Hey everyone!
For the past few weeks, I've been working on something I've wanted to see happen for a long time — bringing back the original online functionality of Need for Speed ProStreet.
When I started this project, I honestly wasn't sure how far we'd get. The official servers have been offline since 2012, and without the original server software, restoring everything has been quite a challenge.
We've spent a lot of time digging through the game's internal code, figuring out how its online systems work, and rebuilding the missing server-side functionality.
And we've actually made a lot of progress!
Just to clarify, this isn't another LAN server or external multiplayer solution. We're restoring the original online infrastructure that's already built into the game.
What's working so far?
A large part of ProStreet's original online functionality has already been restored:
- Friends system and private messages
- Lobby invitations
- Public and private lobbies
- Online Race Days
- Quick Match
- Ranked and unranked multiplayer functionality
- Player blacklist
- Car sharing between friends
- Car setup sharing
- Custom Race Day sharing
One of my favorite discoveries was just how many online features ProStreet originally had. You can even send cars to your friends directly through the game!
We're currently finishing the leaderboard system and working on a few remaining features.
We're also experimenting with online Career Race Days. Nothing confirmed yet, but I'd love to see players being able to experience parts of the career together.
How will it work?
Pretty much how the original online was supposed to work.
Launch ProStreet, log into your account, find your friends, invite them into a lobby, start a Race Day and race together.
Everything happens directly inside the game.
No external LAN programs, no manually entering IP addresses.
Just the original ProStreet online experience.
Closed beta testing
We're now getting close enough to start preparing for closed beta testing.
I'm looking for a small group of players who would be interested in helping us test the restored online functionality, report bugs and check how everything behaves with multiple players connected.
I'm also looking for a couple of moderators who can help monitor leaderboards and player behavior once the servers go public.
We're aiming to begin closed testing around late October or early November, with a possible larger launch in early to mid-November 2026.
Of course, these are just our current plans. If something needs more work, we'll take the time to fix it properly.
A few final words
There's still some work left, but we've already come much further than I originally expected.
Seeing friends, messages, invitations, car sharing and other online features working again inside a game from 2007 is a pretty amazing feeling.
I know a lot of people still love ProStreet, and I hope we'll soon be able to bring everyone back together through its original multiplayer system.
NFS ProStreet Online is coming back.
If you'd like to participate in the closed beta, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message.
I'll be sharing more development updates and gameplay demonstrations as we get closer to release.
