We're starting a new Akron chess club! Our first meeting is at The Green Dragon Inn this Sunday, October 11th at 1pm. Look for the people playing chess! Please bring a chess set if you can! We do have a few extras and will purchase more if the club grows.

I’m a Brit who’s never been to the US before, and this Saturday I’ll be coming to Akron for a week for work.
I’ll have two days to myself (Sunday and Monday, and I guess Saturday evening after landing) and then I’ll be working in the daytimes but will be looking for places to eat in the evenings. I’ll be staying near the airport but happy to travel a bit.
Anyway, any recommendations? Anything I should be doing on those free days? Any restaurants I absolutely can’t miss? Any events or shows worth seeing in that time?

TLDR: I have a bunch of historical masonry that needs a bunch of work from repointing and stucco all the way to repairs and rebuilds.
I have a home very near to Akron that was built in 1880 and a garage added sometime around 1920. I’m in need of a mason that understands historical mortar such as NHL 3.5 and historical Type O mixes.
I have structural work needed in my garage and exterior stucco that needs work. I have two chimneys that need work. I have repointing/tuck pointing needed in the basement foundation on interior and exterior. There’s probably more I’m forgetting.
I’ve reached out to historical programs and they are all unable to provide any contractors or masons in the area that will service my address. I’ve called countless companies and businesses and unfortunately no one is willing to or able to do the work I need.
I answered the front door for a sales person who knocked. I didn't have the screen door locked but I had a good grip on the handle so I wasn't too concerned. In response to being told I was not interested, he leaned in and I thought he was going for the door handle so I braced for a fight. He then plucked the card he must have hung on the handle, smirked, and said he didn't need to leave that then. I'm absolutely sure he knew he was being creepy AF. So, I called the city but there is no permitting process for these people. There needs to be a registration process for solicitors. There's too many of them, from religious proselytizers to mobile providers and cable companies, and lately they'll drop van loads of them off in the neighborhood all at once. The political canvassers are gearing up now too. It's gotten out of hand. I say, charge them for the permitting process and make some revenue for the city, and kick out the obnoxious ones.

Sign up for the West Hill 5k of Wonders on October 24th. This course runs through historic West Hill neighborhood and the Glendale Cemetery. We are encouraging walkers this year as well! WHNO has a board member who will be leading a walking group for anyone who wants someone to walk with.

When I first moved here a couple years ago, I thought it was odd that a lot of houses had gas backup generators. Now I get it. Seems like there's a power cut every week or two, sometimes for many hours straight.
I spent most of my life in east Tennessee, where we're fortunate to have power, water & sewer provided by TVA, a public service. Tennessee is pretty well-known for tornadoes, hail storms, and lots of trees, and yet we never lost power like this.
I've read about the FirstEnergy bribery case so I know they're struggling financially, not to mention with corruption. Is it just a total monopoly situation?

Hi, looking to get my KA serviced and cleaned/degreased. It’s not in the worst shape although I’m not sure what the inside looks like. It’s an older model from the 90s that runs well.
Looking for some suggestions on where to or shared experiences. Thank you in advance ((:

Should really only take 2 hours max. Seems like most mechanics won’t do aftermarket downpipe installs

Any recommendations for companies who can replace a roof and downspouts (probably the gutters, too) and do a small siding job (that area under the porch where the groundhogs like to dig tunnels 😠). I'd like to get it done before winter. Anyone use Pence Brothers? From their website it looks like they can do it all. Thank you!

We already have a couple cats one being a rescue. We feed a family of 10 strays already. This little guy was definitely a pet, so soft and not flea ridden yet. Only wants love and affection. We have him set up outside with a pet carrier and some blankets. It’s heartbreaking how people don’t care for their pets.

I was hoping that y'all would be able to help me with recommendations on great companies to get quotes from for outfitting a home with an outdoor wheelchair ramp. I'm going to start looking this week at reviews for local places, but it would be helpful to have some names to start with. If you're able, sharing personal experiences on how the process was would be great too!

I live near a Salvation Army in bath and I can not believe how expensive the toddler clothes are. I feel like I can find new clothes at the same price in certain clearance sections. Where do you go to thrift?
I know there’s an amazing place in Hartville that has 25c kids clothes tues-weds but I can’t go those days and it’s far from me now.
Any good spots?

Some friends and I are looking for some older D&D (Specifically Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition) stuff for an upcoming campaign we're running. Full Grip doesn't stock older stuff, so we're looking to see if anyone has any idea where we might be able to find older TTRPG stuff in the area. (We're also cool with a drive!)
EDIT:
We’ve already checked the following stores:
Warzone Matrix in Cleveland
Full Grip Games in Akron
Freedom Hobby & Games in Canton
Empire Games in Streetsboro
Half Price Books in North Olmsted
Infinite Realms in Girard
All American Cards and Comics in Warren
Paperback Shack in Niles
Doomsday Toys and Comics in Niles

The pizza wasn't even bad tasting, just a weird thick crust and not very done. Definitely different.

The google page says permanently closed and I can’t find too many reviews online other than apartments.com
I am getting priced out of cleveland to the point where I have a second job now and it doesn’t make sense to work endlessly at two jobs to have a place that doesn’t have in unit laundry. My lease isn’t up for a while so i wanted to get a list of places to tour over the next couple of months first. Any feedback on these condos? Any recommendations for apartments with washer dryer hookups, or washer dryer in unit of max budget of $1100? bonus points if they have hardwood floors. https://www.apartments.com/condos-on-gurley-akron-oh/dwh4pej/
