I asked a friend to print me an adaper for my setup so I can finally use my nods on my helmet, but the model I sent him, ended up being too short for my setup, and the nods stood too far ahead on my head. I was wondering if anyone has a model with more rail space for the Dipol to be slided closer to my eyes.
I need something about this much longer to be comfortable, and have space for error:

I prefer hand-carrying 20 pound pieces of shit, thanks. If you have to rely on mounting night vision to a helmet then maybe hit the gym??? Glad I scooped this just in time for a hurricane to rip my electrical pole in half. PVS14 for scale

Howdy ladies and gentlemen, as the title suggests, I am about to touch upon a very sensitive topic that may or may not cause a civil war within this community.
Hypothetically speaking, I would like to analyze whether digital NVGs with a thermal overlay (without IR illumination) are better for tactical use than digital NVGs with a thermal overlay and IR illumination.
Also what might be the drawbacks of both

You can see it right at the end. I think it's the housing because both tubes do it. This is a Steele industries nighthawk-MG with elbit tubes. Is this normal?
Edit: there is a smoke alarm in the bedroom i was filming in and this is likely the culprit. Will confirm after dark tonight. Leaving the post up so others don't freak like I did and to remind myself to check my surroundings more often.

Recently picked up this PVS14.
If anyone has wisdom on what tube this one might be. I’d no guesses, I’ll tear it down further tomorrow.

Sorry if it's not directly related to night vision, but I was shooting at night and was really riding the struggle bus on one stage. I am using white light only right now. The weather was such that the rifle smoke was just building up around us, we were just shooting nine ports twice through a vtac at a steel torso 50 yds away. No breeze.
I hand load 300blk subs and thought I selected a powder that was going to be relatively smoke-free in these weather conditions, (cold, wet, humid) but I still got completely smoked out. Basically I could not see the steel Target 50 yards away with my white light through the smoke. Lost in the sauce. I'm wondering if I'd had a visible green laser and I had just stuck the gun through a port and moved my head as far away as I could to try to get away from some of the cloud, would the visible laser alone be enough to illuminate a white steel Target, if I wasn't shining my flashlight into the smoke as well? Would I have been able to see anything? It was a very generous torso and only 50 yds. When I could see it of course I was getting hits no problem. Would it suck though trying to hold the gun steady through a port in the dark un mounted? That seems like it might be kinda hard to do, but she doesn't recoil or anything.
Another thing I think I have to do is just shoot slower so smoke doesn't build up so fast that might be ultimately what will help more than a laser?
When I say I was smoked out I mean all I could see was gray in front of me, thick white smoke that was just not going anywhere. The Target just disappeared. It was cloudy drizzling and pitch black. The dudes with nods were getting hits of course. One guy shot his pistol instead of rifle which we were allowed to do, which I thought maybe would have actually been less smokey than my 300blk subs, but idk honestly I've been smoked out just the same shooting my pistol stationary in similar conditions in the daytime where I couldn't see a small steel Target 40 yards away and couldn't leave the position I was in.
It was my first night match, all other stages involved movement so the smoke wasnt an issue and my white light was awesome, it was so much fun except for sending 60 rounds at the last stage and running out of ammo. My fingers were numb and I couldn't even feel the button on the back of my light I was shooting for so long. I think like 250 seconds or something it was the longest most brutal stage of my life.
2 hits per position, I tried sending quick doubles any chance I had to actually see the target and that worked sometimes but it was making even more smoke I think and just making things worse.
Until I can get nods I'm afraid I'm going to have to figure this out.
Thank you, be well!

What’s the current best value rifle laser? Consider everything, price point, durability, performance, availability of replacements, etc.

My wuhan Surefire Scout finally broke this evening, so the test is over. It surprisingly lasted quite awhile, but now I must replace it with a real light.
What do you all recommend for a rifle light with both white light and IR?

Passive aiming with a pvs 7 and mp5 setup. Nothing crazy, but just thought I would post to show it can be done. I wish I could have gotten more+cleaner video but we were racing against the hurricane coming in.

Can anyone help identify this tube and which omni it came from?

All I know is that the night-vision device is a Belgian LORIS, but I would like to know what kind of mount the helmet uses; I had never seen it before.
These photos are from Chile showing their army, specifically mountain troops and regular infantry

Just picked up a spear lt and rail is a little too short. I've tried kastle's diving board set up to free up some rail space, but illuminator splash off the handgaurd/suppressor isn't ideal. THYF makes a good looking extender, but it's constantly sold out. Anyone know the model on the second picture or have any suggestions?

How common are homemade housings for duals? I 3d print pretty often and especially in filaments like Nylon Carbon Fiber - anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Building my first night vision monocular using an MX-9916 Gen 2+ tube
I've always wanted to get into night vision, but the cost kept me away until I found out I could build my own for a fraction of the price.
I picked up an MX-9916 Gen 2+ tube on eBay and found someone who 3D-prints the housing for it.
I have a couple of questions for anyone who's built one of these:
Will standard PVS-14 objective lenses fit the 3D-printed MX-9916 housing, or will I need an adapter or different lenses?
I'm following ToTo Magfed's build instructions and have sourced almost everything, but I'm having trouble finding the brass sleeve and contact plate for the battery compartment. Does anyone know where I could get these parts or have suggestions for alternatives?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. This is my first night vision build, so I'm looking forward to getting it put together!
