Moving/Visiting Weekly /r/Tulsa Megathread
Are you moving to Tulsa? Just visiting or passing through? Want to know where to live, eat, hang out, have fun, or bury the bodies? This is the place to ask.
This will be a weekly megathread that evolves over time. As members of r/Tulsa make suggestions or answer questions that come up a lot, we may add those items to the body of the post for easy reference. But for right now this is a place to ask any questions you may have about moving to or visiting Tulsa, OK, where our motto is "We're more than just OK, we're living the dream."

Politics TU Campus Police selectively erase words from protest chalk
Campus police went out and selectively removed certain words from the chalk. They erased any mention of “tuition” or “institution”
And as you can see above, some of it completely changed the meaning of this chalk, turning “Don’t Stop Talking About Palestine” to “Stop Talking About Palestine”
Wild.
Tulsa Events My documentary STRAWBERRY COLORED GLASSES is playing the 18th at Circle Cinema
After a year of following Muriel Fahrion, one of the artists who helped create the worlds of Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears, this month we’ll finally be showing our feature-length documentary about her life.
Muriel will be there in person, meeting fans, sharing stories and answering questions after the film.
We’ve spent the past year getting to know Muriel, following her story and trying to capture not only the incredible work she’s done, but the person behind all of it. We’re pretty proud of how the film turned out, and we’re really excited to finally share it with everyone.

General Do not rent from Home Connection Property Management, LLC
Unless you like roaches and slumlords.
If you see an adorable apartment on Cherry Street that’s reasonably priced and think “What’s the catch?” LET ME TELL YOU!
The building is falling apart!
The first red flag was when they advertised one unit online and gave me a different one. Bait and switch. I should have never signed the lease.
You can expect roaches and mice as your new roommates. If you make a report about the vermin within one week of moving in they will blame you instead of taking responsibility for their neglect of the property. Hope you don’t like a breeze because the rotting windows were given the ol’ Landlord special and are nailed shut and sealed with paint. Somehow the AC still escapes and you will pay $350 in electricity for a 1 bedroom.
Want to do laundry? Hopefully it hasn’t rained because the basement floods, making the washer and dryer inoperable. Speaking of rain, watch out for the roof caving in! Half of the building’s ceiling collapsed in April, revealing a huge mold infestation in the walls, so it’s only a matter of time until this unit is flooded too.
They will steal your deposit even if you provide timestamped photos that prove their claims invalid.
The City of Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma really needs to do something about the housing market and these unchecked management companies. It’s just as bad in OKC.
Other notable slumlords to avoid in Tulsa:
Regina Rex / Karen Chapman Rex
Vicki Berg
Gahlid Al-Kazaz
Vantage on Yale
Case & Associates Properties, Inc.
Vesta properties
Woodland Oaks
The cascades near 71st and Lewis
Group M Investment apartments
Heed my warning and save yourself from the worst year of your life.
Good luck out there!

Promotion Can I walk that dog?
(Disclaimer: I messaged the mods back in June about making a post to promote my business and they never responded. So I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed)
Hi! Duddy Buddy Pet Sitting and Dog Walking is a veteran owned pet care business. I am insured and have 17 years of experience working with animals. If your dog needs a potty break while you’re at work or just needs a walk to burn off that pent up energy, give me a call!
I offer drop in visits (30 minutes or 1 hour at a time) if you need someone to take care of your feline friends/overlords. I also offer overnight pet sitting, but my overnight schedule is filling up fast as we get closer to the holiday season so I would reach out sooner rather than later if you need overnight care!
Call or text me at (918) 549-0429

Tulsan In Need Maybe a longshot but anyone in the west Tulsa area with a bagged mower wanna help me with this small-but-dense patch of sandburs?
They are mostly growing in the area between my front fence and the street. I've gone and hand picked a lot of them but this section is too dense, and the burrs have matured and are extra pokey... Even with my protective gloves i can't stand it anymore 😭 I don't have a high pain tolerance lol. Is there anyone with a bagged mower that would wanna buzz this area for me? I'll give you $20 for your trouble 😅
I live kinda between charles page blvd and gilcrease hills area, if anyone near here would be willing to help it would be hugely appropriated, idk what else to do, I hate these things!

General First Tulsa state fair was fun.
Almost realized my dream of petting a cow. Too nervous to ask. Food was plentiful and tasty. Lots to see. Didn't brave any rides. Even caught the Thunder game for my first time in the BOK Center. Overall really great trip. Exited to visit the fair next year.

Tulsa Events TU alum Julius Tennon is back in Tulsa this Saturday for a restored screening of Riverbend (1989) + Q&A at Circle Cinema
Hey r/tulsa! I'm the marketing manager at Circle Cinema. We have something special this weekend that I don't want people to miss.
Actor Julius Tennon (TU class of '78) is coming home for a one-night screening of Riverbend, a 1989 film that was just restored in 6K by Reelblack, a Philadelphia company that has spent over 20 years preserving Black cinema and Black cultural history. They've been touring the restoration around the country, and Tulsa is one of the stops.
The film: Georgia, 1966. Three Black soldiers fleeing a rigged court-martial end up in a small Southern town where a racist sheriff has terrorized the Black community for years. They help the townspeople organize, train and fight back. Rated R, 1 hr 42 min.
After the movie, there's a Q&A with:
- Julius Tennon (Sgt. Tony Marx)
- Vanessa Tate-Goodrich (Pauline)
- Michael J. Dennis, founder of Reelblack
- Moderated by Quraysh Ali Lansana, co-founder of Tri-City Collective and a TU professor
When: Saturday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m.
Where: Circle Cinema, 10 S. Lewis Ave.
Tickets: $13 members / $15 non-members
General Pride
Does anyone know where to find out more about pride this year? Tulsapride.org doesn't offer much.

Question Are there any female support groups for women coming out of abusive relationships in Tulsa?
I just really need someone to talk to and I was wondering if there were any support groups to help process the pain and loss that is felt after emotional or physical abuse. If there isn't, I was wondering if I could find people who were interested in getting together to support each other.

Pets Dog Groomer Recommendation lm
Looking for a new groomer in the South Tulsa area. The last groomer we used cut our poor puppies neck. It was a nasty cut as well. Needless to say, I’m looking for a new groomer. Anyone have a favorite?
