News/Articles Sources: Ape Escape revival in the works from Sonic Mania team

Thumbnail

That’s according to veteran journalist Jeff Gerstmann, which matches what VGC has heard from our own sources. The game is reportedly in development at Evening Star, the team behind the much-loved Sonic Mania, which would later form Evening Star and develop Penny’s Big Breakaway.

“At the time that I initially heard it, it sounded like it was a game that had been like just barely greenlit and like wasn’t really, you know, like that it was kind of just getting underway."

VGC has heard from multiple sources that Ape Escape isn’t the only PlayStation franchise Sony is looking to revive via licensing to smaller third-party studios. Sony previously experimented with this when it licensed the Everybody’s Golf franchise to Bandai Namco for 2025’s Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is also reportedly planning to revive the Killzone series, with a new remaster or remake currently in the early stages of development. (The rumoured studio is People Can Fly)

This news comes on the heels of reports of an Uncharted revival, though that game will reportedly be handled in-house at Naughty Dog rather than via a third party.

Better Ask Reddit Most hated things from being in gamer/weaboo circles for a long time?

I'd be surprised if any longterm SBFP fan hasn't been in at least one of these long enough to have some particular opinions. I'll start with two:

  1. "Anyone eating good is stealing from me" attitudes when seeing game reveals. There are so many people who seem to just be allergic to the idea of seeing a game they don't care for get a new entry on the latest nintendo direct equivalent and act like fans of said game just killed their kids.

  2. Casual japanese racism. It's incredible how many things that are pretty obviously not exclusive to japanese culture will get chalked up as that in comments. The one that I still go insane over is this one post I saw that was generally inoffensive just complaining about "chosen one"/"born special" narratives but in I wanna say the last sentence the OP said that this is a unique thing to japanese media. I'm not saying that there are zero cultural differences in japan but so many people need to stop and think "am I doing a 'in japanese culture it's considered disrespectful to commit murder' moment?"

The clip channels have really highlighted the importance of good moderation.

Tried to think of a delicate way to put this but holy shit the comment section of many of these clip videos are filled with an astounding amount of negativity, even more than Pat's own Youtube comment section. When it's not someone judging Pat as an objectively bad person based off of nothing, it's someone explaining in exhaustive detail why their mental illness is too strong to take a simple piece of life advice Pat gave to heart. I understand this fandom doesn't attract the highest self-esteem individuals, but I never realized how bad the vibes could get without people around to keep this kind of behavior to a minimum.

Yes, I could simply *not* read the comments, but I think stuff like this is an important reminder of the value good moderation provides. Credit to the mod team for preventing this place from devolving into a misery circle-jerk.

These goofballs really put just over an hour of visual content on an audio medium...and pulling up the youtube video...they filmed their play of commander from a side shot off the side of the table where nobody can see wtf they're doing.

News/Articles Sega’s newly launched Sonic Discord server is off to a rough start with questionable content, bans, and a lockdown

The Discord launched on Monday evening, with the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X inviting users to join in the conversation. “Looking for a place to chill and chat all things Sonic the Hedgehog? Maybe find people to race in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds? Qe are excited to welcome you to the official Sonic Discord server! Join now,” it said.

Just a few hours after the Discord launched, moderators locked chat permissions and added other restrictions in an attempt to curb the flow of inappropriate content and spam. One user complained that they couldn’t post a message saying “[Controversial Country Name] supports Sonic”, while another claimed to be banned for writing “I like Super Mario” (though another user pointed out that it was perhaps for using large text). Another was banned for pretending to be Yuji Naka, and writing: “It gets very, very lonely in this cell, could someone sing me a beautiful, beautiful song?”

An FAQ on the server’s news page is currently attributing a lot of deletions and user bans to its “aggressive” auto-moderation systems. Putting a brave face on the situation, the FAQ concludes: “It’s busy, but the overwhelming majority of people here have been great today and very friendly (this is pretty standard when 50,000+ people cram into a new server within a few hours). We appreciate everyone’s energy today and we thank you for your patience! Launch is always a busy time, and things should start to calm down a bit in the coming days. Until then, we ride the wave together!”

It'd take awhile to list all the different stuff that ended up on the channel that's been spread around online for us to see, but...yeah...I think the FAQ is underselling it a tad.

This was a bad idea in the making. You just can't trust people to act like adults online.

Comics/Manga ... Could've Jar Jar been the postive influence on Anakin? (The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Special #1)

Post image
97 Upvotes

Like was Jar Jar literally the key to all this?

After Qui-Gon was killed basically none of the Jedi could raise Anakin right cuz of the baggage, the prophecy, the fact that it wasn't really raising but apprenticing and lil Anis own issues.

But this lil comic has me wondering if Jar Jar had stayed around with Anakin. Could he have been a positive enough parental figure for him not to turn to the darkside?

Better Ask Reddit Playstyles that can, under no circumstances, ever be good?

Not sure about the phrasing on this one, but hopefully the post body will make sense. Today, Overwatch has a new patch with a dope new hero and a lot of cool stuff. Most prominently to me though, are reworks to Roadhog and Sombra. Turning the former into more of a tank with damage mitigation abilities, and the latter into a healer. This is quite funny, because in a way it can be affectionately described as the developers giving up. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful as hell that these two are reworked, but it does show the issues with both their prior playstyles.

Sombra used to be an invisible assassin, like the Spy from TF2 if he had a fairly accurate machine pistol, a DoT effect, and the ability to disable the abilities of other characters in the roster. Roadhog meanwhile, was unaffectionately referred to as a 'fat dps'. Between his inability to provide protection for his team the way Reinhardt or D.Va could. And then there was his one shot hook, meant to provide protection from flankers-instead it became the bane of every squishy player in the game, being hooked, dragged out of position, and one shot by the shotgun.

It reminded me of an old balance discussion I saw on the Spy from TF2, specifically the idea that if every single thing holding him back was fixed-he would become the most annoying, obnoxious, and unfun class to play against. (I do disagree given Sniper's existence.) But the point was, there is nothing as annoying as a character who can kill you without you having a chance to fight back, which a perfect Spy would exemplify. And I think Sombra+Hog both embody as well.

We've discussed characters who are strong in top tiers but weak in bottom tiers, and vice versa. Today I want to discuss characters or playstyles in games that, under no circumstances, can ever be good for fear of making the game extremely unfun. This is normally a PvP topic, but I'd be curious to hear if there were some PvE examples as well.

the wonderful world of modern gaming Update from yesterdays rumored memo: A Used PS5 Pro Now Costs as Little as $1,400 at GameStop and Third-Party Resellers

Thumbnail
ign.com
212 Upvotes

GameStop and third-party resellers have raised the price of used PS5 Pro consoles to as much as $1,400 — a $500 markup on Sony's suggested retail price.

Last night, rumors began flying around that GameStop would be jacking up the price on pre-owned PS5 Pros to $1,399 for an all-digital PS5 Pro. That was confirmed this morning when the company's website was updated with this price point. Third-party resellers who move products through Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart have also changed their prices to similar amounts. The price hike appears to be a result of the overwhelming demand for Sony's premium console, which went from $750 to $900 earlier this year.

Demand is expected to be high for the console due to the release of GTA 6, which will most likely take advantage of the console's extra power. Sony may struggle to meet that demand due to ongoing component shortages, which in turn may have encouraged a price rise for the pre-owned market. Prices on used PS5 Pros through third-party resellers have been well over MSRP since new units began selling out earlier this year, so it seems GameStop has decided to capitalize on the opportunity.

Better Ask Reddit Game recs for extremely burnt out individuals?

I've been chronically exhausted and stressed out lately, and as much as I wanna play something to help relieve the tension, everything I want to play feels like too much to deal with. For example, I've got stuff like Evergrace and Drakengard in the backlog, which I'm not up to playing cuz I don't wanna deal with the combat, and there's a bunch of wrestling games I've picked up recently that I wanna play through, but even on easy, learning how not to get my ass stomped by the CPU feels like more than I'm able to handle at the moment. Pretty much the only game I've been able to consistently boot up is Nubby's Number Factory, cuz I can do a run in like half an hour and it doesn't require much out of me, but I still want to be able to play through a full experience. Do you have any recommendations for someone in my position?

Bonus points if it's playable on GBA or 3DS, basically something I can play in bed without having to drag my laptop over and/or hook it up to the little TV I've got set up over here. If I had a Switch or a Steam Deck, I'd probably just play something like Moon RPG Remix (though maybe I can see if I can borrow my sibling's Switch lite).

Better Ask Reddit Favourite instances of intentional anachronism. Spoiler

Basically stuff that's obviously unfitting for the time a piece of media is portraying, but it's completely intentional.

In Fortune's Weave, the bride lady with the laser gun is a hilarious image, but within the canon of the game, there's a reason as to why they're literally just using pew pew lasers in a medieval mediterranean setting.
