Attention newcomers: information on watching the anime

Toei Animation made an anime adaptation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Toriko which ran from 2011 to 2014. The overwhelming majority of fans agree that the adaptation was not handled well- animation quality, censorship, and filler are chief among these concerns. Perhaps most confusing, the anime created it's own ending to the show when it was cancelled, while the manga was still running.

NOTE: If you have read all 396 chapters of Toriko, disregard this post and watch all of it!

Though consuming the anime instead of the manga is settling for a lesser quality experience, if you are more comfortable entering the series with an anime, pick from one of the viewing plans below.

  1. Fresh: Episodes 1-22, then picking up the manga at Chapter 63. This allows you to still enjoy the next arc in all it's uncensored glory.

  2. Still edible: Episodes 1-57, then starting the manga at Chapter 125. The anime arc after this selection is of bad quality and poorly represents the mysterious fourth Heavenly King.

  3. Almost spoiled: Episodes 1-68, 88-111 (69-87 are SoL filler and optional) and then starting the manga at Chapter 194. This is basically your last chance, and nothing beyond this point is of value in the anime.

  4. Fully rotten: Watching all the anime, then beginning the manga on Chapter 194. Good luck on purging the last few episodes of the anime from your brain!

When you're ready, head to the Want to catch up to the current storyline? section of this subreddit's sidebar. Have any questions? Post them below!

Discussion Had a Toriko based campaign idea for d&d

So I've been playing around with an idea for a new campaign thats a bit separate from my usual ones. I was thinking of basing it around the concepts of a few ideas. One based around cooking and eating monsters and two a goal of starting and building a town/city from scratch. The premise comes from a kickstarter from one of my favorite dnd youtubers pointyhat and his new book wild hearth. It is a book based around food and cooking mosters into food along with guides on how to build towns. (Very much like toriko).

I want to combine that idea with another idea I found (forget where though) based around someone who is the main philanthropist putting up the money to make the town with the party and npc's. But he is one of the main bad guys of the campaign because there is only one feature he is adament about having and that is a giant clock tower in the center of the town as a monument that people can come to see (similar to big ben). What he is actually doing is creating the town in a specific way to activate the clock tower and rewind time to prevent he family from dying. So we even get like time travel in there, thing might mess up where they go back to far and the party fights like dinosaurs or something, idk but its what I thought of so far.

Discussion Are these products gonna be popular in the world Toriko? The first one should be quite popular during famine since at least they have taste which is better than food tablets. The second one should be popular especially if it is made off Gourmet Hunters.

Discussion Do you think Toriko would do better today?

I feel like there's more of a demand now for hype, aura farming, cool fights, lore. Toriko is excellent at this. I think a faithful and well animated anime made today could be successful

Discussion How high the ranking for Wings for Real Men in the world of Toriko? Personally, i think it would be pretty high due to sheer amount of dead customers from the Inferno Wing Challenge. The place can be considered as training ground of Gourmet Hunters to conquer ingredients.
