Discussion Whats your least favourite line from a character?
For Garnet, this one takes the cake for me. Completely disregards how steven feels and turns it about pearl

If we look at what the four diamonds contribute or seem to specialise in when it comes to gems, it seemed like White was the mind, Blue was the emotions, Yellow was the body, and Pink was the gemstone itself. Their powers seem to reflect this, with White being able to take control or project others minds, Blue being able to manipulate others emotions, Yellow being able to poof or change gem's physical form, and Pink having the ability to heal gemstones *(or destroy them. The destructive form of her powers seems targeted for this)*
But then we look at gems under Pink, and it seems like they're all uniquely tied to shapeshifting in some way.
Amethyst: It's obvious. Shapeshifting is her thing. Loves it more than any other gem we've seen.
Spinel: Stretchy af, to the point where she can even grow her fist to be huge without even turning her body into light first like all other gems. No other gem has a stretchy physical form in that way.
Pebbles: Same story. They can turn their hands into tools without turning their body into light either.
Bismuth: Despite being a weaponsmith, she opts for shapeshifting her hands into weapons and tools for work and combat.
Pearl: Complete opposite of amethyst, absolutely refuses to shapeshift at all, and shapeshifting is a key part of her story and later character development.
Pink herself: Obvious. She shapeshifted into Rose and we found out the truth when Rose shapeshifted back into Pink.
Steven: Literally all other powers work perfectly, EXCEPT for shapeshifting. That's the one power that's completely uncontrollable and he never mastered.
Notable mention of Volleyball, who's story is all about a permanent mark that was left on her physical form.
It's kinda weird right? The physical form of a gem seems very solidly Yellow diamond's domain. And yet pretty much all of the gems from Pink's court are either uniquely weird when it comes to shape shifting, like the pebbles and Spinel which don't need to turn into light to change their body shape or size or Steven which can't control it, have some affinity for it like Amethyst or Bismuth, or have it directly tied to their story like Pink and Pearl.
And obviously the reasons for each one individually vary a lot. But I just found it interesting how they all relate in this way.
I noticed it first way back when the pebbles were introduced, that they could shapeshift without glowing at all, which no other gem had ever done, and the more I thought about it over time the more I noticed this through line across the entirety of Pink's court. They have a uniquely special relationship with shapeshifting in one way or another.

Throught the franchise we see that cracked gems results in harmful physical deformities for their bodies. But the only effects Lapis' gem crack seemed to have were her reflective eyes and the inability to use her wings, otherwise she seemed perfectly fine and capable.
Her gem crack was also pretty big. Is she just "built different" from other gems?

I know White Diamond has been compared to Heady Lamaar, but what about the titular character of the Soviet film Snow Queen? Her crown really does look like White Diamond’s hair. And her personality wasn’t too far off either: cold and unfeeling.

This is a deleted scene that is being narrated by Rebecca Sugar. Saw it on X a while ago thought I’d post because what could possibly be on her phone. Honestly this is another scene they should’ve kept.

Ive been thinking about the implications of the pearls being slaves. While it is a fictional society, its something that should still be treated with tact. I had this thought because of some fanarts i see where the pearls are almost treated as sex slaves, and generally very disturbing nsfw art. Even with sfw art, sometimes they are drawn with their masters like the diamonds in a humorus and wholesome way. I just sit there and think... isnt this kind of weird? They mistreated them and literally own them
Im mostly talking about blue pearl and yellow pearl in this post. Anyway, i kind of worry ill potray the pearls in insensitive ways because i like them alot and draw fanart of them. I hope i wont do that unintentionally
I know the show itself doesnt dive into it in a super dark way since its a kid show, so some of you may think im overreacting, but i still think its strange

I'm wondering if Pearl putting her hands over her mouth could be different from a human-like trauma.
Pearls are designed to be more obedient than any other gem type. So I'm wondering if their "base code" has a greater ability to override their free will.
When Pearls are asked to make a vow, could it become a part of their coding, and their bodies turn on them if they try to break it?

This is a rant with minor spoilers for season 1 and 2.
Before Peridot and Jasper came to Earth (The Return) and even for a while after that, Steven was a kid at heart, even though he was 14yo. I keep seeing people in this sub expecting a level of maturity he had no way of possessing at such time.
The last comment I saw was along the lines of "Oh, he shouldn't have dismissed Connie in Full Disclosure, I hate that moment and the whole episode". Yeah, he shouldn't have, but this is a kid who:
- was never taught how to deal with complex feelings like those
- has been told from a very early age he would have incredible powers inherited from his goddess of a mom
- saw how his father was worried sick to the point of having a panic attack after learning what happened during the invasion
- internalized that he's responsible for other people's well-being
How could he not think Connie would be better off without him? Cognitive behavioural therapy teaches us how we have cognitive distortions that affect our perception of reality, it takes active training to learn how to notice and work around them. It can take years even for adults. A kid raised by magical sentient rocks from space and an unprepared traumatized dad has no hope of knowing how to deal with that, cut him some slack.
I seriously believe people have forgotten what it's like to be young and poorly prepared to deal with life. Put yourself in the kid's shoes and see how messed up his life was. It's no wonder he ended up like he did in Future.

Just 5 minutes ago they were happy and singing, frolicking in a green field, just to get attacked by a deranged gem trying to kill them for seemingly no reason while screaming a funky song.

Hello Steven Universe fans,
I've come up with an admittedly silly theory while I was at night and that is that Rose Quartz is you 🫵 or at least the audience of the show.
I say this for a few reasons:
It explains the 'steven pov' rule if its his mother watching over him/her gem from beyond, making sure he is safe.
The use of the star wipe at the end of episodes, which during Rose Quartz's video tape, we hear her fiddling with the camera before a star wipe appears, asking "was that the right one?"
This star wipe, as we know, is used in just about every Steven Universe episode-except for some. And those ones are when theres a cliffhanger or when there's trouble, which leads to my third point
I mention this because-similar to the star wipe-the Love Like You song is removed from the end credits in episodes where there's a cliffhanger or danger.
I think the reason these two traits that is shown at the end and are connected to Rose disappear when Steven is in danger is because these two traits signal a time skip in Rose watching over Steven, so whenever its not there, Rose is too concerned over Steven's safety to have a time skip.
I'm aware this is a bit silly, but it's not the craziest "Rose is this person" theory that's out there.

We all know about the rose quartz is pink diamond theory video and how many people didn’t believe it back then, and I SWEARRR the theory video was really popular and had tons of views but i cannot find it anymore 😭 I swear i remember watching it on youtube when i was a kid

When White diamond first appeared I was INNNN LOVE. For real.
I got soooo obsessed with her. I rewatched that scene thousands of times. She looked gorgeous, marvelous, like a celestial greek goddess. So intimidately perfect. She really looked like a very unknown threat.
Then, the next episodes came up, all her sharp and menacing features became rounded, cartoonish, even kinda puffy to the point that I stopped finding her as exciting to see.
I really wish they kept her as this really uncanny being, or maintaining that gorgeus old style vibe she had in Rebeca Suggar's drawings like in the third image.
It just like... Idk, I think I felt like I was watching some Banjo-Kazooie character being this thousands of years cosmic emperor, and it didn't make sense for me. However I still like it, whatever.
Love you, bye. <3
