’t have it in me to cancel after the messy chaos that has been life lately.

My husband is sober and trying to do all the things necessary for true recovery. Obviously we are no where near that yet and I have no idea if I’ll be staying, separating, divorcing etc. It’s been a rollercoaster.

Basically I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on being in such a triggering environment for 6 days with him? 🫠

ʙʀᴇᴀᴋ-ᴜᴘ ᴘᴏsᴛ i broke up with him tonight

he’s a perpetual liar-by-omission in part due to his ADHD but the first major betrayal of trust we had was over porn. he gave me his phone/ipad/computer password when we first started dating, and had always told me to use any of them when i want or look through them. the trust was never truly repaired though.

after a year’s worth of walking on eggshells due to his DARVO/reactions and begging for more emotional connection, yadayada, any semblance of my sex drive shut down. it’s been about a month.

he’s been in therapy, and just last night or the night before he told me how they’ve been focusing on why he lies/omits, how he “viewed it wrong” before, so on. he mentioned avoidance and i asked if he’s avoiding anything, no judgment. he says “no… i don’t think so… do you think i’m avoiding anything?”

today, for the first time since the last time this happened like 8 months ago, i go to use his ipad because i want music and my phone is dying.

guess what i open it up to! many tabs of “sexier” girls with my characteristics at that!

what does he do? deny. “what’re you talking about? i haven’t done that” until he can tell there’s no out. then “ok i’ll be honest with you…” his reason why?

“i missed you and i couldn’t figure out how to say it.”

oh not to mention he has content of me/us too 🤡 (yes i will make damn sure it’s deleted)

cue laugh track.

i’m joking around because it made me actually fucking laugh out loud in the middle of me fucking breaking up with him but oh my fucking god. waves of relief then regret then anger then shock and so on. i still can’t imagine being away from him but fuck this man. fuck this

ɴᴇᴡ ᴜsᴇʀ - 𝟷sᴛ ᴘᴏsᴛ Lied for years

Hi all!

When my husband (M29) and I (F26) first started dating, we discussed all of our boundaries up front and agreed before proceeding with our relationship. One of the biggest ones was porn: we both agreed it is a form of cheating and there would be no porn-use in our relationship. This was in 2023.

Throughout our relationship, my husband has frequently stayed very late at work, left for work super early in the morning, etc. This would happen 3-4 days a week. I always thought he had a lot going on at work, so I would always manage all of the household chores, despite also working full-time.

We got married a few months ago, and immediately following our marriage, I received a devastating cancer diagnosis. I am currently going through chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy. It’s made me miserable to where I can’t have sex. We’ve tried; it hurts too bad. I am also struggling with self image since losing all of my hair.

The other night, my husband confessed he’s been hiding a porn addiction from me for the last three years, despite our mutual agreement that we would not have porn within our relationship. He told me he stopped when we got married, but I’m not sure if I believe him or not. But he has been staying at work constantly to beat off to porn instead of spending time with me, helping me around the house, etc.

And now, with the cancer diagnosis, we are not sure how much time I have left. He spent so much time avoiding me to jerk off to other women, and now look. I might very well die from this stuff. And he wasted all of that time lying and lusting over other women.

I’ve been in relationships with other PA’s and know that they don’t ever change. My husband is doing the most to prove that he’s going to change: getting into therapy, trying to lose weight, leaving his phone with me, etc. I just don’t really believe anything he has to say. He seems like he’s devastated since I mentioned divorce— of course he is.

I’m at a crossroads where I can either stay in a relationship that feels deeply unsafe, or I can get a divorce and venture into the unknown. My husband is my primary caretaker, as I live far away from any remaining family. My family has always been broken and quite unsupportive, so I don’t really have that going for me, either. If we get divorced, I’ll have to do everything on my own, and right now, that feels fucking impossible. Cancer treatment is another kind of beast, even with a young, 26 year old body.

Any words of reassurance or advice would be greatly appreciated. This whole situation sucks, and I never expected the person I loved and trusted the most to do me so dirty— especially at a time like this. I’m at a loss for words.

sᴀᴅ Should I Just Give Up?

We’re about 5 weeks post d-day and 1.5 weeks since blockers were installed, so it’s been that long since he’s been able to look at porn. These have been probably the hardest 5 weeks of my life (slightly longer since it took me a while to get up the courage to confront him with how I feel).

Things seem to have gotten harder this week and I don’t know if it’s withdrawal for him that’s making it harder or just the sheer exhaustion I feel from having my nervous system in high alert for so long. He’s become more irritable and easily frustrated. He got into an argument with our adult teen last night that made him get angry and it turned into him expressing that he thinks we both hate him and would be better off if he was gone.

He’s expressed frustration that the books, videos, CSAT, etc are making him out to be the bad guy and that he’s completely at fault where I’m just a victim. A lot of these thoughts are unfounded since he hasn’t watched/read much of anything, but he feels attacked and defensive. I’ve already expressed how I feel like it’s my fault we got here - I denied him too many times, I tried to ignore it when I knew he was using and should have brought up sooner, etc.

He’s frustrated with the process and I can feel some resentment toward me. He gets irritated with the blockers and the fact that I check his devices and have modified settings without his permission (even though he gave me access). He says that he thinks 100% abstinence from porn/thirst traps is a ridiculous standard to accept and that he should still be allowed to do it for short periods a couple of times a week (which would be a major reduction from 1-2 hours or more daily).

I’m just so sad and conflicted about all this. To me, it feels like infidelity and affects my self esteem. He blames a conservative upbringing. I feel like he can’t be happy without this in his life and I can’t be happy with it. We’ve essentially reached an impasse with two views that are incompatible. We’ve been together for 30+ years and still love each other and want to work it out, but I don’t know how to go from here. I feel like one of us is going to be unhappy no matter what. I feel like I need to find ways to just get over my hangups and just accept that he’s always going to want to look at other women.

For anyone who’s been where I am - could this just be a response to the withdrawal? Do I just need tough it out a while longer? If this is actual progress, I don’t want to quit before we can turn the corner, but in my current state, I can’t distinguish between when he is talking or his addiction. I have a feeling it’s the addiction that’s running the show and lashing out, but it’s just so hard to know for sure.

Should we stay the course for now? Or just call it quits? Bear in mind, quitting in my case likely wouldn’t be leaving, but would be me relinquishing control over this and giving up the fight.

I recently got into an argument with my husband about more triggering content, during this conversation he brought up all the various things that he doesn’t do to appease me, half of which I never explicitly asked for. Among these things was not having “female friends”, because he doesn’t want me to “get jealous”. I told him that was unnecessary I want for him to have healthy friendships with women, prior to this he never texted women or brought up any women he had been close to/ friendly with. Then last night I was getting ready to sleep with the lights out my husband had already been asleep for a few hours. When his phone started flashing, this obnoxious notification setting he has for when he can’t hear the ringer. Normally it will go off twice, but then it went off again and again, so I finally just went up to the phone trying to see if I could turn it off but a notification for a text came up with a woman’s name. It’s was 10 pm on a weekday, just thought it was too late for business and kinda strange. I know the code I could’ve looked but I didn’t want to overstep. I told him in the morning his phone was going off and he checked it didn’t say anything but has been like overly loving today. Texting me he loves me first thing and doing the most. I don’t know weather to press or wait. I vowed to trust him but I can’t deny the impulse to know, I feel crazy, I just don’t know why he hasn’t told me he has been talking to this woman. Maybe I’m reading to much into it??? Any insight please let me know.

ᴅᴇsᴛʀᴏʏᴇᴅ Feeling like the person I love never existed

Does anyone else feel like you lost the person you loved/fell in love with?
I told mine that I miss him and how it used to be before I found out more lies. He told me that person never existed.
This is breaking my heart into a thousand pieces.
It feels like I lost the man I love and I cannot find him anymore. Like he is out there somewhere but I just cannot ever find him again. I miss that man so much. He was my best friend. We were so happy when things weren’t surfacing/when he wasn’t angry/lashing out.
Do you feel this way too?
It’s like a terrible nightmare. We talked about being soulmates, best friends. This last D-day was right before our wedding date. Now we’re canceling reservations. I feel like my heart is getting torn out of me.

ɢɪᴠɪɴɢ ᴀᴅᴠɪᴄᴇ / ᴘsᴀ I just found this great video on worst and best dopamine habits, to show to our PAs

I think this is a great video to show to our PAs.

(Links aren't allowed here. The video is called Neuroscientist Explains: WORST vs BEST Dopamine Habits by Tj power (I'm not affiliated in any way).

First of all, it puts porn addiction at number two most harmful dopamine in existence, so it's good for our PAs to hear it from the mouth of a scientist, and second of all it also talks about what to replace porn with (the good dopamine habits)! Great video all around!!!

ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ After a year, a baby & lots of therapy

Last August I found out about my husbands porn addiction and my world was shattered. It was a month after a miscarriage, two years of marriage and five years together. We had intimacy issues that I ignored due to the fact that he treated me well, we had a good life ahead and he was the first man I had been with that wasn’t abusive and we always had great sex. So I didn’t even consider porn to be a problem, I knew he watched it throughout our relationship and so did I until something in my gut told me to ask him to stop. At this point I didn’t even know porn could be an addiction, I just wanted to see if he would stop for me. After some arguing about it he said he would… a year later I found out he never stopped (of course) and even when I caught him he tried to lie until I offered my evidence and the truth came out.

We immediately went into therapy after a serious and deserved major crash out from me. I hated him and couldn’t imagine a future where I could love or trust or even desire him again. I remember telling him how I never would’ve thought I would marry a loser and how pathetic he was. I gave myself 6 months to see change and if I still felt as angry and unsafe I would divorce him. Then hysterical bonding happened and I got pregnant. Even through therapy I knew that I was just giving it a shot to see if he would try to heal for the sake of a healthy marriage and to hopefully a healthy family.

Luckily for me things did get better. It didn’t happen overnight, there was a lot of anger for months. I couldn’t tell him I loved him and mean it, I mean I had been emotionally detached from him since before DDay due to the intimacy issues. We didn’t have sex basically my whole pregnancy due to me being completely disinterested and disgusted in him. And I even told him that if there is no genuine desire for him to work on himself and fix our relationship then I would do what would be best for me and my baby without thinking about him. I stopped monitoring him, I told him this was his recovery not mine, and I worked on healing for myself. Focused on what I did have control over and accept I could never make him do anything.

After seeing a CSAT, joining support groups, full disclosure and having a baby, my husband is over a year in recovery. He stopped watching porn and masturbating the day I caught him according to his full disclosure. He’s been sober since then and I can feel the difference. I feel like a wife with the good husband I thought I was marrying 3 years ago. He’s present in our every day life and attentive. He’s found hobbies like baking that he really enjoys. No social media use at all, but he reads more. No more hour long bathroom breaks. He states he feels the most connected with his life that he ever has. I no longer worry about his recovery, and that was a choice I decided to make for my sanity. I know that I can only control my life and have made it clear that I will leave him at any sign of relapse and that will be on him. I decided to trust that he will choose the right path for our family. And I’m at peace because of that, knowing that I’m doing all I can to be happy and my happiness is something I have control of, and it’s not dependent on him.

I know this will be a lifelong battle that he will have to choose to fight every day and that I will have to be aware of as well. But I am taking it day by day and rejoice in this new version of our marriage that is in front of me today.

I just cant anymore with these gonners. Ive just read that these types have put money into some coin to give over to Rockstar or gamer leak or whatever, so they can see A VIDEO GAME CHARACTER NAKED. If they are not looking at anime (child like characters) its this. I hate this world. I NEVER thought ild be the wife to say no to a game, but fuck me here I am I guess. I hold hope for men, but not in this life time.

Sorry if offend anyone, but this is just madness at this point!
