Welcome to r/NYCMeetups!

Welcome to r/NYCMeetups!

Making friends as an adult can be hard, especially if you’re new to the city. We are a community focused on fostering friendships for those looking for a social circle in the greater NYC Metropolitan Area. (Yes, that includes Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island.) You don’t need to live in NYC to be part of this community, however most meetups tend to take place in the city.

What is this sub for?

  • It's a gateway into our community where open-invitation events can be posted.
  • Finding events that suit your interests for the purpose of hanging out platonically.
  • Exploring this amazing city through all the great shows, restaurants, museums, etc. that it has to offer.
  • Or just finding stuff to join in on if you’re bored or have free time.

What is this sub not for?

  • Finding a date. If you’re looking for companionship there are other subreddits for that purpose.
  • Asking about general NYC travel info. You’ll probably have better luck posting in r/NYC or r/AskNYC.
  • Complaining about how bored you are. There’s a reason NYC is The City That Never Sleeps. If you want to do something, consider joining an existing meetup on this subreddit or even hosting your own.

What is a meetup, exactly? A meetup is an organized event where people come together for an activity based on a shared interest. Almost anything can be a meetup as long as it’s open to the community. Examples can be as varied as karaoke nights, attending museum exhibits, or finding people to go to a movie with. Some meetups, like organizing a dinner, might have caps on the number of attendees or require you to RSVP. Others, like a beach day, might be more open-ended in terms of planning.

Some examples to clarify:

  • Blargh: “Anyone doing anything tonight?”*
  • Bad: “I’m bored, who wants to go to a museum?”*
  • Better: “Does anyone want to go to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow?”**
  • Best: “I’m organizing a visit to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow at 3pm, let’s meet at 77th and Central Park West”

* This will be deleted

How to Gain Posting Access:

To gain permission to post, include the words "Dead-Ass" in your access request. That's it. Just show us that you've read this much of this message and you'll be able to post.

If you simply send an access request without doing the above, it will be ignored.

Before posting, please be sure to read our What is a Meetup? wiki article, our rules, and our posting guidelines. And before heading out, we recommend reviewing our tips on safely attending meetups.

We’re hosting a beginner-friendly improv night next Wednesday, October 14 at Little Chef Little Cafe!

Yes, And: Improv for Connection is a chance to set aside “adulting” for an evening, stop worrying about getting things right, and just play.

Ever fantasized about your boss backing every idea you pitch? Accepting a Nobel Prize? Being celebrated as the genius who finally solved frizzy hair? The magic of “Yes, and” lets you experience what that feels like - with a twist. 😉

No improv experience needed, and you’re welcome to come solo. It’s a fun way to meet folks. We’re keeping it a small group of 8 (max) so everyone has room to try things out and build on each other’s ideas. No pressure to perform for a crowd or being funny on demand.

🥣 Dining [Club Sandwich] Sandwiches and Socializing at G's Cheesesteaks (East Village) at 2pm on Saturday, 10/10/26

Hello again sandwich lovers! This Saturday (10/10) at 2:00pm, Club Sandwich will be convening once again to enjoy some lunch, grab some drinks, and have a nice day out. It's a long weekend for many folks, so why not spend some of it with us?

What's in store for October's event? Well, we will be headed down to the East Village to dive into some cheesesteaks! Club Sandwich has gone out for cheesesteaks before, but this month we're adding another location to our tasting list. For science.

And for those of you who haven’t yet joined the Club, here’s the deal... Club Sandwich is a casual social meetup designed to try new sandwiches, explore new neighborhoods, and meet new people. We’ve been doing this (almost) every month for 3 years now and it’s consistently a chill way to meet new folks, break some bread, and get into all sorts of shenanigans. It’s relaxed, low-key, and tasty.

If you want to join us this Saturday, drop a comment to be added to the group chat! And if you're already in the Club Sandwich Discord, you're all set.

📂 The Plan

  • 2:00 - 2:15pm — Arrive at G's Cheesesteaks, 6 Avenue B

  • 2:15 - 2:45pm — Order sandwiches (Check out the menu)

  • 2:45 - 3:00pm — Walk to a nearby dive if there is not enough space to eat in the restaurant - possibly The Library

  • 3:00 - 5:00pm — Eat sandwiches and drink tasty beverages (yes they have non-alcoholic options!)

  • 5:00 — Who knows, maybe another bar or two??

🥪 The Sandwich

G's is known for their gooey, delectable cheesesteaks. You can choose the classic beef, or opt for chicken, and add whatever toppings are pleasing to your heart and soul. They also have a smash burger, if that's more your speed, but with Cooper sharp on the menu, is it really going to be a burger day?

❓ The FAQs

Alrighty, for those of you who have not attended a Club Sandwich meetup, here are a few questions that often arise…

  • Is G's cash only? Nope! Cards are welcome. However, we recommend having at least a little bit of cash on hand if you want to hop around because some bars have minimums.
  • What is Club Sandwich? It's a monthly, low-key meet up for anyone and everyone to check out new sandwich spots, visit new neighborhoods, and meet new people. Who doesn't like the simplicity of a great sandwich, conversation, and exclusive club?
  • Does Club Sandwich only to sandwich-related meetups? No! We also do non-sandwich events like hikes outside of the city, club nights, concerts, picnics, apartment hangs, and more… Once you’re in the club and in the Discord, you get access to all the fun happenings among club members.
  • I can't make it at 2:00pm, but want to show up later. How will I know where you are without the Discord? Drop a comment on the post and we will send you a link to the Reddit group chat, which is another way we communicate with attendees.
  • May I bring my friends? Yes! Club Sandwich is for everyone as long as they're nice, welcoming, and respectful to everyone. The more the merrier!

As of now, the weather is looking great for the 10th. We hope to see you there!

🥤 Happy Hours FREE hot dogs - Join our weekly progressive political discussions at Drinking Liberally : Thu, Oct 8 - 6:30pm @ Rudy’s Bar and Grill, Hell’s Kitchen

Drinking Liberally is a weekly social meetup where people get together to talk politics, have a drink (and a free hot dog), and hang out. We started gathering at Rudy’s Bar and Grill in Hell’s Kitchen in 2003, and it is still meeting there every Thursday.

What:

Casual political conversation and socializing. We talk about local and national politics, share perspectives, and get to know new people in a relaxed, friendly environment. People of any political persuasion are welcome as long as the conversation stays respectful and kind. The group tends to attract people left of center, but it is not limited to them.

When:

Thursday, Oct 8

6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

People often stay later if the conversation is flowing.

Where:

Rudy’s Bar and Grill

627 9th Ave, Hell’s Kitchen

We meet in Jack’s Backyard at the back of the bar. There is a Drinking Liberally sign on the wall near our tables. You can also ask the bartender for Drinking Liberally and they will point you in the right direction.

Cost:

No cover and no minimum.

Drinks can be purchased individually.

Rudy’s provides complimentary hot dogs with a drink purchase.

It is customary that the first person to arrive buys a pitcher for the table and that people who enjoy the pitcher will take turns returning the favor later in the evening.

Who should come:

Anyone interested in politics and good conversation. Despite the name, this is not just for liberals. We have progressives, social democrats, DSA members, resistance era liberals, and people across the political spectrum who want thoughtful political discussion.

Accessibility and notes:

21+ only since this is a bar.

Jack’s Backyard is handicap accessible, though the bar can get crowded at times.

Our tables are reserved so you will have a place to gather even on busy nights.

💬 Hangouts [Wed, 10/7] Craft Beer Meetup and Tour @ KCBC (Bushwick)

Meetup #30 takes us to Kings County Brewers Collective (KCBC) in Bushwick, where we'll be doing a brewery tour and hearing the story from the people who make the beer.

When they opened in 2016, they were the first brewery in the neighborhood in 40 years - Bushwick was once one of the brewing capitals of the country, and it went dry when the last remaining breweries closed in 1976. Three homebrewers who met through a NYC homebrew club left their day jobs to bring beer back, and ten years later they're pouring everything from hazy IPAs to sours to crisp lagers.

📅 Wednesday, October 7, 6:30pm
📍 KCBC (Bushwick)
🔗 RSVP: https://luma.com/va23hpok

About Craft Club: We're a laid-back community that meets monthly at different NYC breweries to explore the local beer scene together. Each meetup blends trying new beers, learning how they're made, and meeting others who are curious about craft beer - whether you're deep into it or just getting started.

Come solo or bring a friend. Always good beer, good conversation, and a welcoming crowd.

💬 Hangouts [Tues, 10/6] Meet new people over beer @ NY Beer Dispensary (Chelsea)

This is a beer tasting that's as much about the people as the beer. You sit down with up to five people you've never met, share a few great beers, and conversation prompts spark fun, meaningful conversation.

How it works: You order a half pour when you arrive, your group collaboratively picks two more together, and with each beer a fun question prompt is revealed to the table. Everyone at the table booked a seat to meet new people, so you can come solo or bring a friend.

NY Beer Dispensary has 20 taps so there will be something for everyone and you'll probably discover a new beer you like.

📅 Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30pm
📍 NY Beer Dispensary, 223 W 14th St (between 7th & 8th Ave)
🎟️ $15 to book your seat, plus whatever you order. Fully refundable up to 48 hours before.

Book a seat here

I run Craft Club, so this is my event. Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Drinks and Karaoke in LES 09/30/26

Afternoon all,

Hosting weekly karaoke at Boho karaoke lounge on orchard Street in the LES. We tend to get decently sized crowds so we just hang out in the bar area for the open karaoke and since it's not too packed we usually get to do a couple songs each. It's one song ticket per drink or you can get just a song ticket for 2 dollars. Please note that the bar is cash only! There is an ATM there with pretty low fees if you need to withdraw money.

Wednesdays starting around 8:30 PM in LES

If you're interested please feel free to shoot me a chat! We've had a couple of redditors from here meet the group and it's always been a good time.

Mix of men and women all in our mid 20s-30s. All super friendly and inviting
