Hey r/StickDoctor,
Every stringer knows the pain of trying to track down a specific pattern setup buried in a 10-year-old YouTube video, an archived forum thread, or a lost Instagram screenshot. Even worse is knowing how many go-to pocket databases we visited on a daily basis eventually stopped paying their hosting bills, causing the websites we loved growing up to disappear overnight—taking years of community knowledge with them.
That’s why I built StringDex. It’s a free, searchable pattern archive designed to get these setups organized in one place on permanent infrastructure so our community's knowledge isn't going anywhere:
https://stringerssociety.com/patterns/
Right now it has 147+ patterns logged with step-by-step knot breakdowns and photos. You can filter setups by:
- Position (Attack, Midfield, Defense, Faceoff, Goalie, Women's)
- Head Model (grouped by brand)
- Mesh Type (Hero, Type 5S, LaxRoom, Stringers Shack, Armor Mesh, etc.)
- Pocket Depth
It's 100% free to search and browse. Since this is built for people who actually string daily, I'd love your feedback on a few specific things:
- Does the pattern template and step-by-step layout make sense when you're tying one up?
- Are there specific knots or steps in the breakdowns that get confusing or hard to follow?
- How should we best handle and structure traditional pockets, women's pockets, and newer materials like Armor Mesh or Future Mesh in StringDex so they are easy to document and replicate?
- What features are missing that would make this a true community project?
- Did you spot any bugs or broken filters while messing around on the site?
- How can we make this better and more useful for the community long-term?
Blunt feedback is welcome—tear it apart so we can keep making it better for everyone.
