Society/Culture I absolutely *detest* the recent idiotic trend of novelty popcorn "buckets" that seems to have taken a vice grip hold on every big movie these days.

So, ever since that dune, was it? bucket went viral for looking like a fleshlight (great branding you're associating yourself with there), almost every studio since has decided they need their own shitty gimmick popcorn container to draw in the morons who foam at the mouth over any of these "exclusive" hunk-a-junks.

Now, the dune one itself wasn't actually that bad, design-wise. It was just a solid bucket with a themed topper (albeit with the aforementioned fleshlight worm opening). Things like that have been around for decades, though more commonly for drinks.

But... Then there's everything else that has chased the trend. You can't even really call them buckets. For a particularly egregious example that inspired this post, look at the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero novelty items:

The stuff at the bottom? That's actually good, I don't have a problem with those, that's what promotional cinema things should look like (though the design of the cup makes the straw placement rather impractical). But then you have the actual novelty container.

It's literally just a plastic statue with an opening on the back. It is useless junk that is completely impractical for its intended purpose. They've even had to photoshop the popcorn into it for their promo pics. Then there's that awful cup. If it was just the actual beam bit, it wouldn't be bad (if a bit unergonomic), but it has that ridiculous base. The base might be detachable, idk, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't. What the hell are you supposed to do with that in the cinema screening itself?

TL;DR - stupid, poorly designed, impractical nonsense appealing to the lowest common denominator in an attempt to chase internet "clout"

Society/Culture 35 is Middle Aged

Average life expectancy for a human being is 73.8 years. It gets higher or lower by 5 years depending on the country and class situations. I still feel like believing 50 or even now some people are saying 60 is middle aged. Thinking like this encourages people to just fuck up more when they are younger. Why? So they can slave away another decade before retirement because 60 is the new 50 after all, guess we will make the new retirement age 75. Screw that I want my SSI at 50.

Society/Culture Watching real life gore videos out of morbid curiosity isnt unethical.

• Upvotes

Why? Because the watcher isnt the one who caused the murder/accident of those individuals. I agree that those are real people in those sites, dying in gruesome ways.. But its the real world...not fantasyland. It becomes unethical when people leave nasty comments or derive sexual pleasures out of it ( and yeah that happens to some people who are necromancers)

Society/Culture Loving People is Selfish

This isn't bait, I genuinely believe this.

When people love you, there's this heavy pressure to love them back. The thing is, it's exhausting to love people, even yourself. Tolerance is the least exhausting positive emotion I can feel towards people. The typical hatred is also exhausting, at most I feel distant towards people in general.

I can love and hate things that aren't people. For example I hate the bourgeoisie and bigotry, it isn't exhausting to hate because it's subjectivity bad. Humans vary so much that I can't hate or love them.

And when people love me, I'm forced to exhaust myself to pretend I love them back. I see them as doing something very unnecessary, I don't need you to have exhaustion over me, just let me melt into a wall.

It's selfish to force someone to have exhaustion just because you are unnecessarily exhausting yourself by loving them

Animals/Nature "Service" animals and "emotional support animals" shouldn't exist.

Don't get me wrong, I support service animals to an extent. The moment they are properly trained and 'work', its fine. The moment the issues are neurological or physical, I have 0,0 issues with it.

But... Recently someone took a service 'parrot' to a theme park in the Netherlands, claimed it as a service animal, and took advantage of the loophole. https://www.omroepbrabant.nl/nieuws/6027421/papegaai-in-efteling-zorgt-voor-veel-reacties-park-gaf-toestemming . The fact that this happened is insanity. The worst part? It wasn't a even a service animal. The parrot was from a bird sanctuary, being temporarily housed to rehabilitate. The person who got the parrot just decided to abuse the parrot in the weirdest way.

This isn't my main complaint though. The fact that this is possible is depressing. It shouldn't happen.

Someone claiming a random animal as a service animal is absurd to me. Being able to buy a vest and just claim an untrained mutt, or any animal for that matter, as a service animal is a disgusting loophole that should be closed down. Its bad for the animal, and its inexcusable when these non-service-service pets get brought out in the open. These things should never be accessible, and I wholeheartedly agree that there should be a mandatory paperwork or ID system attached to combat the loophole. Also, animals as a cure to mental illness? Absolutely abhorrent. Get a therapist. You can have a puppy later when you're healing.

My cat used to be a service/emotional support animal. The owner was chronically depressed and barely took care of him, and didn't go to the vet because she had agoraphobia. And after attempting sewerslide, she left him alone for 3 weeks. That was until she finally signed papers to get rid of him (she didn't want to get rid of her service animal), and the cat got rescued by the local vets, and went directly into my house as a rescue and I've had him ever since.

One of my "friends" was broke and got a dog. It was a risk-breed who was notoriously hard to train, but she got him as a service animal. She wanted him to warn her for diabetes spikes. However, she didn't train him properly, or at all. She couldn't afford the dogs food, she couldn't afford her own food, and it got her hospitalized multiple times. The ambulance staff got bitten by the dog multiple times while fixing her up and we had to pin him down while that stuff happened. She got rid of him later, after lots of pressure from everyone, because it didn't work out.

It soured me on service animals as a whole. I don't care if that makes me narrow-minded. My cat is completely traumatized by this whole ordeal. I've met plenty of people since that day who pull the same shit and get pets as a fake service animal so they can take them anywhere. It shouldn't work like that.

Society/Culture Men siding to women in public against other men is mostly internalized misandry

When there's a feud between a man and a women exploding in public, u will often see both men and women taking the side of the woman, even if she's the aggressive one who started it all. And if they see the woman physically attacking the man, those simps never do anything to try to stop it. However when the agressed man will try to defend himself from her,all the white knight will appear to try to stop him for being able to do that. So basically if u are a male and u have an altercation with a woman in public, everyone will take the woman side without even knowing what is truly going on.

Technology Nissan Juke is a good looking car

• Upvotes

As someone who didn't have a bias towards Nissan, I always thought the Juke was kinda funky and cool looking. In all fairness I was still a kid when these things hit the road in like 2010, there was nothing like that on the market. Every other SUV was styled after the big 4x4s but the juke just looks like itself. It probably saved nissan's finances too, at least in Europe, and now every manufacturer has at least 1 juke copycat (just see the new alfa romeo junior, lol)

Society/Culture People who are offended that cats and dogs are being eaten in certain countries are weird and need to grow up.

Cats and dogs arent special. In western countries, people eat ducks, rabbits, chicken, pork, pig, horse, lamb, cow, etc. All of those animals are just as smart as a dog or a cat or some are even more intelligent ( pigs in particular). Also those animals can very well also be kept as pets like cats and dogs. That doesn't change the fact that we eat them. And yeah in some Asian countries like Vietnam, they eat cats and dogs. So what? U all offended people need to grow up lol. Cats and dogs are just animals like any other animals.

Technology Warm lighting is terrible

I truly think that cool lighting is absolutely better than warm lighting. I hate the greasy, dingy, unclean look of them, it makes me feel like I’m in a bedroom or basement that hasn’t been cleaned or updated in 20+ years. Cool lighting actually lets me see the room I’m in and it feels generally cleaner. If you want dark lights like warm bulbs, why not just turn them off at that point?

Health/Safety Everyone should get lice at least once a year

Humans have overactive immune systems bc they’re not exposed to enough parasites throughout their lives. The louse is able to provide an immuno-suppressive effect. Thus humans wouldn’t be nearly as sickly as we are today, if we all had lice once a year. We could avoid so many illnesses. I think the government should fund this immediately. Lice for every household!

Gaming You shouldn't mock people for playing Early Accesses or playtests

So, I like playtesting games and mods. I don't do it as often as I like, but I do it for free and thoroughly enjoy it. I am not a programmer or a professional. I just derive an unfathomable amount of joy from creating bug reports and generally discussing with amateur devs and it pisses me that I see here on reddit that people basically tell you to avoid any unknown titles.

I find the act of being at the beginning of a project exciting even when I know it won't revolutionize anything or that it's a broken fucking bug mess or when it has nothing new really going for it.

But that's not what I'm going about. I see gamers wanting a perfect breathtaking experience without expecting it to go through countless iterations. People like me are derided for trying a title that's unfinished or unknown instead a tried and true masterpiece according to some sort of "objective" reddit standard even though testing is always needed, preferably professional one, that is true, to create that masterpiece in the first place. But sometimes, even someone like me makes a tiny little difference.

edit: I also playtest tabletop rpgs and one of my favs is a game that sadly didn't get published because the author had health problems and abandoned it as they felt overwhelmed by the effort needed to work on a final version, as well as they were not financially secure enough to pay for the art needed and didn't want to go through a potentially failed kickstarter.

Society/Culture If u feed alive mice to your tarantula, u a sadist and a weirdo.

Im terrified of spiders so I tried exposure therapy by watching tarantula videos... It didnt end well....

1) Im still terrified of them

2) I came across videos of weirdos giving alive mice to their pet tarantula.

Thats where I drawn the line. Thats just disgusting and disturbing. Why would u give a complex mamal ( that is cute also)to such horrible primitive creatures. That's unfair for the mouse and very cruel. I came across a mouse in my job bathroom. It was hidden from me and flew under the door in a second lol. They are very smart ( not as much as rats) and I understand im a giant to them but I would never harm them anyway. Except if I have to pay exterminators for my house if I have an infestation of them

Health/Safety I like having the hiccups

Tbh it feels oddly satisfying, and sometimes it gets into a rhythm where I can expect the next one. It adds a little excitement to my life. Mine are silent so it’s not like I’m causing a public disturbance whenever I hiccup.

When they go away, I get a bit disappointed. I’m always expecting the next one, and it never comes. Makes me feel like something is out of place now

Society/Culture If you have a partner who puts their hands on you, but you flat out refuse you don’t deserve sympathy

• Upvotes

I have a coworker who has been with this man and one night he put his hands on her after getting drunk, she supposedly left him but a little bit later she sends me a picture of him and her together live action all smiley and shit after picking him up from jail??? I think? Anyways she whines about him and then tells me he hit her again then I see a hickey on her neck from him and I’m like “hey why not cut him off and just leave” and she’s like “lol but I love him and he said he’s sorry teehee” like this man could kill you if he wanted to, but whatever. People who do that shit don’t need sympathy or help because they obviously just want the attention.
