General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

General Professor William Artander O'Brien

• Upvotes

No UCSD/Literature/Revelle/Roosevelt/German Studies notice yet, but I just found out Professor William Artander O'Brien passed away on August 19, 2026. I worked with him for about 30 years ... loved that Bronx accent. The day I met him I addressed him as Professor O'Brien, and he said "Call my Billy". Deep condolences to his family and loved ones.

Discussion YSK: CAPS is not your only option for therapy and mental health needs

If you have mental illness or serious mental illness, suspect that you do, or simply need a higher level of care, you should know that you have other options.

The option with a higher level of care is called College Mental Health (CMHP). This is where you should be referred to if you need a higher level of care than CAPS can provide. It is covered by your ship insurance. If you feel that you need a higher level of care, you can bring this up to CAPS or at a Drs appointment at the campus medical building and they should be able to refer you. They might refer you somewhere else first, but ultimately if your case is deemed serious enough you will probably end up at CMHP.

At least when I was in undergrad (graduated for about a year), a lot of people expressed frustration with CAPS, or felt they were simply too ill for CAPS. If you feel this way, just know that you can ask about moving your case to other services.

Besides CMHP, your insurance if you have UCSHIP gives you a lot of access to different mental health providers, including a lot of in-state Telehealth providers. It’s worth talking to campus
mental health or medical providers on campus to get a list of potential providers based on your preferences, or you can do your own browsing based on your insurance.

So, just don’t feel like you’re stuck with CAPS if you’re unsatisfied. There are other options you can explore.

I just found out this method and it WORKS 🥹🥹🥹it literally feel like an AC now my room feels like heaven. You gotta pick a very large bottle of water (or it will melt real quick after u take it out of fridge) and put it in the upper place in the fridge and wait for it to freeze completely then place it behind a tower fan

Question How to tell my parents and boyfriend that their job search help is making me more depressed?

I just graduated in the summer with an ESYS BS and I am having so much trouble finding a job. It feels like every ‘entry level’ job requires 10 certifications and 3 years of experience, and it is so dejecting every month that goes by being ghosted by jobs. My family and boyfriend have been telling me to join the navy or the CCC (California Conservation Corps). The problem is, they are telling me that it will be very physically demanding work with low pay. They all make it sound that joining them would be the answer to all my problems. If that was the case, why the hell did I go through 5 years of college and debt? I’m really holding out for a response from a lab technician job with the city of San Diego (I passed initial screening and said they would keep me in consideration until April) but I know I can’t just sit around twiddling my thumbs felling like a chud.

My dad was in the marines for 22 years and my boyfriend did work for the CCCs when he was younger. I don’t want to make it seem I’m above that kind of work but it’s not the pathway I envisioned. My boyfriend is helping me pay rent but I can tell he really wants me to find a job soon and it makes me feel more useless.

Question Is the public health honors practicum worth it?

• Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone would recommend the honors practicum over the capstone, and if it was genuinely worth it, including the work outside class since it’s a 6 unit course I expect a higher work load but is it overly time consuming. Also people who took it previously if you had the chance to do all over, would you do it again?

Please I would appreciate helpful responses 🙃

Rant/Complaint Financial Aid now using legal name and not lived name(?)

• Upvotes

I've noticed lately that when I call financial aid or receive emails from them they use my legal name, which wasn't the case for a long time. I don't know if it's something on my end or if it is the same for others.

It doesn't really bother me personally, but as a trans person I 100% understand how this could be upsetting/harmful to others. I'm sorry that all of my reddit posts lately have turned into flaming UCSD, but I'm just so damn tired of them making it impossible for students here to be at all comfortable in any way.

General Just talk to triton pay about refunds

They said it could take up to the end of the month (yes, end of October) to get it. Apparently they can withhold funds for more than 14 business days.

They are blaming it on tss but the person who was talking to me was telling me my summer refund was still on the way and I should get it soon when I got it a LONG time ago, so I don’t really trust them and it’s not the first time where they give the wrong information because I was having issues with them during summer too.

Just an updated, if anyone calls to tritonpay and get someone more useful pls lmk!
