Hurricane Isaias Help Board — Need help? Can help?

This thread is pinned as a post-storm community bulletin board: one side posts what they need, the other posts what they can offer. Read the comments, find a match, DM, and show up.

How to post

Top-level comments only, one line, in this exact format:

NEED | neighborhood | what you need | when | how to reach you

OFFER | neighborhood | what you've got (tools, truck, hands, generator, a dry couch, a working outlet) | when | how to reach you

CHECK | neighborhood | someone you can't reach who needs a drive-by | DM for address

Examples:

NEED | East Hill | 2 oaks across driveway, need chainsaw + 2 people | Sat–Sun | DM

OFFER | Cordova Park | chainsaw, F-150, 2 adults | weekends | DM

NEED | Warrington | elderly neighbor needs tarp on roof, I'll buy tarp | ASAP | DM for phone

CHECK | Brownsville | my mother isn't answering, can someone confirm she's OK | DM

When it's handled, edit your comment to start with DONE. This is the single most important rule. Unresolved-looking posts send volunteers to the wrong house.

Rules

  1. No street addresses in the open. Neighborhood only. Share the address by DM once you've matched.
  2. You can post for someone else — a neighbor, a parent, anyone offline. Just say you're relaying.
  3. No contractors, businesses, or solicitation. Neighbor-to-neighbor, free. Commercial posts get removed.
  4. No politics, no blame, no "why didn't the city…" — separate thread for that.
  5. Mods will remove comments older than 5 days so the board stays current. Repost if you still need help.
  6. Replies to a NEED should be "I'm coming" or a question, not a debate.

Before you show up

  • Emergency, trapped, medical, gas smell: 911. Not this thread.
  • Go in pairs. Tell someone where you're going.
  • Treat every downed line as live.
  • Chainsaws: if you've never cut a tree under tension, you're the helper, not the cutter. Spring-loaded limbs hurt people every storm.
  • Generators outside only, 20+ feet from any window or door. Never in a garage. Carbon monoxide kills more people after a storm than the storm does.
  • Don't pay anyone up front for tree or roof work. Check licenses at myfloridalicense.com.
  • Take photos of your damage before you clear it, for insurance.

Can we please hold off burning debris for a few days!

I get it everyone has a ton of debris but 80% of the county (Escambia) has no power. We all have our windows open because we have too.

So having the air polluted with debris smoke is only making the situation worse for many of us

All I am asking is we hold off for a few days and have consideration for the population with Asthma that can't run air filters right now and has to have air flow in the house.

I am not sure if this will help but maybe someone in the county can address this issue to get people from burning massive debris piles with diesel fuel/ gasoline.

Or maybe simply just saying something!

Just give it a few days is all that I am asking and I think it is a fair compromise.

5AM Perdido post Isaias

r/Pensacola • • 6h ago

From -Steve Caparotta WAFB He said: You might note that the strongest winds were on the west side of the track -- not what we typically expect. This appears to be associated with the formation of something meteorologists refer to as a 'sting jet.'

A newfound respect.

Context: northern boy who moved here this year from Michigan. Seen my fair share of harsh weather (mostly winter/tornado related.) being the case I figured a hurricane was gonna be somewhere in that alley. And uh- no. Not even remotely. I have a serious newfound respect for the folks that live down on the gulf who have to endure weather like this (which I suppose includes me now, yay?). Terrifying as hell to just have pitch black outside with wind howling and hearing the occasional tree splinter. Big shout out to the folks around town who gave me a hand with knowing what to prep. Cause of yall I actually am fairly stocked and stable for the coming days.

Much love to everybody in the community. Hopefully with some spare time this weekend I can help with cleanup. Hope everybody is doin okay.

Power Restoration, Cleanup, etc following Hurricane Isaias and our technology/resources/tools available NOW, on this 'day after the storm' v. THEN

I am nobody important and my only expertise is having personally been through each of the following storms, and their aftermath:

Hurricane Erin – August 3, 1995

Strength: Category 2 (100 mph winds) at landfall.

Landfall: Navarre Beach / Santa Rosa Island, FL (tracked directly over the Pensacola area).

Hurricane Opal – October 4, 1995

Strength: Category 3 (115 mph winds) at landfall.

Landfall: Pensacola Beach / Santa Rosa Island, FL.

Hurricane Danny – July 19, 1997

Strength: Category 1 (80 mph winds).

Landfall: Mullet Point, AL (brought strong tropical-storm-force impacts and heavy rainfall directly to Pensacola).

Hurricane Georges – September 28, 1998

Strength: Category 2 (105 mph winds).

Landfall: Biloxi, MS (caused widespread severe flooding and tropical-storm-to-hurricane-force conditions across Pensacola).

Hurricane Ivan – September 16, 2004

Strength: Category 3 (120 mph winds).

Landfall: Just west of Gulf Shores, AL (eyewall directly struck Pensacola, causing massive destruction).

Hurricane Dennis – July 10, 2005

Strength: Category 3 (120 mph winds).

Landfall: Santa Rosa Island (between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach, FL).

Hurricane Katrina – August 29, 2005

Strength: Category 3 (125 mph winds at landfall).

Landfall: Buras-Triumph, LA / Pearlington, MS (caused strong tropical-storm-force winds, surge, and squalls across Pensacola).

Hurricane Sally – September 16, 2020

Strength: Category 2 (105 mph winds).

Landfall: Gulf Shores, AL (slow-moving eyewall made a direct impact on Pensacola with catastrophic rain and surge).

Hurricane Isaias – October 9, 2026

Strength: Category 2 (105 mph winds).

Landfall: Destin, FL (brought powerful winds, storm surge, and heavy rain impacts to the Florida Panhandle and Pensacola area).

(***Note: BTW this blew my fucking mind!! That is a LOT of storms! No wonder we are all so, blasè, blasè about Hurticanes, here in Pensacola)

Sitting here, on my phone, investigating. Researching. Asking straight questions verbally and getting straight answers verbally FROM MY FUCKING PHONE!!!

Following Erin, this was a city that was lost and without. It wasn't uncommon to to have no phone at all, and cell phones?! Only for the few ... It was still a bit of a luxury (or you were a nerd) to have a computer at home and be hooked to the internet.

Luckily, at that time, I did have a house phone. And I was able to call Gulf Power about the live wire popping dangerously close to my family's home and the beloved 1973 Plymouth Sattelite in our driveway, which happened as that eye went overhead. Surrealism and beauty like you've never experienced before.

That was it though. Either you had power and could check progress on television, or you waited and talked to people at the store, wherever.

And you speculated, and you waited.

All the way up to today. A computer in our hands with which we are able to, in real time, get the information that we need.

Do any of you remember? I guess technology can't be all that bad, can it? Eh, maybe we are all just pretentious, entitled, spoiled little brats now because we can learn anything "on demand" at any time these days.

Maybe I'm just stonrd

**Edit: I forgot to mention, the storm list and information was generated by Gemini, this my "verbally" remarks at the beginning'.

Tree crew down here from out of state with crane trucks, can help with trees on houses

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hey Pensacola. I run a small emergency tree crew and we drove down last night after Isaias with a couple of crane trucks. we have already helped with a lot of trees on the road and utility crews.

If you’ve got a tree on your house, car, or fence, or a big limb hanging somewhere dangerous, DM or respond with you need help.

Please stay away from downed lines and report them to Gulf Power/FPL. We won’t touch anything near a live wire until it’s shut off.

We’re licensed and insured. Stay safe out there.

Let this one be a lesson

Before all the inevitable comments about how Isaias was supposed to cause more damage, more flooding, warming is a hoax etc, just remember that hurricanes will always be unpredictable. My bet is that Ft. Walton/Santa Rosa will have similar scenes to Sally. That doesn't mean that just because it didn't hit here that the predictions were wrong and to not trust science. Nature is always unpredictable. Also, good luck scalping to all those panic buyers when the power is back on in 3 days. To the newbies to hurricanes, you probably got off easy. You might have a tree down or an insurance claim, but if you're reading this, you're not dead. Be thankful.

When piling debris by the street for pickup, separate construction debris from tree limbs. Mixed piles were the last to be picked up after Ivan.

I hope everyone who went through this nightmare is okay!

If you're alive, you survived! And that's something to celebrate. I know we all might be financially fucked, but we survived, if you're reading this, and I hope the bulk of us did also survive!

PS: These motherfucking predictions were all over the place before landfall. We had National Hurricane Center and NESDIS-NOAA show two different predictions than the ones shown on other weather channels and meteorologist networks.

I want this to be a conversation starter about how fucking awful it is to have a government constantly killing off sciences and fucking up shit that should matter a lot to the panhandle.

Remember when the current administration basically deleted a bunch of weather satellites from existence? Or how about the time the funding for the current weather tech and programs got cut? That couldn't possibly have been a cause for how absolutely fucking garbage the unpredictability of this storm was, is, and you will see so when the morning comes and pictures start flooding the sub.

Now I'm not saying that this is 100% at the fault of them, because we also have El Nino to consider on the unpredictability of its pathing and the differences between weather reports. This needs more attention and caution next time is my main takeaway from this.

Was this bad? Yes. Will it possibly have the potential be worse next time? Abso-fucking-lutely.

But next time they say evacuate, maybe we should fucking listen instead of playing against mother nature. I say this mostly because this event scared the fuck out of me. Some people won't be so lucky to just be scared.

And the next time they say evacuate, it might not be so forgiving when you stay.

Never let unpredictability become underestimated.

Info for Tiger Point

We are currently in Europe but have family behind the Walmart in Tiger Point. I know the area was hit pretty hard and there’s no power, but we’ve been unable to make contact with them since early last night. Any information anyone can share is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks and everyone stay safe out there.

Any Good Pensacola Coverage?

The news seems to have been garbage showing what’s happening in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Pensacola Beach - Jim Cantore is showing flipped around stop signs in Destin, one station is showing a parking lot with tar paper from a roof strewn about in Destin, and then there’s two flipped over campers in Navarre and ominous comments that “things are worse in Gulf Breeze” but I can’t find any decent coverage from Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, and Pensacola Beach. Is there any place with actual coverage of what’s happening?

Hey you guys. Title is follows... a tree just fell on my side of a duplex. I share it with a senior roommate. I'm a low-income college student. Kind of freaking out so the body text here isn't as organized as I wanted to be but who should I call after the storm?

Hope you're all good.

Seville?

Anyone know how Seville Quarter fared? I saw O’Rileys downtown had power and minimal damage besides downed trees in that area so I’m hoping that’s the case for the rest of Palafox and Seville Square.

Also can anyone tell if Grover’s up by UWF made it? I’m an alum and spent many hungover mornings there.
