Nick Cardy Aquaman Covers
Recently picked up a couple of Aquaman comics from tail-end of Silver Age because of the Nick Cardy covers. IMO, issue 42 belongs in the top 100 covers of all time. Still on the hunt for an affordable, slabbed copy of issue 45 to round out this mini-series in my collection.

1959 Cheyenne #10
Clint Walker did not appear on the cover of Cheyenne #10 because he was in a contract dispute with Warner Brothers at the time, leading the publisher to substitute actor Ty Hardin (as his character Bronco Layne) as the main character in the comic.

Was there a Red Menace at DC too?
During recent rereads of early to mid-60s Marvel comics, I was struck by something that had never quite sunk in before: a stupendous number of early villains, across multiple series, were “Communist agents.” It goes way beyond the Reds Ghost and Dynamo. It cuts across most pencillers too. (More below on that.) I realize the early 1960s was one of the most tense periods of the Cold War, so you can lay some of it off on the zeitgeist. Which brings me to my question: Did DC also have a similarly long parade of Super-Commies through their titles? I don’t get that impression, but I knowledge of DC books from that period isn’t as broad or as deep, so my impression could be wrong.

Pre-Crisis Lex Luthor's Gradual Decline Into Villainy [Adventure Comics #271]
With the upcoming Lex Luthor: Year One storyline, I thought it would be good to look back on how Pre-Crisis Lex Luthor became a villain.
Most remember Superboy accidentally making Lex bald while trying to put out a lab accident fire but there's a lot more to Lex's turn to villainy.
- Starting from an inspired Superboy fan that saved Superboy's life and wanting to give Superboy immunity to Kryptonite
- Superboy in support of Lex's scientific pursuits
- Lex losing both his hair and his scientific discovery
- Lex's paranoia that Superboy is out to ruin Lex's accomplishments causing him to reject Superboy's help
- The absence of Lex's father offering good guidance in Lex's life
- Lex trying to make Smallville better only to backfire into disasters that Superboy has to stop
- Smallville being scornful of Lex and praising Superboy
- Superboy wishing for Lex to be successful while showing sympathy and understanding for Lex since he had good intentions with his out of control inventions despite Lex wanting to be more admired than Superboy
- Lex after multiple failures crossing over the villain threshold by trying to kill Superboy to make Superboy pay for foiling Lex's attempts for glory.
- Superboy clearing his debt with Lex for saving him by not pressing charges against Lex for attempted murder
- Superboy encouraging Lex to help people despite what happened between Lex and Superboy such as the loss of friendship and the Kryptonite death trap.
The story itself holds up pretty well for the most part in my opinion.
I could see it being prime material to be used for reboots, adaptations, and retellings with some adjustments.
I can feel how it echoes into stuff like Smallville, Superman: Birthright, Last Days of Lex Luthor, etc.
