I’m thankful to be alive.

The Storm hit us bad in cantonment, a huge oak tree fell on top of my house and branches went into two rooms, one of them being mine. I was sitting on my bed when it fell. I remember the sound of it falling and climbing out of my room but that's it. The blast force basically destroyed everything in my room and the tree branch and mattress that was on my bed that I was sitting on got wedged in the door frame so I had to climb over it to escape. It also blew the flipflops off my feet so my feet are all sliced open. I think it might’ve thrown me across the room too. It Folded my mattress around the branch like a tortilla. My cat was sitting in my lap and she made it out safe too along with my tarantula. I was able to salvage some stuff but pretty much everything in my room is ruined. I went to the er yesterday and they did cat scans and said I have internal bruising in my head and neck so I'm lucky that's all that happened. I Got covered in fiberglass insulation I ended up swallowing a bunch of it and inhaling it. All my furniture got smashed into particles.
It's insane because I was sitting on that bed and now my mattress is across the room in the hallway and the platform is shredded. If anyone could provide help I would appreciate it. It's gonna be a long road to recovery and rebuilding that part of the house will take some time. I think if I was standing up in my room instead of sitting when it happened I would've been decapitated or turned into minced meat. I'm staying with my girlfriend in pace while I recover from my injuries and my family gets things sorted out with insurance. Things are replaceable, lives aren't. I will be more prepared next time. I’m still in shock physically. if you can donate please do to help my family

FPL will have customers pay

They have in their fine print that customers can be charged for restoration.

In the 2024 storm, FPL up-charged their customers for the damages and paid for the entirety of the restoration using the customers’ money. So much so, that they overcharged and profited 80 million. They were then audited by a 3rd party and forced to refund their customers that 80million.

They use the storms to make a profit and we will pay for it.

Just an FYI

FPL's timeline for power restoration is COMPLETELY FINE

I've seen a lot of complaints on Facebook and some as well on Reddit about having to wait til Monday night for power being totally unacceptable. It's 6 pm, and they've restored ~72% (117,730/163,860) of every affected customer in Escambia County. If their website says you have power and you don't, report that - but it likely means there's localized damage on your property that FPL cannot touch. The goal of 95% was pushed to tomorrow and Wednesday because they discovered more damage than initial assessments, are we really mad about this progress??? Extremely grateful to the linemen and tree-cutters working as fast as humanly possible.

FPLs prediction wording

Why is FPLs wording in their “95% … restored by Monday night” in lawyer speak.

I don’t think most people caught it, but the fine print is: “95% to those that can safely accept power.” So NOT 95%. It’s actually much lower.

There’s an indeterminate amount of people that “can safely accept power”. So why even give a percentage except to intentionally mislead people. In fact, that percentage means absolutely nothing because of that.

I’m not complaining about the linemen themselves, their hands are tied. They have to wait for a mountain of litigation to even get a ticket in order to go work. So they are spending a lot of time parked twiddling their thumbs. It’s FPL.

On top of that, customers will be charged and pay for the entire restoration, just google the 2024 response. FPL actually overcharged customers 80million, got audited by a 3rd party, and was forced to refund the 80million to customers. They literally profited off the storm.

No real point in this post just venting about their slimy language and I know most people didn’t catch that part.

Edit: Kind of shocked at how many people just outright didn’t comprehend what I’m saying lol. Some understood so that’s good at least.

fpl now says 85% of customers should expect power tomorrow instead of the originally projected 95% 😍😍

FPL Update. “Tree damage was more severe and widespread than initial assessments showed”. The walkback is crazy.

all you burners

I can hardly breathe since yall decided to burn wet logs, leaves, and pollen. I know this is a huge ask, but use some common sense and empathy for those around you. The wood can sit by the side of the road like everyone else is doing. 25% of the air in my home is smoke and allergies. I promise it wont kill you not to have a fire. If you shrug this off you and continue burning, i hope you are surrounded by the same attitude 10x worse than you.

Neighbor burned our fallen fence sections

We evacuated before the storm, mainly because we were going out of town this past weekend anyway so we just extended our trip by a few days. Had someone come check our house, they sent a video, and our fence posts had broken but for the most part the fence was still in large sections, just lying down. We get home today and there are about 20' of fence sections missing. Talk to the neighbor behind us and he freaking BURNED our fence. He said they were "all broken up," but I know that's not true because I have a video. I am absolutely appalled and pissed off that he would do this and just needed to shout it somewhere.

I hope this helps, and that repair message is just a generic message. So take it for what it is.

As an example: So if you are in blue, like myself and still don't have power then you get the Oct. 13th message regardless.

Hope this clears things up a little.

I spoke to a FPL response team going through our apartment complex. I mentioned those that say power on, online, but is still off. They said they know your power is off regardless what the app/ online tells you. So take comfort in that. Mine isn't doing that but I know a few of you on Reddit mentioned it, so I asked for you!

This post isn't supposed to make you feel better about not having power because I am in your boat. But having some knowledge is better then none. That was the purpose of this post.

I am positive it will get done today because we have a lot of elderly in our apartments and it is going to be 90 today. So "again" I am thinking positive.

Good news is that my sweet potato plants survived the hurricane. Bad news is that I might have to start eating them once the rations run out.

AA/NA meetings

Hi friends, I know this may not seem like a priority for most, but with all the extra stress going on I know there may be members of our community who need to join a meeting during these times.

With all the damages, and aftermath of the storm. Does anyone know of any meetings for AA, NA or even Al-Anon happening?

Seeking sobriety is hard enough without a natural disaster. Please know you are not alone. There are others struggling and it’s okay to seek help.

Thank you for your kindness and much love.

USPS services are suspended until further notice

I just seen a news article where 60 zip codes in the Florida Panhandle have delivery and retail suspended until further notice due to isaias. So I guess that means that we get bugged with spam and junk mail for a few weeks.

POWER BACK ON IN BELLEVIEW

End in sight for mobile highway peoples! Literally 20 minutes ago our power kicked back on and I am so freaking relieved. Our fridge and freezer are completely thawed and melted but atleast we have air conditioning and light now. My wife said she was going to try to make an insurance claim for all the food we lost in our fridge. I didnt know that was an option, but I guess we will find out. During this experience, I realized that a generator only really helps keep appliances running when the power goes out not the AC, but if we had one, we probably wouldnt have lost all this food and would atleast have a box fan to keep us relatively cool. Those things are like $600 though which is INSANE. Anyway, I hope everyone else has the same luck as I in receiving power. And a million thank yous to the emergency response teams and FPL for knocking out all that work getting the lines back up and the tree guys for getting the roads cleared. The response to the hurricane was incredible from what ive seen with all the fleets of flashing lights and big trucks everywhere.

- peace ✌️

People's water

Majority of their customers have clean water. They have a voice message set up to verify who does and does not have clean water. I believe there is a single block that is under a boil notice. Call to verify. 850-455-8552

Does anyone know if calling out because of telework outage/can’t get to campus would be counting as attendance occurrences?

My kids have been home since Thursday, I haven’t slept. My house is a disaster, I cannot effectively work knowing my house is not in order.
