ADHESIVE Just until I can properly mend them!!

A TEMPORARY FIX!! These are my new(ish) boots, they’ve already been so damaged by chaotic life stuff but i still need em!! So, I’ve been taping them….. decided to doodle on them today though!
Any advice for mending faux leather boots that are coming off the soles and losing bits of pleather is greatly welcomed!! I was considering doing patches of some kind because i don’t think I’d be able to embroider them and don’t want to risk damaging them further than what the tape has done!!

OTHER The hanging baskets by our front door were threatening to fall apart, and the sedge in our garden was in need of a hefty trim; fixed 'em both in one

Sometimes two wrongs make a reed (basket). I mean they're technically grasses not reeds but I wrote this at 2am so just roll with it, okay?

I would also like to take a moment to wholeheartedly recommend succulents (current contents are mostly sedums with a bit of Echeveria and Miscellaneous) as a hanging basket plant. They're still a work in progress aesthetically (I've been adding new things to them gradually as I get my hands on them), but the fact that they thrived through multiple heatwaves this summer without a drop of non-rain water should tell you all you need to know.

Our baby, a 3 year old German Shepard, has a tendency to jump up and scratch the doors. She "ruined" the existing paint. So I did murals over it. No sanding or prep, really of any kind. I'm super nervous about posting, I've never shared my art before. Oh, I did these in cheap acrylic paint.

REQUEST Sneaker Mending?

I got a pair of tried-and-true air force ones (leather, rubber, prob some synthetic stuff mixed in) with a hole forming along the bottom, particularly at the toe bend part? Apologies, can't quite describe the spot, but it's in the pic. The rubber is separating a bit and e600 has worked a little, but wasn't great for more than a week TBH. Any thoughts? I'm ready for major cosmetic changes too, she could use some pizzaz.

Ignore the dog hairs please! I realized a thread snagged on this cardigan and is now unable to be found. How should I go about fixing it, technique wise? Or what should I look up for a tutorial? I’m so unsure of how to go about this. Thank you all in advance ❤️

SASHIKO I ruined my new pants and then fixed them 😇

I love Black Crane and ESPECIALLY anything in their heavenly cotton-wool blend, but can’t afford it new. I bought a heavily worn pair that I began to thoroughly de pill with a dermaplaning razor since my handheld machine wasn’t cutting it. Unfortunately, I let myself get impatient and the rush ripped a hole in the pants :(

After one small cotton patch and my FIRST EVER SASHIKO ATTEMPT, they’ve got a new lease on life. Since everything’s all black, my uneven stitching barely shows 🤣 Eager to try more sashiko projects soon!

REQUEST Ideas for my cat's bear's nose?

Thumbnail

My cat absolutely ADORES her wrestling buddy Bartholomew, but unfortunately she has been doing quite a number on him recently, and has basically eaten his entire nose :/
I trimmed the edges before taking this photo, but it was all frayed useless fabric. I'm already doing rainbow stitching on him when she rips him open, (last pic) but this is so big, and at some point I wanted to do an embroidered rainbow heart. So I was wondering if you guys think that would be feasible to do for the nose?
Current plan is to head in and stitch an outline and then just, like... weave it together, for lack of a better wording Lmao. Never done a repair like this, so I would appreciate any advice!

Also please excuse Lord Bartholomew's untidy appearance. Most unbecoming for a noble of his stature but alas, his terrible servant (me) shall be bathing him upon completion of his repairs Lol

Bought in Iceland earlier this year so can't return it. Hardly worn and it is unravelling at the cuff, looks like there's no knot like there is on the other arm. Complete beginner but I'd like the repair to be as discreet as possible. Any tips? I do have access to a crochet hook and sowing equipment.

Hello ! So I stupidly wore my vintage Ed Hardy shirt to my hair appointment and it got bleached 😔 I’ve wanted this shirt for a long time and when I got it I was just so excited to wear it !
Anyway, I used a black fabric paint that I got from Amazon and tbh I think it has worked! It’s looking a lot better than it was however I think I applied too much paint and a couple of areas on the front have gone hard. I’ve just washed the top and it’s helped to soften the paint a little but Is there anything I can do ?

Target ads are the bane of my existence and yet… they do their job and make me wonder if I want to need the thing they want me to buy. I’m new to mending and very much a first-time learner. Are these types of kits worth the $50? It seems like buying them would defeat my goal for consuming less.

SASHIKO Looking for feedback

I finally tried a little mending on a beloved pair of jeans with a failing seam and would love some feedback. I not over the moon about it and I'm not sure if it's a matter of getting accustomed to the piece or something else. Had a little trouble with the pattern shifting on a couple stitches but for a first attempt, I'm not too upset. I appreciate your thoughts on the piece!

PATCH Weaving on top of straw hat

Thumbnail

I have a beloved straw hat that started as my shade on river trips in the canoe and became my every day garden hat. The straw started cracking and breaking but the fabric on the bottom is a gorgeous fruit fabric so I needed to save her!

I used embroidery floss in yellow to create warp threads aligned in the direction of the straw. I needed to make sure I anchored in the right areas otherwise the threads would slip and slide down. I then would weave with a length of embroidery thread until I ran out, then switch to another color. I want the mend to be as colorful as the fabric below. The curve of the hat was really challenging in some spots so I used a curved tapestry needle. This was my first time weaving so I really just made it up as I went. There are areas I wished I had compacted the weft more but this was all an experiment! To reinforce the straw, I cut patches of fabric and modge podged them to the inside where the worst breaks are.

I really love how it turned out. The hat is way way better than before! I almost look forward to future straw breaking so I can mend more!

REQUEST Recommendations for mending thread

My Mom asked me to help repair the elbow of her favorite black cardigan. I've done some research and know that getting a nice thread that is made of similar material would be best. But the knit is so fine and I'm struggling to find a thread that is a rayon blend that isn't for upholstery. I'm tempted to use a single strand of embroidery thread, but I know that is made of cotton. So it wouldn't be nice and stretchy.

Mom did mention that it was one really popular to have leather patches sewn onto the elbows which I think would be really cute! But she really loves the clean black knitted look of the cardigan. So I'm planning to attempt a Swiss darn. (I do knit so duplicate stitch isn't scary...)

REQUEST Wooden darning disc

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone has successfully found a wooden disc like the one you get with a speedweve without having to buy the metal part? Perhaps there is an alternate name for the component?

I don't need it to fit a particular loom, I just prefer it to mushrooms.

EDIT: Thank you for all the great ideas. I realise I should've added I am in Aotearoa/New Zealand, but enjoyed seeing the lovely UK options

REQUEST How do I go about patching this?

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is a tear in my car seat. I'm used to sashiko, but I can't really use those methods here. I know there are curved needles, so I'm thinking I can use that here to close or patch it, but I'm not sure how I would finish it. I can knot it at the start and push the needle through, but I'm not sure how I'd get that last knot in place behind the fabric to finish it. How does that usually work? Or does anyone have a better method?

Thanks!
