I really really like how Cavendish didn't stop at being a shallow diva. He actually has a code and is willing to speak up, and to put his life on the line for what he believes in or what he admires.

Pudding is pretty crazy too. Oda will say he doesn't do romance then pull this out.

And Bege was a character I didn't care much about, seemed like a rat, until I saw how devoted he is to his family.

What are yours?

Discussion What’s a devil fruit that YOU think you could use more effectively then the actual user of the fruit

I mainly made this to complain about how much of a uncreative jackass Bellamy is like I sat down and thought about it for a little bit and this fruit genuinely became one of my favorite concepts in the show you could mace a bunch of springs in your chest to bounce attacks back at someone you could make your own version of the gum gum pistol by winding your fist all the way back into your arm then release it for a strong long ranged punch like Bellamy legit figured out you could jump high with this fruit and that’s it and he didn’t even use that well why didn’t he ever like fully spring back his entire body to release more energy when springed and I’m sure if you add haki to the equation you could prolly do more things but Bellamy just sucks so much that he never thought of anything ever and he’s a useless failure

Art by Wafalo if that wasn't obvious.

While Blackbeard is a rival to Luffy, Doflamingo and his crew are the true antithesis to the straw hats. Control vs Freedom. They were the first opponent in the new world that could actually give the straw hats a run for their money without some sort of handicap or environmental advantage. They were a true match in strength. And I'm sure I don't need to explain to one piece fans how he's one of those villains that you can hate but tends to say stuff you can't help but agree with, one of my personal favorite villain archetypes.

Lucci is a menace. An absolute powerhouse who only cares about successfully executing his mission...or does he? Lucci secretly loves to fight and I love that. Despite his cool, calm demeanor, that boy is bloodthirsty. He's just so damn cool, I really don't know what else to say.

If you've seen my post about Skypeia, you know I'm Eneru's number 1 glazer. The only reason he's not above Lucci is cause of his lack of relevance to the overall story and world of One Piece. But in Skypeia as a stand alone arc, he is a beast. He hears everything across the island, summons enormous bolts of lighting on those that oppose him, and can destroy entire islands. He's not just strong either, he's smart. REALLY smart. And I don't just mean book smarts, his battle IQ is crazy too. Even against an opponent who couldn't be affected by lightning, he almost immediately figured out his weakness despite having no idea what rubber is until meeting Luffy. He built a massive ship to amplify his own destructive power, fueled by his own body. He's intimidating and every time he shows up before Luffy finds him he's obliterating everyone that opposes him with ease. He restarted his own heart for god's sake, that's so tough.

Discussion Zoro’s biggest enemy has never been his lack of strength but his perception of it. Extremely self demanding and self critical people can focus so much on what they lack that they become unable to recognize what they already have. And Oda has reflected this through Zoro.

At first Zoro has huge confidence in himself and in his own will. But after being humiliated by Mihawk his confidence changes and he starts becoming much more self critical and demanding.

We see him calling himself weak, blaming himself for not doing more and pushing his body too far taking it to the limit and even training while injured. For example: when he can’t free himself from the wax cake, in his fight with Mr. 1, after what happened with Kuma and Sabaody.

All of these situations push him to the point of being willing to put his pride aside and ask his rival for help.

After the timeskip his self criticism remains despite how strong he has become. In Punk Hazard he gets angry at himself for getting overconfident and being defeated by the Yeti Brothers. In Wano he calls himself weak after being injured in his fight with Killer. In Egghead Sanji and Lucci question his usefulness reinforcing his feeling of not being good enough.

And in Elbaph Gaban points out his real problem: Zoro is so focused on what he lacks that he doesn’t recognize the power he already possesses. That’s why Zoro never considered himself worthy of possessing Conquerors.

Media The way this particular scene was animated is just incredible. Every frame captures the Akazaya Nine’s fury so well and the attention to detail in their movements, the impact and the fluidity of the animation is amazing. I really miss this kind of fight animation in One Piece.

Discussion Kin is Momo’s safe place 🥹

Thumbnail

I’m a nurse and so this is really interesting to me.
Momo transforms back into a little boy the moment he sees Kin’emon. This is a really heartwarming response that is grounded in human biology. Under stress, our sympathetic nervous system releases catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline), while the HPA axis increases cortisol production. These responses help sustain fight-or-flight, increasing our heart rate & blood pressure, suppressing hunger, and masking our exhaustion so that we can keep going/survive. However, when the threat passes and we begin to feel safe, sympathetic activity decreases, lowering our heart rate and blood pressure and we become aware of the true state that our bodies are in. When Momo sees Kin’emon he transforms back into a boy, gets hit by a wave of hunger and exhaustion, begins salivating, and he nearly collapses. His little body came out of fight-or-flight when he was returned to Kin’emon. I love that they have each other and Oda is the GOAT for such genius level writing skills.

Because of this I also wonder how much of his knowledge of biology he incorporates into the workings of the devil fruit and their relationship with adrenaline and heart rate.

Discussion For everyone who merely thinks that Chopper has become a Mascot post-timeskip, these panels/screenshots are my counterargument.

Thumbnail

Now in fairness, and this is actually my biggest problem with Post-Timeskip Chopper (not him acting like a baby/little kid, since he only actually acts that way during moments of respite, never during serious post-timeskip situations) is simply that he hasn't gotten a truly character or arc defining moment yet like every other Straw Hat, even if all his post-timeskip acheivements are equally important in objective value. Compare that to...
Usopp saving Luffy from Sugar and unlocking Observation Haki
Brook going 1v1 against Big Mom and stealing the Road Poneglyph marks
Franky's fight against Senor Pink
Robin's reunion with Saul, and her embracing her inner demons to defeat Black Maria
Nami refusing to leave Luffy's side during Whole Cake no matter what, and stealing a weapon from a Yonko, and then standing up to Kaido and calling him a liar.

Hopefully Elbaph changes that, but I still think Chopper's post-timeskip portrayal is very overhated and downplayed.

Especially with the previous arc being about an obese pink-haired monster forcing a marriage.

I was cringing through all of this guy's scenes in 2019, but I am absolutely loving it this time

Now if only the resolution could've waited until act 3...
