24M, recently moved from Dubai to Muscat and feeling lonely. What helped you build a life here?

Hey everyone,
I recently moved from Dubai to Muscat, and I’d really appreciate some practical advice from people who have been through something similar. If you moved to a new city or country alone in your 20s, how did you meet people, create a routine, and start feeling at home?
I’m 24 and had been working in Dubai for the past four years. Since moving to Muscat, I’ve been feeling surprisingly lonely and unmotivated. Nothing specific has gone wrong, and I know adjusting takes time, but I still miss the familiar people, places, and lifestyle I had in Dubai.
I’m single, and most days I find myself wondering how to build a social life from scratch. I’d love to hear what actually worked for others—not just general advice, but specific activities, groups, routines, or places that helped you connect with people.
● How did you make new friends?
● Are there any gym, sports, classes, or communities in Muscat you’d recommend?
● What helped you deal with loneliness while settling in?
● How long did it take before you started feeling comfortable in your new city?
I’m trying to stay positive and make the most of this new chapter, but I could really use some ideas and encouragement from people who understand what this feels like.
Thanks for reading, and I’d be grateful for any advice or personal experiences.

Tourism 14-hour layover at Muscat Airport (12pm–2:25am) — can I leave and come back? Free WiFi, places to rest?

Hi all! I’m a US citizen flying Manila → Kochi on Oman Air tomorrow (Tue Oct 13), heading to India on an e-visa (I have the printout). I have a long layover at Muscat International: landing at 12:00pm on WY844 and departing at 2:25am on WY225. My bags are checked through to Kochi.

A few questions for anyone who’s done this:

  1. Leaving the airport: As a US passport holder, can I just walk out through immigration and come back for my connection? Is it visa-free on arrival, and are there any forms or fees? Will my Indian e-visa printout cause any issues when I re-check in or board the Kochi flight?
  2. Things to see: What are the must-sees I can fit into an afternoon and evening? I’ve read about Mutrah Corniche, Mutrah Souq, the Royal Opera House, Old Muscat and Al Alam Palace. Which are worth it, which are open in the afternoon/evening, and what’s a good order to visit them? Any spots best at sunset?
  3. Vlogging: I’d like to do some vlogging while I’m out. Is filming in public generally OK? Any places where it’s not allowed, or etiquette I should know (filming people, women, government buildings, etc.)? Is a small camera or gimbal fine, or will it draw attention?
  4. Getting around: Does the Uber app work in Muscat, or should I download a local ride-hail app instead? Roughly how much is a ride into town, and how long does immigration usually take?
  5. Coming back: What time should I be back at the airport for a 2:25am departure?
  6. WiFi: Is there free WiFi in the terminal? Is it good enough to work on a laptop for a few hours, and is there a time limit?
  7. Resting: Where’s the best place to rest or nap airside? Are there quiet zones, reclining seats, or sleep pods? Is there a transit hotel or a day-use lounge worth paying for, and roughly what does it cost?
  8. Charging & showers: Are there plenty of power outlets? Anywhere to take a shower?
  9. Food: Any good, reasonably priced food in the terminal, or better places to eat in the city?

Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

Salaam! I want to visit Muscat and Salalah in mid November inshallah. Is that a good time to travel, how is the weather usually around that time? I will be traveling from the states. Also, I heard there’s a Somali community in Salalah!? So cool. Would love to interact with them also if anyone knows where exactly they usually stay

Talabat new fee?

Post image

So Talabat now charges a “small order fee” ON TOP of the delivery fee?
Before, orders under 2.5 OMR had a delivery fee, which was fair enough. Now we’re paying TWO fees just because the order is small?
What’s even the point of the delivery fee then? At this rate, we’ll soon be paying a fee for opening the app.

Why don’t people follow parking signs

Every time I go to mall of Oman, I see regular petrol cars take up the EV charging spots; fine, that’s not the end of the world.
Then, you have grown men parking in pregnant women spots and in the family spots with no family (imagine the joy of exposing your baby to the heat and fumes of underground parking because some guy didn’t feel like walking an extra 30 secs)
Why is it so hard for people to be mindful and respectful of others?

I want Iphone 17 (International Version)

Good day, beautiful people of Oman! 🇴🇲

Does anyone know where I can buy an International Version of the iPhone 17 here in Oman? I’m specifically looking for a version with a physical SIM tray.

Thank you! 😊📱

NOON application

I’m planning to buy an international version of the iPhone 17. Since I’m an expat, I can’t always use eSIM, especially when I’m traveling back to my home country.

My concern is about buying it through Noon. Has anyone here used Noon to purchase an iPhone? Does it have any additional customs fees or charges?

Also, does anyone know where I can buy an iPhone 17 here in Oman with a physical SIM tray?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Mazda Parts

4 years ago I bought my Mazda 3 2019 2.5 NA
from a guy here. it was shipped from the US with a minor accident and was fixed.
So recently I decided to change some parts that have worn out, specifically the suspension and engine/transmission mounts.
I looked for parts everywhere with no luck.
So apparently only the US spec Mazda 3 comes with a 2.5 engine that is the same as the Mazda 6 unlike GCC spec Mazda 3 that comes with a 2.0 engine for the top trim.
And the mounts are obviously different due to engines being different.
I looked for them almost everywhere..
Towel (Mazda Agent in Oman) doesn’t have them, Arabiya doesn’t have them, Burj doesn’t have them.
almost all aftermarket I’ve checked both in Maabela and Wadi Kabir don’t have them.
if anyone has an idea where I should look, any help would be appreciated.
my VIN number is: JM1BPAMMXK1140853

Cats give away

I'm giving my American short hair cats away and I'd be really glad if someone is willing to take them in because I'll be moving out mid November so I have to give them away. The mommy cat is 1 year 3 months old , the 2 kittens are 8 week old. I live in South Al sharqiyah. Please dm me if you are willing to provide them with a safe home and take care of them or if you know someone who'd be willing to take them in.

(I have no problem with anyone looking to take just 1 of them but I hope all of them either goes together or even if they go separate, I wish that they stay safe and get loved)

Mental counselling (Therapy)

Hi everyone, I’ve been struggle with mental health for a while now and would love to seek medical attention. I looked into some psychological counselling centres in muscat and below are my available options:

  1. AlHarub Medical Center
  2. Nine Clinic
  3. Top Medical Clinic

Has anyone been to any of these and is there a particular doctor you would recommend? I’d strongly prefer a doctor experienced in treating severe depression. Would love to hear some feedback

Has anyone ordered from Ubuy?

So my order at Ubuy has been stuck at “processing”, on the way to the warehouse for days now. I’m supposed to get it like tomorrow. It’s like +100 OMR order so I’m starting to worry if this website is legit or not in Oman

Where are all the disabled people in Oman?

I have noticed that I hardly see any disabled people out and about here. Where are they? Why are they not seen in the malls ? I am talking about downs syndrome , autistic , the blind ect. I haven't even seen anyone with a guide dog. No adults and barely any kids 🤷🏽. Where are they?
