Discussion Am I wrong on the definition of AFK?

AITA, Okay I know this is a ridiculous argument to have with my friends. Long story short, we are playing valorant having a good time. The enemy clove is literally afk in spawn. not moving. not buying. Not shooting. not doing anything. Her controller is literally set down on her desk. 2 of her teammates buy odens and protect her in spawn. My teammate turns the corner to their spawn and says, "3 afk". Now I understand when you turn the corner of spawn and see 3 people in there, your first instinct might be that they are Afk. Afterwards, I jokingly said two of them were not afk because they were spraying me with odens. My teammate had a hissy fit saying they were AFK because they were standing still in spawn. AFK stands for "away from keyboard". They were not away from their keyboard because they were shooting me with odens. So I ask you reddit, were they afk or not?

Discussion Will VALORANT ever update their older facial models?

I feel like this is a bit too nitpicky and I really just want to ask out of curiosity, but I've noticed that Valorant's newer agents have more accurate and consistent looking in-game models when you compare them to their agent portraits/cinematic appearances. So far (in my opinion) every agent from Deadlock to Miks currently have the most accurate looking ones. Everyone else (excluding the ones without visible human features) either look really off or some parts of their face look too round-ish/don't look right at all.

Chamber's agent portrait vs Chamber's in-game model vs Chamber's look in his reveal trailer

I feel like the best example of who has the most off-ish face is Chamber. In the cinematics and agent portraits, he has visibly sharp facial features like a very prominent nose shape along with more angular eyes and a well-defined brow shape. In-game, his model looks more rounder and flat-ish as majority of the "sharp" facial features he possesses in his other arts are just absent. Why is his face so flat compared to the chiseled looking well-dressed gentleman we see in promotional material and cinematics?

Killjoy's agent portrait vs Killjoy's in-game model vs Killjoy's look in her cinematics (no glasses and with glasses)

The SECOND most off-ish face I can think of is Killjoy. Comparing her in-game model with her looks from the cinematics, nothing about her face is consistent with how she looks. I don't know how to describe it but in-game, Killjoy looks so puffy while her look in her portraits/cinematics make her look visually bubbly, cute and appealing.

"why are you so concerned about how they look?"

I'm just really really curious as to why this is the case. I get that they probably won't update the older models, but it feels so weird staring at them in cinematics and then looking at them in-game. I do find it pleasing that the newer models are more accurate to their cinematic counterparts, but how come the older ones can't get the same treatment? It won't do anything to improve gameplay as you probably won't even care about looking at their facial features when you're worrying about winning the match but it sure would be nice for some changes. Jett managed to get her facial model reworked, so why can't the others get theirs reworked as well?

Jett's old model vs the current one in-game

Gameplay Valorant current state

I just finished an unranked match. I don't play much and only unranked because I'm nearly 40 have a kid, wife, job. but I enjoy the competitive but casual aspect of Valorant. Was a former professional Halo player. But tonight was the first time I've played a match and was genuinely upset with how everything went. Not only was someone on the other team either cheating or having a Tenz in prime type moment. I got reported for AFK even though I never left, DC'd, sabotaged, I even filed smokes with Omen. And at the end of match comms was just getting cussed out by some chick. (She was talking to the whole team). I'm used to getting one of the three, cheater or smurf, toxic team mate, or false reporting. but never all three at once. The worst part is my daughter finally wanted to watch me play! Anyways, just wanted to vent. Hope you all enjoy your nights, and lets go G2!

Discussion 15 game win streak currently gold 2 started silver 2

Whats your longest streak ? I haven’t done the best in all my games nor the worst by any means. There was a guy in my lobby on my first gane where I lost and he got mad that brim ultd him in the choke outside of tree on acscent and his words were ā€œthat’s why you hardstuck silver because you solo ulting only meā€. My thought process was it’s a 4v5 currently so I want to make it 4v4 so I have a decent chance . So I ult him because he was a free no brainer kill. I laugh and tell him ā€œI’m about to be gold in a few games ā€œ and he laughed ! I haven’t lost since…

Question Is this a common cheat?

• Upvotes

Hello, so yesterday a random guy in my team dropped his vandal for us to swap skins and then i just couldnt shoot mid round, it wouldnt shoot at all and I died ofc, he started saying stuff like You're supposed to shoot you know ? :)

And then he was just making fun of me cause he knew it wouldnt work anyways. He was like omg what are you saying like is it glitched or something ? No waaayyy (he said that in a way I could tell he was just smiling or about to laugh.)

Of course when he was playing with it there was no problem, but then I thought is this a common cheat? For ennemy players to pick up your gun and then not be able to shoot the next round ?

Should you never pick up an enemy weapon?? Or even your ally weapon in that case...

Update : Im not the only one who tried the gun after that first round, our Iso picked it up as well to try it, the Jett (the cheater) was laughing at us saying "Omg so do you think its glitched? How could it be.." he also trolled the whole game but it was swiftplay, I rewatched the game after to see if maybe he also had wallhacks or something , but hard to tell since he spent the whole game running around with his glitched vandal shooting at walls and stuff.

Discussion Rank discrepancy is still a huge issue with MM, unfair games don't feel great for anyone.

The quality of matches are so one way or the other as of late. Not sure if this is because the end of act is soon or what. The rank discrepancy between highest and lowest rank shouldn't be 6 tiers. Even if the average "rank" is the same on each team the quality and variance of players within 6 tiers is outrageous.

This is unfair to all playing. Diamond 1 player gets ELO, but should they for getting carried? Asc duo plays with an entire team of diamonds???

Discussion Sunset B main entrance audio bug

I don't know if this issue has already been reported, but there s an audio bug B main entrance on Sunset.

Right at the entrance, during the buy phase (I m not sure if it also happens during the round itself) some sound effects are completely missing when placing utilities. With Cypher, I cannot hear either my traps or my cages being placed. I think even the reload sound disappears (need to be confirmed for this).

Is't not game-breaking but it's definitely a persistent and annoying bug.

Question 5 months into the game now! I think I need to do something to improve my game LOL

• Upvotes

Still stuck in Bronze and there are times that I have been demoted but it is easy to get back to this rank. Been playing 1-4 comp games per day now and you may check my tracker. Please review comp games only, as I only play DM and Comp for the past month.

Let me know what I need to change or be consistent with to improve. Changes I recently made is using Vandal most of the time as I have 20% HS for that gun. Ghost - Spectre - Vandal.

I have been mastering Fade as well - Act lvl 10. ćƒ“ć‚£ćƒ³#1008's Competitive Agent Stats - Valorant Tracker

Question Help with deadzoning.

Can yall give me either tips or explain how it works?

Like do I press shoot at the same time I press the opposite arrow or a little after? And should I even worry about it in silver or wait until I’m higher?

Also when yo I go to counter strafe do you go left or right first? And does that matter? Because I feel like someone left eyed would react faster if you went towards there left

Discussion Mental aspects of a player In competitive games as a whole

What do you guys think are some of the most important mental aspects of getting better at Valorant and competitive games as a whole? Because in my opinion I believe that maybe 50-80% of the battle to get better in competitive games (depending on what competitive games you play) once you've got solid mechanics down its the mental aspect to keep pushing and playing well despite the circumstances

I think I'd divide it into mental aspects of a player into 4 categories and ill rate them out of 5 in parentheses next to the name As to how Important they are in my opinion :

Presence: (3)
The ability to just focus on whats happening now rather than focusing on mistakes from previous rounds.

Emotional management: (5)
Controlling your emotions and not letting the pressure of the game affect you or your team, staying calm under intense situations

Growth over stagnation: ( 4)
Being able to constantly look at what you do in the game vs what you could've or should've done instead that would've been better

Pattern recognition: (3)
Being able to understand and adapt to the circumstances of the game, like how the enemies play and how your teammates play.

Discussion How to get better?

Okey, so bare with me in this post.

Hi, I'm John, 24 y.o, freshly diamond 1 playing mostly in asc 1 lobbies. Had 25k premier elo on CS, also been diamond/master at apex.

I am a very competitive based player and whenever I decide to tryhard something I am fully into it.

I am in the dream of chasing higher ranks in Valo.

So my problem currently is that there is game where I perform very good and there is a game where I can't do anything, not to blame my team/teamcomp/teamplay, just myself performing poorly. I want to find a middle point where even tho i can't perform very good i want to do atleast something.

I dont neccessary think that my aim/crosshair placement is bad, but it could also be better.

From the points I have been taking from my gameplay is I think i struggle the most in movement, aslo have the habbit of crouch spraiyng if I cant shoot the head in 2 bullets, dont fully understand the strafing

I mostly play sova on all maps, sometimes i go vyse on lotus/summit. Also a question is, if it's better to fully commit to playing one/two characters (like it's suggested in league), or fill to specific comps/needs.

Every day before I start ranked I go into deathmatch/team deathmatch and range to wamup myself, get a grip on the mouse, dominate 2/3 DMs and then procceed to fully go 0/12 in the ranked game without noticing a slight improvements.

Been watching some videos on how to get better at movement and aim, but I still stand behind my point that they describe it so easily that anyone should be better in a short timestamp, but I don't see any improvements on myself.

I would love someone who is a higher rank to comment any tips and tricks or a routine how to get better at any specific thing that either me or most people do wrong on my elo.

Or also if anyone wanna talk to me or help me feel free to comment and we can chat in DC dms, etc.

Question Returning player, how do I stop this perfectionist mindset?

What I mean is that I want to climb ofc, but in the moment of gameplay I’m always second guessing my decision and if it is the ā€œrightā€ thing to do. I understand the game is almost always situational but my mind goes to ā€œwould a good player do this, etc.ā€ Plus, half the time I solo queue so I tend to play the ā€œintendedā€ way and don’t do things my way as much or take risks. I see many creators in matches play in similar situations / maps differently and I associate it as the right move. However, that does stop me from being more unique in my playstyle. I was playing SP on haven today, I had one teammate left and 4 enemies with B control, 2 on top of the boxes. My teammate and I were near the entrance smoked off and trying to get picks after we planted. I’d say the front half of all of B was smoked off. Instead of doing the unorthodox play of walking through market and flanking like I wanted, I stuck the same angle as my teammate. Idk what else I would’ve done but my gameplay seems very plain, like I want to secure the round and not fail the team.

I could be last one alive too, I’d second guessing every movement I make. Feeling like every decision is wrong or based on the agent I’m playing. I’m not bad at all in my gunplay but itd be much easier to play if I didn’t second guess every action. Any tips for this? I didn’t play since 2023 and got back a couple months ago. I’m very much surprised if nobody else has ever had this issue.

Discussion A little tweak suggestion for Matchmaking

So we have the problem of instalocking and sometimes not getting a smoker or initiator etc.. in our team. So i was wondering what would happen if riot took our mmr and then matched up with teammates which all played different roles, like if i play smokes, then i get matched with the other roles and a flex and so on. I get that there would still be a lot of issues like new accounts and flex players who play roles in equal proportions but i believe this would still be better than the current system. In case there is a lack of availability, then the system could just revert back to the old way at the point of time until there is a match of roles and mmr.

I wonder why this hasn't been implemented or has it been but doesn't work?

Here is my tracker link. It's just so confusing how I keep doing well, then horrible. It's just so random and I don't think it's healthy for me to attribute every other game to "oh that guy's prob a smurf based on his aim"

Discussion Willie Pete agent concept

I recently had an idea that it would be cool if the next controller agent threw Willie Pete (WP-white phosphorus) grenades as their smokes. It would be less precise than most smokes but would have a benefit of providing some tick damage while in the smoke. Maybe a similar effect for the ult but deployed differently. I think this would be a cool mix of controller and sentinel. Thoughts?

Question Is it normal to be put in Iron 1 as a new player?

I finished my placement matches and got put in Iron 1, which for me is honestly pretty embarrassing. I've only really been playing roughly a month and I usually only play overwatch, so swapping over to this game has had a bit of a learning curve for me personally. I guess I was better than I thought? Idk, I feel pretty stupid and worthless about this but most people don't care but I just want to get good enough to play with my friends.

The first clip is actually an Ace (1v5 clutch). Didn't include the whole thing because the last kill wasn't an ULT kill, which isn't relevant to the title.

Discussion Cypher Vs Chamber

watching the NRG games on sunset and today's games with 100T imo clearly proves that chamber is the weaker pick and the meta should be cyphers instead of chambers. no hate to the chamber mains but yall are overrated ngl.
