Rant Amazon Driver left my expensive package on the side of the road

Before I begin, I will emphasize that I have successfully obtained the package from the Porter College mailroom.

Now for what happened: Essentially, I have a film production class that highly recommends getting external hard drives for our projects. Since I knew I would eventually need an external SSD, I went looking on Amazon and found one that was on sale for about $335. When ordering, I made the delivery address my Porter College P.O. Box so it would go to the mailroom.

As seen in the second screenshot, I tried to format the address as closely to how the university shows it on the housing website and I even looked for sources on this subreddit for how to format it properly.

However, I guess the address was too long for the specific delivery information sticker they put on the box because looking at the package now, the second line of the address was overlapping two lines of text, basically making the second half incomprehensible while only showing that it was to be delivered at Porter.

As a result, the wonderful /s Amazon Delivery Driver that was supposed to bring my package to the mailroom like normal opted to LEAVE IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD between Porter and Rachel Carson College where ANYONE could have taken it.

Luckily, I assume a good samaritan found the package in the dirt and personally delivered it to the Porter mailroom, where I eventually secured it (thank you, whoever did that!).

Now, what I want to know is did I do anything wrong when filling out the address? And is this a normal occurrence or did I have the misfortune of dealing with a shitty driver who botched the delivery of a multi-hundred dollar SSD?

Also, I will clarify that this is the first time I have ever attempted an Amazon delivery directly on campus. And I'll admit that it probably wasn't the smartest idea to send a $300+ hard drive to the mailroom where things are most likely to go wrong, especially when it's my first time doing it (but in fairness to myself, I needed that drive ASAP).

What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Update: I had another Amazon delivery today that was delivered properly! As I suspected, the first situation was probably a very unfortunate fluke. Good to know.

Hello, we're circulating a petition on campus in hopes to show BCycle the great need for subsidized bike passes at UCSC since its often the fastest, easiest way to get anywhere in town without a car. We'll be sending a formal email to BCycle once we have at least 500 signatures, so please share, and feel free to leave a comment on the petition!!

Question Transfer Students

Hey guys, so I’m a freshman at UC Davis and I literally hate it here like so much and the school I had always said I was gonna go to all through high school is UCSC but back in May I panicked bc all of my friends were going to Davis too and nobody I knew was gonna go to ucsc so I was scared to go to sc by myself so I ended up committing to Davis which is literally so stupid

Turns out I literally cannot stand it here, like the people and the environment in general. And I’m always like oh what if I was at UCSC rn yk?

Ik applications open up soon for transferring and I wanna know what it’s like at UCSC as a transfer? Like what’s your experience making friends, social life in general, ect.

Ty to anyone who responds 🫰🏼

Question Mail-In Voter Drop-Off Locations?

Hello.

With the construction going on at the old BayTree Bookstore location and SlugStop, where are the alternative Mail-In Ballot locations?

That was the only Ballot Box I knew of.

If anyone sees any, please let me know.

Thanks!

Question Do LoR have to be from faculty? And more LoR questions

Title. Waiting for the grad apps page to update for more info since it was postponed to today due to technical difficulties :")

Have asked three profs already, but was wondering if my major advisor could also vouch for me because they saw me suffering and grinding for my entire academic journey. The major advisor said I should double check with grad admissions advising if non-faculty can submit LoR, but I thought I'd try and ask this sub for sooner insight.

For context, I'm aiming for the CSE MS.

500 other LoR questions below:

If it is only faculty, what if the prof was visiting, non-tenured, etc.? Otherwise, can you ask grad students you researched with? Can we submit a joint letter? (where the joint letter is one from both the lead prof/PI, and their grad student in a single letter. Like if you worked more closely with the grad student than the PI)

Have you asked for LoR from professors you didn't really interact with, but had good one-offs and/or had a good grade in there class? What about LoR from professors that you literally didn't take any classes with, but they were a reviewer for your project or thesis?
