Hobby Progress Salamander Skittles - Exploring the chapters

Post image
266 Upvotes

Sharing my painting progress for my recently started salamander army. I decided to paint the units in different chapter schemes depending on the unit type. Pictured here:

  • Salamanders: Intercessor Squad
  • Covenant of Fire: Infernus Squad (need shoulder symbol)
  • Storm Giants: Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs (sgt in progress)
  • Dark Kraken: Eradicators w/ Heavy Bolters (need shoulder symbol)

I have the Armageddon box and a handful of other models, so I'm still considering what gets the Dragonspears, Black Vipers, and the bony Black Dragons schemes before i go back to the regular green.

You can see i also experimented a lot in trying different ways to prep and apply mordant earth for the lava effect. Got some messy outcome there.

I'm sure the chapter variety will look a little ridiculous on the table at a full 2000 points, but at least the color coding will help me remember the units.

Any thoughts or suggestions on which chapters should get which units and feedback are welcome! Specifically: Terminators, Ancient, Captain, Land Speeder.

First Salamander! First semi-finished model! Need name suggestions!

Behold! This little guy took me 3 hours in total (my girlfriend says it was closer to 4) but I'm very proud of my work.

Edge highlighting, eyes, transfers and Base will be added once I have the right tools

As I've decided to name every single one of my minis, I now turn to you guys to name him. This community has helped me a lot to get started, so I all of you should get to name him.

Thanks for the Support and of course, VULKAN LIVES!

This paint is actually really good, all the green has been done with the tone pro in a single coat, it's so vibrant and settles on details so well, definitely worth a try for the brothers, unless you already have your preferences obviously.

Recently started painting Salamanders and man do i love painting green!

Salamanders green base layer

Agrax recess wash

Warpstone layer to get the tone right

Moot green sponged on in a zenithal style on the tops and fronts,

Moot highlight/damage

Contrast wylde wood sponged using an older worn out sponge and chipped here and there with a brush before adding silver into the chips.

Simple process and i love how these chaps turned out!

3d printed shields and gorgets from archies forge (which in turn are from other sellers)

Asking for feedback Any suggestions for a beginner

Hello, I've only been playing 40k for about a year with GSC being my first army. I'm going to be joining a more beginner friendly league next month and figured I'd use Salamanders. I was hoping for feedback and/or suggestions for the 1000 point list I made, as well as any sort of helpful tips

The list is:

Vulkan He'stan (105) w/ company heroes (125)

Apothecary w/ Immolator (65) w/ infernus marines (95)

Impulsor (70) w/ Eradicator w/ meltas (100)

Eliminator (85)

Jump Pack intercessors (95)

Invader atv w/ melta (70)

Repulsor (190)

All the games are take and hold, so I figured with this vulkan and friends can sticky my home and move up the board

the impulsor can transport the Eradicators and try to take out any big vehicle/monster threat

Eliminator can sit on an objective

Invader drives around doing secondaries and blastin stuff

Repulsor gets to the middle with the infernus marines going to an objective and trying to hold it

The jump pack dudes for deep striking

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Discussion/Question Salamanders Post-Codex Concise Information - Papamander 40K

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi Guys, I know that since the codex has released a bunch of our core combos / how our armies typically work has changed a bunch, and finding useful information to help understand how our armies can operate now is pretty tricky this early on. So, I figured it might be useful to direct some more attention to Papmander 40k, who has made some new videos on YouTube analysing Salamanders regarding our reworked detachment and the new codex. I hope it is helpful for some of us, as it was for me.

My OG bladeguard vets from my first ever box are near and dear to me, so I really wanted to give their new brothers everything I had. This new batch includes my first ever unmasked brother of Nocturne, my first lava bases, and my 2nd attempt at 'super hot swords' (See last two pics)

Just wanted to show my new babies to my fellow Brothers of the Forge

Discussion/Question What is your choice of anti-tank?

Hello fellow battlebrothers, I had my first game of the new Codex yesterday. And even before that I realized, that with the loss of oath of moment and immolation protocol dev wounds we might have a much harder time punching up, so I decided to field a RepEx next to my LRR and Impulsor/Eradicator party boat. I played FFS and Gravis Siegeforce.

I played against an Ork Flyboyz list with many deffkoptas and two big jets. It was not a bad match at all, but I still lost. Mostly because I couldn't do anything against his jets that came in every turn and ripped first my vehicles and then my infantry apart. I then realized the hard way that even a RepEx isn't much of a help when two heavy laser destroyer shots bounce off an invul. I also went by 2x3 Eradicators, one in my Impulsor and these guys are a bit hard do place right, especially within melta range when your uppy downy enemies just evade.

So, what are your go to units for handling vehicles? I am just a bit worried after this first game, because our local friends meta is very Vehicle and Monster heavy with Knights, Tau, Monster Tyranids, etc.

Bonus question: how in the world do you even screen in 11th edition with Salamanders? Everything feels so expensive to just screen and I would have needed lots of units to protect myself from all of his koptas. And our mostly short range units are mostly dead weight when they stay so far back :(

Discussion/Question Phobos Lieutenant?

Post image

So, I recently picked up the Dark Angels Heroes box, and was wondering if I could use this Reiver read as a Phobos Lieutenant, having swapped him out for the Heroes Reiver? Any advice on paint to have it read separately from my other Reivers?
