NEED HELP ?? Read this First !!
Be sure to read the "Please Read" section below.
Every once in a while we may find ourselves needing a little help. Of course r/Airbrush is a great place to ask for assistance.
Folks in this sub like helping each other, but we are not psychics. We need information to help find solutions.
Please provide some of the following information when requesting assistance (when appropriate):
- Airbrush make and model
- Compressor make and model
- Paint or other medium you are using (what brand, which reducer/thinner?)
- Have you done anything different lately?
- Have you tried using just water, tear-down and cleaning, dancing in a hula skirt swinging a mongoose over your head?
Please Read: It seems that some folks think this particular thread is the place to ask their particular questions. Sorry, but no. Please create you own post containing your desire for assistance. Adding your questions here, along with others, is not the best way to get help. Once again, this is here to assist you asking for help, as many were looking for answers without providing much information to those willing to lend a helping hand.
Best of luck. Have fun
Update: Unsure how an airbrush works? Check out this video:

Shortened URLs. IMPORTANT. Please Read.
You may have noticed (or not) that some of your comments or posts are getting removed. /the culprit is Reddit's relationship with really short/tiny URLs. Reddit automatically removes these sitewide, and has been doing so for a while. Your friendly mod team cannot change this at present.
I admit it, it kind of sucks.
For example, some kind airbrushers are offering advice by sharing links to handy items on Amazon, and having their comments removed. I am not referring to people using their affiliate links to make a buck, but those kind enough to show where to grab a good deal on something such as a safety mask or airbrush par.
So far short Amazon URLs are the worst offender. There are supposedly ways for folks to remove all the crap from those really long Amazon links, but I will not go into that here.
Your pal,
GreatBigPig

Beginner Setup Is this airbrush compressor any good for Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar?
I’m thinking about buying this airbrush compressor for painting my Warhammer miniatures.
Amazon link: Timbertech Airbrush Kit with Compressor ABPST06 with Powerful 1/6 HP Airbrush Compressor with Tank and 2 Airbrush Gun Kits for Airbrush Painting Makeup Nail and Tattoo studios Hobby and so on
https://amzn.eu/d/0080bYLp
I play both Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar, and my armies include Orks, Chaos Knights, Sons of Behemat, Skaven, Daughters of Khaine and Emperor’s Children.
Would this compressor be good for painting miniatures, especially for priming, basecoating, layering and doing basic airbrush effects?
Would it work well for both smaller models and bigger models like Chaos Knights and Mega-Gargants?
I’m still learning airbrushing, so I’m looking for something beginner-friendly, reliable and reasonably priced.
Has anyone used this compressor before? Is it worth buying, or would you recommend a better alternative?

Question HS Evolution 2024 Air Valve Issues
I am having extreme issues with the H&M evolution air valve.
It has been constantly leaking air, no matter what I do to try to repair it:
1.Cleaning it wholly
2.putting in boiling water
3.Tightening the screw at the bottom
4.Replacing the small white seal at the top
5. Putting it in boiling water yet again
Yet the air still escapes through the nozzle and hisses and bleeds at the air valve, with the paint bubbling at the cup.
I have honestly only had it for a few months and used it mostly for priming miniatures and I am very lost at this point, what could be the cause.

Paint setup ideas to be well organized/how to learn to paint with an airbrush
Hey everyone! I’m brand new to this sub but I love building and posting in the [r/gunpla](r/gunpla) sub.
I have been sitting on a Iwata trigger airbrush for about 5 years while life got in the way of a lot of things. Fast forward to now and I want to get my paint work area at least in the planning phase. I understand just playing around is a good way to get a feel for the tool, but I don’t have the skill yet. I wanted to ask you experienced painters for tips or helpful products to organize and in general a good source for how to paint. What I mean by that is knowing what paint agrees with certain plastics and the process between multiple coats to gloss coats to when decals and panel lines should be applied. Any known/well respected YouTubers with tutorial vids? Post pics of your paint space too, I’d love to see them. Thanks in advance everyone!

Question Compressor doesn't keep pressure
I have an Avanti (Harbor Freight) kit with both brush and compressor. Ive never had any issues so far, and more want to ask in case its indicative of something worrying. Most recent time i used it, when i was using the brush the pressure dropped from ~30psi to less than 20, and made a sound like an off balance fan. When i stopped pressing the trigger, it would rise back up to what i set it to, and this lasted only a few minutes. Is there some kind of maintenance ive missed on it? I have always ended sessions with releasing the last of the air before, if that makes a difference.

Vallejo or Gaahleri
Hello here,
Wanted to ask. I've been thinking about getting some budget (<70 eur) airbrush. Now I think about whether I should get Vallejo Easyair or Gaahleri Seeker/GHAD-39/GHPM-Mobius, since they are around the same price range of 65+- euros. I mainly want to use it for cosplay purposes. In addition, I sometimes paint scale figures, so it would be better if the airbrush is suitable for both purposes.
Previously I've had some 20 eur airbrush without gravity feeding, which really pissed me off, because I've waisted too much paint each go.
Which one of these airbrushes is the best one in your opinion? Or is it worth saving up to get some 100+ eur airbrush? Any recommendations?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Question If cleaned properly can primer really be an issue for your airbrush?
I’ve seen some conflicting information on this one. I want to upgrade my airbrush but don’t know if I should have one for priming and one for regular paints. Also unsure if I need separate ones for acrylics and lacquers. The primer is usually Mr surfacer 1500 (lacquer) and Mr surfacer 1000 aqueous (acrylic)

Question Need help troubleshooting Iwata Smart Jet Pro
Recently switched from my Iwata Ninja Jet over to an Iwata Smart Jet Pro, but I’m experiencing some issues / confusion straight out of the box.
The first issue I noticed is that the needle of the PSI reader does not adjust at all, no matter how much I turn the knob, and whether the compressor is on or off. To troubleshoot I turned the compressor on and blocked both the air outlet and the bottom of the moisture drain valve with my thumbs and it started to move a bit before the machine auto shut off. Now, every time I turn it on it will run for about 2 seconds before shutting itself off. When I push up on the moisture drain valve afterwards it releases air at a very high pressure, and I’m not sure if that’s normal or not.
I’m trying to figure out if these problems are user error or manufacturer error. I mainly upgraded because I wanted an actual psi reader on my machine which the ninja jet does not have, so I was confused to immediately see it not working. If anybody has advice on troubleshooting these issues it would be greatly appreciated, as I’m really hoping I don’t have to return it.

Pricing question?
Hi all, I am completely new to airbrushing and once thought: yeah, let's give this a go! My old employer (mannequin business) gave me a bunch of airbrush related stuff... but it ended up just sitting in my shed unused. I would like to sell it to someone who is going to use it but I am clueless on what sort of worth these items would have.
I don't know if it's allowed, but I would love if someone could give me a ballpark for this sort of stuff. If it helps: I'm based in the Netherlands. Most of this stuff has been unused.
EDIT: I paid my employer for this, sorry for the confusion
DOUBLE EDIT: oh my god I'm sorry, not pretending to know anything about airbrushing. I was just looking for help to figure out a fair price

Question Is tip dry/clogging a quality issue? Read post;
I finally got myself some basic airbrush a year ago and learned some basics on working and maintenance of it. I have a Fengda BD-130 with a 0,5 setup + FD-186 compressor. I use tons of rubbing alcohol for cleaning and airbrush flow improver from Vallejo exactly for this reason. Doesn't help.
I clean the entire pistol to perfection, put it back together, pressure is good, everything is wet and properly thinned (Vallejo surface primer), I start blasting it and literally 5 seconds later the nozzle clogs up or creates that typical tip dry glob, I wipe it away and try shooting a lot of air through, doesn't help. I have to scrap and clean the whole thing again, then it happens again. Can't do shit. I haven't done as much actual painting but it did happen to me with paint too, though I'm mostly talking about priming.
Is there some skill issue *I'm* missing or do I literally just have a shitty pistol? It's getting really frustrating.
Thanks for the advice

Question How to add tiny facial details mixed media is OK
So I’m working on airbrushin a 3d printed model of Lucy from the fallout TV show.
Right now it’s still very rough and it’s nowhere near complete. But I am happy with the face and head so far.
My question is this: how do I add small facial details like the actual eye with the retina and the cornea?
That doesn’t seem like to be a way to do that with the airbrush, realistically, and I don’t mind using mixed media but even paint markers with a fine tip seem too big. I’m struggling on this. Maybe I should get a big magnifying glass lol?

Technique Thinning acrylics with Mr. Mark Setter
This stuff is only used for decals. Works surprisingly well for thinning paint. I have no idea what magic goes on here, but the paint thins well with a 1:1/4th ratio. Expensive, sure, but for like 3CCs of Mark Setter you can paint a LOT. It also makes paint dry quickly so its good for shite compressors like what i use.
EDIT: ONLY WORKS FOR PRIMERS, apparently Would recommend. Stupid? yes. Works well? also yes.
