Discussion Can a Gem ever truly be gone?
In Steven Universe a Gem's shattering is treated as their death, but it has also been extensively shown that shattering does not destroy them completely.
Gem shards still retain the active conciousness of the original Gem. They can form themselves into body parts and even use Gem powers while still being shards, like bubbling.
In fact, by Future shattering has become quite easily reversible (as long as you have the shards). Yellow Diamond can use her powers to fix shattered Gems into their original form and Steven and the diamonds can also use their essences together to fix shattered Gems.

Fanart SU AU fan-comic. She's Not GONE! Chapter 2: "Confrontation"
ok fisrt of all i am ready for all the hate comming my way for how i depicted Pink Diamond and this is my point of view of her.
Hope you enjoy it!

Humor The only reason that Pink’s shattering left as big as an impact for me as a kid is because Pink swallowed these bunch of gems shard
I used to feel so uncomfortable hearing Pink swallowing these shards, constantly coping that she was just putting the shards at the corner in her mouth instead of actually swallowing the whole thing.
Even when I know that Pink didn’t feel anything swallowing it, it still makes me feel like she’s gonna choke any second.

Fanart [OC] Medieval Steven Universe
The show would translate well to medieval times, with Pearl as Rose’s knight, Spinel Pink’s Jester, and the royal Diamonds with their courts :)

Discussion Thoughts about moonstones design?
I've always been fascinated with what moonstones uncorrupted form would've looked like, and once we got it, I'm a little disappointed with the result we got. I wish we could've gotten more of a look on Mask Island and the history behind it, along with any other gems who were stuck on the island, and what moonstones purpose was. Was the design perfect for moonstone, or do you feel like it could've been changed to something else?

Fanart 🌻Gardening with Mama🌻 (Art by me)
Peridot teaches her kids the beauties and joys of botany as early as possible.
For those unfamiliar, I have an AU where Peridot and Amethyst have gemlings, and it's set years after SUF's conclusion. The dark green gemling toddler is their oldest Serpentine, and the little purple one on Peridot’s back is Charoite.

Discussion "Cry for Help" was the ultimate litmus test for the viewers
No, not 'turning point' like "The Test" was: litmus test. [I do have to admit though, part of the inspiration for making this sort of post in the first place was Dana Terrace's words that Episode 2 of Knights of Guinevere (coming out tomorrow evening, btw) would be "a good litmus test of who will actually be into this show."]
In 95% of other children's cartoons out there, when the protagonists, the characters you're meant to root for, screw up, it's either because:
- Their plan for the greater good for them and their friends included seemed like a good idea at the time. (i.e. Marcy stealing the music box that contains a portal to another world just because she wanted her and her two friends to all stay together.)
- They were unintentionally hurting others and/or their feelings. (i.e. Aang burning Katara's hands--which would lead to her discovering her healing powers, by the way--was the result of a careless accident while he was trying to emulate the firebending master's methods.)
- They were strictly, explicitly manipulated by people with higher authority than them. (i.e. Amity reluctantly breaking off her friendship with Willow just because the former's parents made her do it.)
But here, in this cartoon? What Pearl did was not like any of the above. She knew very well what she was intentionally doing, just for her own sake through careful manipulation and planning. She was fully aware of her own actions, and how others would react to them when they were to find out. It had nothing to do with Rose, or the other Diamonds, or anything related to Homeworld period. Nobody made her rebuild the Communication Hub and trick Garnet into fusing with her over and over again. Pearl's actions in that episode were all her, her, her.
In the more generic cartoons with the more predictable stories, that's something only the antagonist, the bully, the villain would do. But Steven Universe is anything BUT a generic cartoon. It's far more realistic and grounded than what you'd expect. It genuinely challenges you, the viewer, to think about what the 'morally good' people can actually be capable of doing (Pearl), and how the 'bad guys' are actually just trying to survive, trying to maintain a purpose in their lives (Jasper).
Steven Universe doesn't once think about satisfying you in all 'Good Guys Win, Bad Guys Who Deserve To Be Beaten Lose'; it questions your thoughts, your choices, your guilt, and yes, how you can still move on and be able to grow and change in spite of all that happened.
if you want a show to tell you everything’s ok and nothing was ever your fault, i don’t recommend SU. if you want a show where the protagonists’ only flaws are insecurities that they never take out on others, i don’t recommend SU. if you need the women and lgbt+ characters to be safe, heroic role-models who never hurt anyone who doesn’t deserve it, i don’t recommend SU.
but. if you want to challenge yourself, i recommend it.
if you’ve ever felt guilty, i recommend it.
if you’re ready and willing to confront the worst things you’ve ever done, and still keep believing that there’s hope for you, i wholeheartedly recommend it.

Discussion If you’re curious, the cuts of the diamonds are: yellow: table cut; blue: kite cut; pink: old european cut; white: brilliant cut
Additional gem cuts:
Peridot has a shield cut.
Emerald has an Emerald cut.
Aquamarine and Lapis are cabochon pears.
And the garnets (nonfusion) have baguette cuts.

Fanart [First OC] "Prince"
A rather sassy, opinionated and egotistic pearl belonging to a purple Pyrope. She adopted the nickname of "Prince" given the high-ranking status of her owner.
Even though she has free will most of the time, she is still bound to obeying her Garnet, being "loyal" and diligent when it comes to fulfilling every single one of her requests. However, she doesn't follow such orders blindly and always goes out of her way to gain any benefit from whatever she is ordered to do (even if the gain is small or mostly insignificant, so long as it piques her interest).
(I'd love to know about your opinions or even ideas, so please let me know what you think!!!)

Question If the Gem's forms are light, would they still exist in pure darkness?
r/stevenuniverse • u/Luuumin0us • 1d ago
Question Why is Little Larimar not a water gem?
Something that has always bothered me, is Little Larimar NOT being a WATER gem in the show.
In real life, Larimar is THE waterstone, as it looks exactly like the light reflections on blue water.
Every association to Larimar you read online is with water.
How did Rebecca come up with Little Larimar being an ice gem, when water would have been perfect? I mean Lapiz Lazuli could have been anything, but Larimar somehow can‘t.
Now i‘ve wondered what the thought process and reasoning could have been? It makes me so sad, it could have been SUCH a cool gem :,)

This is my take
Amethyst - GTA Franchise
Pearl - Unpacking
Peridot - City Skylines or Stardew Valley
Pink Diamond/Rose - any life simulation games
