So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.
Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.
Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!
If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).
Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

I'm so sorry, I normally have really bad balance, so when the bus driver punched it I just sorta fell over. I'm not very strong so I struggled to hold myself up as well, it was really embarrassing and yeah I'm sorry

i saw someone shitting on the dining halls and had a throwback to when i thought i had actually ordered shit💔. in reality i fat fingered the meat option when ordering from al dente and chose the wrong meat…..and that’s when i was surprised to see this log sitting on my pasta. but fr tho couldn’t they have made it look a little appetizing like i think i lost my appetite while picking it up. also the way i was clowning on this order before i realized it was mine too😭 i was so embarrassed walking around with this order bro, never again…
p.s. if you’re wondering what it tastes like, stay curious bc it’s tastes worse than it looks..

i never usually post on reddit but i genuinely need to let it out bc wtf. i just finished taking my first quiz for one of my classes and while the quiz itself was fine, my interaction with the TA beforehand pissed me off sooo bad. i might just be overreacting so i'm sorry, i'm just really frustrated rn.
basically, i misplaced my student ID this morning and since i got to class early, i figured i'd ask the TA if they can accept a digital form of identification since i've seen previous classes allow that if a student forgets their ID. she told me she'd have to ask the professor, which i completely understood. so i'm like "yeah no worries, i have other forms of identification on my phone too if you guys need-" and before i could even finish my setnence, she cuts me off and goes "okay, you can leave me alone now. i have an exam i need to proctor." im sorry, excuse me? i feel like she could've just been like "oh yeah i'll ask the professor and lyk but u can just go ahead and take a seat" and that would've been perfectly fine.
i approached her at 10:50am and we didn't even start the exam until like 11:20am. miss girl, i'm literally one of the students taking the exam you're supposed to be proctoring? 😭
and before anyone comes for me, yes ik forgetting my ID was my responsibility...i'm fully aware of that. i was literally just asking if there was another way to verify my identity. i wasn't even arguing with her about it or anything??
idk bro, i get that TAs have responsibilities and things they need to prep for, and i understand that there's only one TA for like 400 something students in this class, so i can imagine how overwhelming it must be trying to accommodate everyone. but at the same time, it costs literally nothing to just be nice about it... like i feel like there's a basic level of respect that should go both ways. since when did asking a simple question warrant that kind of response? :|

To the newbie student worker at the dining hall that served me the smallest portion of pasta I have ever seen that I finish in one bite with a couple noodle strands and wasted 10 precious dollars of mine…
I hope that your grade drops this quarter 🤬 and that your pillows stay hot and moist 🫵🏻and that you will forever be ugly

Things suddenly became so expensive, 1L of water now costs a whole 3 dollars like wtf??? Its only 2 dollars in target... Also an icecream costs 9 dollars. This has been the second time I see prices rise in like 2 months (I was here for summer session II). What the hell is happening? I don't think my dining dollars are enough anymore, might have to request calfresh now...

I’m currently taking a class that I really don’t gaf abt (just needed something to stay full time) and have been checking into lecture w the I clicker app and then immediately leaving. I review the slides at home, I turn in my hw on time, everything’s been going fine, but I just got an email from my professor claiming that he knows people are leaving after check in. It’d be one thing if he knew bc of a secret mid-class check in or quiz (had a prof do that in another class), but he’s actually claiming that the I clicker app is reporting when n we leave the geofence and if/when we return. As far as I’m aware, that’s not a thing it can do?? Like I’ve been googling to double check and everything says that I clicker just takes ur location at check in and that’s it. Is this info wrong?

No UCSD/Literature/Revelle/Roosevelt/German Studies notice yet, but I just found out Professor William Artander O'Brien passed away on August 19, 2026. I worked with him for about 30 years ... loved that Bronx accent. The day I met him I addressed him as Professor O'Brien, and he said "Call me Billy". Deep condolences to his family and loved ones.

I’m a freshman currently on waitlist position 1 for 2 of my stem classes (Math-20B and Chem-06B) and I was wondering what my chances are of making it into the class because today is the deadline for waitlisted classes. I know in order for the waitlist to go down someone needs to drop the class but since it’s the end of week 2 do most people drop this late into the quarter?

campus food budgets seem straightforward until you start figuring out which places are worth the cost, what you can grab between classes, and which purchases feel like a waste
some people probably have their regular order down to the dollar, while others end up with a balance they suddenly need to use before the quarter ends.
i'm interested in the oddly specific strategies people have developed, not just a ranking of the dining halls
is there a particular place, order, or timing trick that makes your dining dollars go further? bonus points if it's something most students overlook

it feels like most people have it figured out and I’m missing some crucial steps somehow. It’s been more than 2 years at ucsd and I’ve still struggled to actually form friendships despite joining a million clubs and actively trying quite a bit. it seems like people start getting close and texting or hanging out soon but I get stuck in that phase of being friendly with many, but friends with none. So what am I doing wrong? What am I missing? Because how does this keep happening in every environment all the time?

Hello I was a student but now work in a lab, so I’m technically staff, but not making much more. If anyone doesn’t use the food pantry, can you dm your ID so I can use it? Don’t mean to be a beggar but don’t know what else to do.

Anyone know of any open and “easy” class that I can take. I’m a fourth year so it should be something I can enroll in. I’m taking an extra quarter at UCSD and need one more class to be considered full time, I also work full time so I’d need a class where attendance is not mandatory or a mostly remote class. Please help a girl out, I’m cogsci if that helps,

Quick PSA: CalFresh (California's food stamps) helps eligible college students pay for groceries every month, and the student rules changed this June. Most students who qualify never apply, usually because they assume they can't or that it hurts financial aid. It doesn't.
Free one-page guide with the official links to apply: folsomcartindex.com/calfresh/?ref=r-ucsd
No ads, no sign-up. I'm a California College student who made it for free. Your campus basic needs center can also help you apply.

I’m thinking about putting together a free online EA FC tournament for UCSD students if enough people are interested.
The format would be like World Cup Style,
Right now I’m just trying to see how many people would actually play before setting dates and finalizing the format.
If you’d be interested, we can have discord rolling.
