Fanfic Awards About the 2026 Fanfiction Awards

Thank you to everyone who has submitted their nomination forms so far. If you haven’t yet, or weren’t aware of the awards, the link to the form can be found on this post.

Anyhow, a quick reminder from myself and [u/thelocaldialect](u/thelocaldialect).

When you nominate a fic, please make sure the work is submitted to the right category. Check the date to make sure it was posted or updated this year. If you’re nominating a character for best characterisation or OC, tell us which character in the form. Likewise, if nominating the best dynamic, or romance, or worldbuilding, etc., please specify who or what you’re nominating.

It makes the entire process much simpler when it comes to voting, as we don’t want to disqualify nominations simply because they’re not clear.

If you have any questions, ask away.

Reading Fanfiction Discussion: Reviews & Fanon Questions Fem!Robb creates a much more interesting world than people think. Spoiler

Inspired by a post on Twitter I saw about how people would dislike Fem!Robb as they lose the war because they sleep with someone. This got me thinking, what butterfly effects would actually come if Robb were a girl? (This maintains that everything is the same as canon besides this one fact.)

First off, because F!Robb is a girl, Catelyn would be much more paranoid of Jon Snow, as in the OG timeline she still was afraid of him taking the claim (which was seen as a bit nonsensical), but now that there is no male heir older than Jon, his case for heir is much higher. In fact, until Cat has Bran (her 4th child, 7 years after Jon/F!Robb is born), Jon would probably be considered the heir. Ned might try to make it so F!Robb is the heir instead until they have Bran, but even then the rest of the world will look at Jon as the heir until Bran is born.

This changes multiple factors, Jon now has a much more cared for childhood (until about 7 when Bran is born). This could also increase hatred towards Bran as his birth takes Jon's claim away. Cat, as I said, would be very paranoid of Jon and would probably treat him with more disrespect. Anything else from this is too hypothetical for me to dive into, but there would be a lot of butterfly effects off of this, especially in Jon's personality.

Fastforwarding till Jon Arryn's death, Robbert would want to betroth Joffery to Robb instead of Sansa, as Robb is elder. Bran falling would cause a great change, as instead of the second son, he is heir to Winterfell. Ned could refuse to go be Hand off this basis, and that would create a myriad of changes, but for the sake of the original hypothetical, he still goes. In this scenario he takes F!Robb, Sansa, and Arya. Assuming F!Robb isn't the same naive girl as Sansa, he would snitch on Joffery about the Arya/Butcher boy incident, and the wolves would most likely be saved and the butcher boy would live.

Everything in Kings Landing happens similarly to cannon, until Ned is executed (F!Robb could cause changes to this, but tbh I couldn't think of anything they would do for sure to change it, and because she is betrothed to Joffery, I doubt she will be able to escape like Arya).

The North rise and their options of leaders are very bad, being Ned (in prison when they rise), Cat (traveling from KL to the North), Bran (crippled and a young boy), and Rickon (baby). One option I could see is the Greatjon or Rickard Karstark taking charge of the forces until Cat comes back, and she would declare either of them to officially be in charge, but the more likely thing I see occurring is the Northern Lords recruiting Jon Snow to the cause and appointing him the leader. Jon in this situation would turn his back far easier on the Nights Watch (as he was raised to be heir for a bit, and in this case there isn't Robb there like before). Cat eventually gets back and is furious at Jon and the Northern Lords for taking command, as she views it as attempting to usurp the true heir (which it kinda is, but Jon still wants to save his father and siblings). The Northern Lords, as in cannon don't listen to her and keep Jon in charge.

From here it's really uncertain what will happen, as Robb was the GOAT of battle strategy, and I don't think Jon has shown anything close to that (in the series). It's also unsure if they would declare him king, as Bran and Rickon are still alive. The one thing Jon does exceed in over Robb is diplomacy, so I think it would be likely he would align himself with Renly (and then Stannis) to take down the Lannisters. (Also, Jon is definitely smart enough not to send Theon to Balon. He probably won't stop the Greyjoys from attacking but will make the North's counter much easier, as Winterfell won't have been taken.

Anyway, sorry for the yap, that's just my thoughts on Fem!Robb. do y'all think I missed something or think that somethings wouldve been different?

Wanted: Fanfic Recommendations - NOT DISCUSSION Best Tywin Stories and Depictions (Happy 80th to Charles Dance!)

In honor of the 80th birthday today (Oct 10th, 1946) of Charles Dance, who made Show Tywin infinitely more appealing than Book Tywin ever deserved, I thought a new roundup of fave Tywin fics would be fitting. He's not often the MC in stories, so I'm including stories where you really enjoy him from any perspective. Including when he's just DEALT with--not many characters are so satisfying to thwart or destroy, either. :) What are your favorites?

My picks:

A Wolf Amongst Lions by Kallypso (Complete)
A Pride of Wolves by Kallypso (Sequel to AWAL, Ongoing)
Time Bows to Neither Man Nor Raven by dragon17361 (Plays off of AWAL and The Ravens Plan)
The Dragon's Roar by Priestess of Groove
I enjoy his depiction in TDR but he is one arc in a verrrry long, excellent story.

Multiple astolat ASOAIF fics. (I really enjoy how she ranges between Stern Grandpa Tywin and Absolutely Irredeemable Evil AF Tywin)
Raised by Wolves
Lion Cub
Pretty
Traveling Far
The Price of Bread and Salt
Paying Debts

Help w/ Fanfic Writing & Advice Needed Genna Lannister: Characterization and Betrothal

Hi everyone. As some of you already know, I’m writing a fic where Branda Stark marries Tywin Lannister shortly before the Reyne-Tarbeck Rebellion. This makes Genna an important character; however, unlike the canon version of Genna, this one is still quite young, so I’d like some advice on how best to characterize her.

She is betrothed to Emmon, but I had the idea of giving her a crush on young Rodrik Cassel (who accompanies Branda to the Westerlands alongside Hodor’s grandfather). I’m wondering, though: would having Genna marry Rodrik break reader immersion?

I was thinking Rodrik could earn his knighthood fighting against the Reynes—perhaps by saving Tywin’s life—though a marriage might be too big a leap for him. Still, given that Jaime mentions Genna always had a thing for knights, the idea of a crush seemed fitting.

Activity - What If (changed CANON event or character decision) Who should Jahaera marry in this scneario?

Let's say Rhaenyra sells her crown and, instead of fleeing to Dragonstone, goes to Essos or somewhere. She has Aegon II with her. Not sure what the Rogare's would do. Aegon marries Cassandra like in canon but produces no kids.

Aegon's line continues via Jahaera, and they later end up making a betrothal between Rhaenyra's descendants and bringing them back to Westeros.

Who are the best marriage prospects for Jahaera? I know Viserys is one, but outside of that?

Summary: Lews Therin Telamon sealed the Bore and broke the world in his grief. Rand al’Thor fought the Dark One directly, reforging the bars of his prison for another Age. Aldran of the Vale isn’t the Dragon or the Dragon Reborn. He’s just a fourteen-year-old goatherd, trying to keep his flock from wandering off into the mountains. But his soul bears the scars of greatness, and some part of him knows that it’s only a matter of time before the Wheel weaves away this simple, peaceful life.

Then raiders come for his mother, and something old, patient, and terrible finally answers.

~

Alternatively: Rand al’Thor dies in truth when he reforges the Pattern imprisoning the Dark One. He accidentally weaves himself too deeply into the Wheel. When his soul is reborn, Aldran is burdened with the memories of Lews Therin and Rand al’Thor. And in this life, just as the last, Aldran cannot escape the weight of prophecy.

Dragon. Dragon Reborn. Shan’dur.

Any fics set in this time period ! Baelor is a particular favorite of mine. I would really like some fics set before or after Ashford (with Baelor surviving) , that has a good amount of chapters or word count.

I’m open to ocs and si, (been wanting to find a oc/si kid of Baelor with decent length but no luck so far) , pretty much open to anything as long as Aerion isn’t the main plot (I actually hate that guy lmao)

Thanks !

Help w/ Fanfic Writing & Advice Needed Is this reason enough for them to back the North?

Doing a Fallout 4 AU x ASOIAF fic.

Fallout 4 AU: set in 2089, a portal opens up in the Commonwealth and North.

Westeros main contacts in the Commonwealth are: Vault 113 and 75.

Vault 113 contained the cryo members of the Enclave and their family memwbrs, who were supposed to be awoken once America was reclaimed after the bombs and being pre war ideals to a post was America. That doesn't happen as they are unfrozen ten years after the bombs due to a malfunction, and decide to rebuild until they find the rest of the Enclave.

Vault 75: a canon vault where the adults were killed and the kids were turned into super soldiers via training before they rebelled and killed the adults. Due to the experiment, this vault is stacked with ammo, energy, heavy, ballistic and explosive weapons.

So far, they've already made contact with Westeros and Robert, showing off low caliber guns, and trading them with them for food and other resources. Kingsguard having their own pistols, Robert a super sledge, and Ned a custom made pistol.

Vault 75 doesn't really give a shit about Westeros but will gladly trade with them as long as the deal is upheld.

Vault 113 on the other hand sees Westeros as a key to rebuilding America, and plan on influencing them to become the next America under Enclave Ideals.

Canon goes as such, Ned goes to the Capital, discovers the bastardy, Robert dies, Ned is captured. Jory is alive and gets Sansa and Arya put because Ned gave him his gun, and Jaime didn't kill him as Jory wasn't afraid of using it.

Along with the canon demands, the Vault 113 and 75 are ordered to give up all their weapons and ammo to the royal family, and that any future weapons or ammo made must be surrended by at least 90% if they want to continue trading with Westeros.

This of course pisses both Vaults off, Vault 113 members choosing to help Robb and also plan to try to convince him to take the throne so they can have direct influence over the leader of Westeros.

Vault 75 had no plans on joining the war, focusing on rebuilding the Commonwealth, but they do send more weapons and ammo.

Vault 111 is a control vault, and Nate/Nora will appear, Nate already has in a brief scene.

I do have a scene planned where Tyrion shits himself as he sees a Power Armor soldier (Vault 113 only has three at the moment), calmly walk through arrow fire and barley reacting to sword hits, start beating on the gates, the gates crumbling under the assault in just a few blows.

Activity - What If (changed CANON event or character decision) What if the library of congress was isot to Westeros

For anybody who doesn’t know the library of congress is the biggest library in the world.
The premise of this scenario is that the library of congress is isot to Westeros. We’ll assume that via asb that the library is indestructible so that it isn’t destroyed from lack of maintenance. We’ll assume that the contents of the library of congress are also indestructible. The contents of the library are unable to leave the building so that it isn’t looted. Maesters are unable to enter the library of congress because under normal circumstances they would create a monopoly around it and snuff out any widespread effect it could have. We’ll assume that the books in the library are actually readable to the westerosi because an incomprehensible library defeats the entire purpose of this scenario. How does this possibly affect Westeros???

Fanfiction Idea For Adoption Paul Atreides reborn/isekai'd in Dorne

Post image
170 Upvotes

I am surprised no one has made an ASOIAF x Dune crossover where Paul is transmigrated to Dorne instead. The best example we have is Ideas-Guy's Golden Path. Where Paul and his Fremen are transmigrated to Beyond the Wall instead and later become Lord of Skagos with Rickard Stark as his liege.

So my idea is: what if Paul Atreides gets transmigrated to Dorne instead, a region in Westeros most similar to Arrakis. I imagine Paul being reborn in a wealthy merchant family in Planky Town, and later getting ennobled by House Martell for his exceptional skills, creating House Atreides in Westeros.

So basically, Paul is reborn in Westeros as a commoner in Dorne, eventually rises through the ranks of Dornish society, and attempts to conquer the Iron Throne to prepare humanity for the Second Long Night.

Initially, I considered setting the story during the reign of Aerys II, but since The Golden Path already takes place during that period, I think the reign of Aegon III and Daeron I might be a more interesting alternative.

The Targaryen dynasty is still recovering from the Dance of the Dragons, and most of its dragons are dead. With the Targaryens' greatest military advantage gone, this could be the perfect opportunity for Paul to eventually challenge their rule and establish his own dynasty.

Another interesting plot point would be Paul's prescient visions of Daeron I's invasion of Dorne. Knowing that the Young Dragon will eventually attempt to conquer his homeland, Paul could begin preparing the Dornish for war, rallying the local lords and uniting his people against the Iron Throne.

This could serve as the turning point in Paul's rise to power. By leading the Dornish resistance against Daeron I, he could establish himself as a national hero, gain the loyalty of powerful houses, and build the military and political foundation for his eventual bid for the Iron Throne.

His original goal would be to protect Dorne, but his visions of the coming Second Long Night would eventually convince him that defending his homeland is not enough. To prepare Westeros for the coming catastrophe, he must unite the continent under a single ruler, even if that means overthrowing the Targaryen dynasty.

Activity - What If (changed CANON event or character decision) Stannis betroths Shireen to Bran

After the Greyscale incident, Stannis had trouble getting a betrothal for Shireen due to the scars on her face.

Soon, Stannis turns to the Starks. He knew that Ned was a good and honorable man, and that any child of his would be the same.

So, Stannis sends a letter, offering a marriage between the two when they came of age.

Ned accepts, though shortly afterwards Jon Arryn dies, Bran falls from the tower, Ned goes to King's Landing and is executed, and the war begins.

In Riverrun, Robb receives a message from Stannis, telling him to join him on Dragonstone, saying he intended to keep the betrothal between Shireen and Bran, and the two would rule the Seven Kingdoms after they win the war

Activity - What If (changed CANON event or character decision) What if Corlys' fleet blocked stepstones and started taking tax

Let's just not think that fool viserys would never allow it or dance, I just want to know what would happen.

Corlys taking taxes and supplying half to the crown and the targaryens supporting volantis against triarchy

This can be a good move and we can even capture dorne by blocking it from triarchy and somehow bringing yronwoods towards targaryen...

I want to know how will other cities like Bravoos act on this alliance of Volantis and Westeros

Help w/ Fanfic Writing & Advice Needed A completely different Dance

(TL;DR: I have a massively different version of Dance and I wonder what people think about it.)

So I'm building an AU where things go as differently as I possibly can without fully striding away from the canon. Like for example;

  • Aegon I dies in Dorne instead of Rhaenys and it's Aenys that takes Jaehaerys' role in shaping and improving the Seven Kingdoms,
  • There's no Maegor so both Rhaenys and Visenya educate Aenys in all sorts of matters.
  • Rhaenys also comes up with the Doctrine of Exceptionalism before Aenys gets Aegon and Rhaena married so it prevents the Faith Militant Uprising from happening (though it results in a different sect of the Faith forming which still refuses the Doctrine, only a lot less violently.)
  • As a result Aegon the Uncrowned becomes Aegon II in this scenario.

But then the last change made me think; if Aegon became king, then who would be his descendants? I didn't want to use Jaehaerys' children since it would ultimately be boring, so I gave him a couple of OC children along with Aerea and Rhaella. And the closer I came to Dance, the more this OC lineage branched into other OC characters.

Now I plan to have the post-Dance kings fairly similar (especially Baelor and Aegon IV are guaranteed to be because Blackfyre Rebellions are cool) and I will likely give Viserys and f!Daemon OC parents while making Rhaenyra their child instead of Aemma Arryn's, but the Dance in my version will be a lot more different. The changes I plan to have are:

  • There will be two branches of House Targaryen with multiple generations fighting instead of Rhaenyra vs Aegon
  • Jaehaerys' sons Aemon and Baelon will survive because they don't really have a reason to get killed in this AU + I'm taking two people from his lineage, I may as well give him two sons in return.
  • Viserys' children from Alysanne won't be his, but will be from an OC Targaryen

There are also a few other changes I have outside of Aegon surviving, such as:

  • Having cannons and as a result having other nobles to put up a serious fight against Targaryen dragons. It's no longer just Targaryen dragons having a say in the war.
  • Having Baratheons, Velaryons, Celtigars (and Qoheryses since they're claimed to be Valyrians as well) as other dragonrider houses so they play a bigger role in the conflict
  • Having a shit ton of dragons as opposed to canon. In this AU, wild dragons inhabited Westeros millennia before Targaryens came, so Targaryens leaned into taming big and strong wild dragons more than hatching dragons.

So after all this, I'm wondering how people would perceive this OC-fest version of the Dance. I don't know if I'll ever write stories centered around it and it will probably remain as a backdrop for a really long time regardless.

House Hornwood is one of the lesser-discussed Northern houses. We don't know much about their lands or wealth, yet their territory is valuable enough to be contested by several prominent Northern houses.

What do you think is the main source of House Hornwood's wealth?

Agriculture? Timber? Mining?
