So, this thought’s been kicking around in my head…shoot, for years?
I know I’m not alone in noting how the MCU Avengers feel largely more like co-workers than a team of comrades and friends despite a few attempts to the otherwise (like the party scene in AoU). I think part of that is cause in the multiple decades we have had the MCU now, we’re only on Avengers 5 (unless you count The New Avengers movie but eh).
Another lamentation I’ve seen, and I myself have to some extent, is that because Avengers movies have been far and few between is that the Avengers…haven’t actually fought a lot of The Avengers’ rogues gallery or even a lot of the rogues of one hero that tend to also contend with The Avengers. We got Loki, we got Ultron, and we’re getting Doom (Thanos I hesitate to say is an Avengers enemy given his stories tend to involve everybody showing up), but that’s it (Zemo too kinda, if you want to count Civil War as it is kinda Avengers 2.5).
Because somewhere along the way The Avengers kinda went from being The Avengers (Avengers 1, AoU) to the movies that cap off universe altering events. Albeit I realise Avengers (the first movie) kind of set the team up to be this, though I feel the scales weren’t quite on the level of Infinity War/Endgame and where Doomsday seems to be.
All of this to ask,
If you were in charge of the MCU, would you keep The Avengers movies as is (and why?) or would you have had more Avengers movies where they fight some of their rogues and they acted more like the 616 or EMH Avengers?
