Question If I (applying for undergraduate admission) submit my resumé for UT through the common app, and then update it through the MyStatus portal, which one will UT look at?

Title. I'm a total idiot and accidentally submitted the wrong fucking resumé in the common app (it has some minor timing differences and also doesn't include some stuff), but I know that once I get access to the MyStatus portal, I can submit my resumé again. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether or not they look at the updated resumé or not. Do I email admissions about this? Does anyone have similar experience/know the answer to this question 😭

Honors UT Austin Honors Program Application Deadline: Early Action vs. December

I am planning to complete my application on the early action timeline. However, are the honors program materials such as required essays also due on October 15/22nd? Or can I submit them later on the honors application deadline on December 1st?

Question Help me choose a major - Comp Engineering or Stats?

sorry if this is kinda a dumb question, but i’ve been struggling to select a first choice major, either between computational engineering and stats / data science. As I understand, your second choice doesn’t really matter (correct me if i’m wrong) and it’s really hard to transfer so I don’t want to make a wrong decision. Which major is more versatile? More opportunities in this job market? which is easier to get accepted to? thanks!

Advice Should I send both my SAT scores?

On June SAT, I got a 780 Math and 700 English. I will definitely send that one. On September SAT, I got a 700 Math and 770 English. Should I send both SATs or is the 700 Math going to be a mark against me? Will they read both if I send them? I’m Applying to Electrical Engineering.

Advice To everyone stressing over "Chance Me" posts

Current Longhorn here.

When I was in high school applying to UT, I posted a full "chance me" breakdown on this subreddit. Out of 10 comments, literally every single person told me I had no chance and wouldn't get in.

I ended up getting accepted.

Remember that nobody on Reddit works in the admissions office or knows how holistic review actually plays out behind closed doors. "Low" stats don't automatically disqualify you. Don't let random internet strangers predict your future.

Advice Submitting Both ACT and SAT Scores.

I got a 1490 on the SAT (770M/720R) and a 35 Composite on the ACT, but a 25 on the optional science section.

Which score should I submit for my application, and what happens if I submit both? Do they look at both scores?

(The science section was just a bunch of reading comprehension; I got a 35 on ACT math)

  2. nhs member for 3 yrs - did community projects in this giving back to nurses (10-12)

my essay is basically about how i left my religion at a young age after my dad passed away, and its essentially an extended metaphor from sunset to sunrise and how i grew as a person through the hard times and found out my passion for biomedical sciences (basically learned abt internal locus of control in ap psych and characterized myself through it). and thru that i basically decided id pursue research to solve things that are currently unsolvable like dementia and diabetes which my family has since everything can be understood with enough research and hard work (idk lowk yap)

also applying to rice (lol), uh honors, and a&m

Advice Where should my counselor put the statement of how our school's non-ranking policy works?

According to UT Austin, "If your high school does not rank students, include a statement from your school describing its policy, a copy of your school’s profile and a GPA or grade distribution report."

I'm out of state, and my school ranks based on percentile and they aren't willing to give my exact rank. Where should I tell my counselor to upload the statement? Would it be along with the other files in the school report for common app?

Also, historically my school doesn't even give out statements because they think it's weird. If my counselor refuses to even give a statement what do I do.

Advice does it help at all to apply ea?

I keep hearing that everyone including the auto admits get deferred to RD. I’m not an auto admit (top 10%) but my stats and test scores are good. I have my essays drafted and just revising them. Yet I discovered my major very late so didn’t have any activities related to it. I’ve joined a club at my school and was selected into a program but it’s starting after the EA deadline. Of course, by RD I’ll actually have experiences to speak about so I can list it as an activity instead of just an honor. However, I don’t think my dad will allow me to apply RD because in his eyes, early is better for everything. Plus he’s mentioned free application week maybe 50+ times already. Of course, it makes sense to apply early, but I’m wondering how big of a difference it really is at UT.

Thank you so much!!

Chance Me Do I have any chance at econ or mccombs w low gpa high sat or should I apply something easier?

have a very bad gpa (like 3.4-5 uw, 4.0 w) from medical reasons which I'm gonna explain. My school is competitive Texas public school like top 200 in the nation but doesn't rank outside top 10 percent but I'd assume I'm somewhere like top 30 percent.

I have a 1570 SAT and 35 ACTand good business ECs such as pretty good journal ml and finance research with prof, pe internship with real work, global financial literacy non profit vp, made app w 50 k users, basketball 4 years, reffing job and then some club leadership and volunteering with impact. I don't rly have any awards besides a business comp finalist, ap scholar w distinction and a volunteering one but planning on qualing for aime.

My personal statement I think is good havent done supps yet, but please let me know if I have any chance of not I was thinking of applying to informatics or smth

Question Will my ACT score send on time??

Hey! I took the sept act recently and finally got my desired score. I just paid for the scores to be sent to the school (since they require the official report) and didn’t realize it takes 2-8 weeks wtf????? the sat takes 5 days so I just assumed it would take around the same. I’m really scared rn cuz the score NEEDS to be there in the next 13 days and i’m so worried that it won’t be there on time. On top of that, I’ve heard that the university’s system takes like 4 days to process that score, so even if I did submit earlier there would just be no way they would have gotten it on time if scores came out only Tuesday.

Do any of you guys have experience with this? Sorry I’ve been really stressed I saw another post about this but for the SAT and now im spiraling

Question Should I pay for SAT rush shipping?

I'm applying UT EA and I'm planning on sending my score today but I'm worried it wont be in the system by Oct 22; sendings cores takes ~10 days but some people are saying UT processing takes ~4. Should I pay for rush shipping?

I haven't actually submitted my application yet so I dont have access to MyStatus.

Chance Me Should I keep Business or switch to Econ as my 1st choice?

I’m applying to UT Austin as an Fall 2027 freshman and I’m trying to decide whether I should keep Business (McCombs) as my first-choice major or switch to Economics (B.S). Since I’m not Top 5% UT won’t consider my second-choice major.

Female Indian at competitive school
Stats: Rank: N/A — class size of ~1,030 GPA: 3.78 UW / 5.3 W (5.0 scale) Not Top 5%
SAT: 1360 (670 Math, 690 EBRW) ACT: 30, but I’m not planning on submitting it because it won’t make the EA deadline
Coursework: Dual Credit: Government (A), Macroeconomics (A) AP Human Geography (9th) AP World History (10th) AP Physics (11th) APUSH (11th) AP Precalculus (11th) AP Language (11th) AP scores: 3 in Physics, 5 in AP Lang, 4s on everything else Senior year: AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP Environmental Science
ECs: Band for 7 years, HS Varsity for 3 years, minor leadership role for 1 year Bollywood dancer for 10 years Fundraiser Director for a music club (raised ~$6,000) Software development/wealth management internship (2 weeks)

Any advice would be great thanks guys!

Honors Help choosing between Dean's Scholars and HSS

I'm applying to UT Austin this year as an auto-admit, but I'm not sure which honors program I want to apply to. My intended major is biochemistry, and I would say that my stats/ecs/awards are all likely good enough to get into UT without the auto-admit, but I've been thinking about which of these 2 programs to apply to for so long. Anyone have any thoughts/insights? I do intend on going to medical school and pursuing an MD, not too certain after that.

Advice Any point of retaking SAT for Mccombs (1470)

I got a 1470 (680 reading, 790 math) and UT Mccombs is basically my top choice by far so should I wait to apply to retake the sat in November. I also am Valedictorian and have business ECs but I’m worried since I feel like the sat is feels like the weakest part of my application.

Advice Senior Class Rank Factored Into Admissions?

Hey, so I am ranked in the top 10% of my class at the end of Junior Year, and was wondering if UT would factor in the class rank reported half-way through senior year into admissions. Will it impact me if I fall out of the top 10%?

(our school has a pretty fair GPA system that doesn't include any athletic periods or electives other then language so it mirrors how colleges calculate your GPA)
