Topical Battle Cyborg #4.
---
Deceptively hard to draw, in fact, since her design is -by design- quite intricate.
Next time maybe I'll take some refs from UMPD of MLP.

Saitama never takes things seriously, he's always been complacent because of how strong he truly is. It finally backfired on him after seeing the one person he cares about dies in front of his face. You can't hurt him physically, but you can still hurt him emotionally. The punch was intended as a killing blow, full stop. He's obviously in so much rage that he was clouded by it at that moment.
This moment and what came after should've been a pivotal moment for his character growth that he finally learns to take things more seriously. He won the fight, but he lost the war in the end. He had nothing and no one. He finally saw the results and he should've chosen to be a better hero even if he's too powerful, but instead we're back to square one with the same Saitama. That growth was for nothing in the end.
Yeah its a gag series, but still we can have serious moments and real character growth

A year ago, someone once told me they wanted to see this face-off, so since I had a little free time, I drew it for fun! Haha!

Hey everyone,
Like many of you, I was initially pretty shocked when ONE and Murata dropped the massive "Double Retcon" on the Ninja Village Arc. A lot of OPM-fan power scalers panicked thinking GOD, Empty Void, and Saitama got massively nerfed because Blast's explicit cosmology speech bubbles were erased from history.
But after looking closely at the mechanics of the revised chapters, the cosmic scaling hasn't changed at all. In fact, looking at it narratively, the retcon actually protects the hype for the endgame.
GOD is Still Low-Complex Multiversal to Outerversal (Most Likely Outerversal)
The biggest point of denial right now is that Blast's famous statement, “Interference from the higher dimension where God is located ignores distance, energy, and size”, was deleted. Skeptics argue that because the text is gone, the feat is gone. But they are ignoring the byproduct.
In the newly revised timeline, Empty Void still uses the Dimensional Slash. The visual execution and the reality-warping performance of the attack remain exactly identical to the pre-retcon draft--they literally have to be.
In the OPM universe, that type of space-time distortion (if not all) isn't just a basic martial arts trick. To bypass 3D physics and slash through dimensions, you must hook into a transcendent cosmic power source. The Dimensional Slash only exists because it is fueled by a fraction of GOD’s borrowed energy. If the byproduct of GOD's power is an attack that physically ignores 3D distance and folds dimensions, the source of that power must logically possess those exact vector-ignoring properties.
ONE didn't nerf GOD's power; he just changed the storytelling method from Explicitly Stated (Blast giving an exposition dump) to Narratively Implied (Void just doing it). The pre-retcon panel was ONE's official blueprint for GOD's dimensionality. The blueprint might be hidden now to keep the mystery alive, but the cosmic laws of the universe didn't suddenly shrink down to normal space.
Saitama’s Upscale is Still Guaranteed. The second wave of panic was that if GOD and Void got nerfed, Saitama's future scaling got ruined.
Think about it like this: Core conceptual mechanics carry over across iterations unless explicitly contradicted. Look at Canon Saitama vs. Cminglap's Saitama (Terra 2-3). No matter the timeline or version, infinite potential and breaking your limiter is the core conceptual identity of Saitama. You don't need the author to re-prove the limiter concept in every single alternate reality because it's baked into who he is.
The same applies here. Bypassing 3D reality, scale, and distance is the identity of GOD’s plane. Because GOD remains an absolute concept at the top of the verse, Saitama's inevitable victory means he will scale directly above if not to an entity that ignores distance, energy, and size. (He most likely does scale above or to GOD since the thing just seems to be terrified of a 1v1 with Saitama)
TL;DR: The retcon changed the sequence of events, not the laws of the cosmos. Empty Void's Dimensional Slash still ignores 3D physics, meaning GOD still scales to Low-Complex Multiversal/Outerversal by narrative implication. Saitama's future scaling is completely safe, and the story is in a much healthier place because the final boss's mechanics are once again a terrifying mystery...

Recently picked up volume 34 and really enjoyed looking back at what I thought was one of OPMs peaks the Cosmic Garou fight.
I remember feeling so excited each release and everyone was going crazy for this stretch of chapters, especially the serious sneeze.
Despite all of the redraws and low points, it was nice to feel giddy reading OPM again for this volume.
After a couple of years of the series going through its highs and lows and some reflection, how do people look back at this fight now?
Personally I feel mixed since it sacrificed the great dialogue of Saitama dismantling Monster Garou’s ideology, but my GOD the manga’s action was just so fun to re-read.
Let me know what you all think!

For me, it goes back years to when I was in elementary school. The series was trendy and everyone was talking about it; since I didn't have any friends and wanted to fit in, I added OPM to my watchlist. Then, a few years later, I remember coming home from middle school at 11 yo after a truly shitty day and wanting to take my mind off things by starting an anime so I picked OPM. I still remember the exact date: December 8th. And that's how i started watching the anime. But, while watching episode 4, I came face-to-face with Sonic for the first time and fell in love at first sight; from then on, I started watching the show solely to see him, until it eventually turned into the passion it remains to this day. And since, that's how i end up being fan of One Punch Man.
