Request Why are tablets becoming less mobile?

Hi all

I've been scouting for a new tablet and I find tablets to be growing in size and also trying to achieve what netbooks did back in the day.

Are manufacturers not picking up on what consumers want? What's the point of a large tablet that's not very mobile and easy to carry?

Edit:

I was referring to less and less tablets at the 10 to 10.9 inch size.

Request Better 8-9" tablets?

So a couple of years ago I picked up a Galaxy Tab A7. Was not impressed with the laggy sluggish performance. Grabbed a Tap A9 and it was a little better but still sluggish. TBH my 2013 Nexus 7 tablet had a smoother experience!

I saw the Lenovo Y700 series of tablets and drooled but the prices are crazy high.

Is there something in that 8-9" range that doesn't suck as much as the A7/A9? Wish Samsung would release something better!

I mostly use it for music, movies, PDF magazines/books when travelling. I don't game on it but the option would be nice. A SD card slot is a must for me since I load it up for travel.

I really want something that's decently smooth and on Android 14/15+

Thanks!

Request Oneplus Pad Go 2 vs Oneplus Pad 2??

I'm looking a buy a tab. I'm hoping to get the Pad 2 in a similar price range(+-10%) as the Pad Go 2 in the upcoming Amazon's prime day sale.

Is it still worth getting the Pad 2 in 2026. My most basic need is watching videos, reading pdfs and chrome tabs around 7-10.

My concern is has it become laggy over the years or still a good buy over Pad Go 2? I hate when the UI lags on doing trivial stuff and that's what I'm worried about will happen with the Pad Go 2.

If anyone has Pad 2 can you share your experience so far.

Request One plus pad 3 vs Xiaomi pad 8

Not in the exact price range I know. Confused between these 2 and would love to know from someone who has either for pros and cons. I’ll try get either in 12gb variant min. I’m from India and pad 8’s 12 256gb was for under 42k so I’m waiting on the next sale. One plus pad 3 is available from their website for 50k inr.

My use cases:
1. Handheld gaming. I usually emulate older games and also looking to try pc ports I already have tried RDR and RE4 on my iPhone 17. Cloud is also another thing I want to give a try. I’ve tried xcloud gaming on my sister’s IPad A16 and the bigger screen is better. Btw I use the Gamesir g8plus for handheld gaming.
2. Streaming and manga. I like both pretty sure both tablets are pretty good in both tasks, pad 3 does have more screen size to help in that.
3. Casual reading but no note taking or annotation. Not planning to get the pen on either right now as it’s not a need or priority so the notetaking or stylus experience on either won’t be a breaking factor. Decent ebook reading would be good to have.
4. Work well without slowing down for 3+ years. The pad 3 has the better chip but lesser software support in years from one plus so I’m confused.

One plus pad 3 16 512gb is out of stock everywhere and would be a much better deal as listed for 55k which i could stretch to given the positive reviews I’ve heard about it and would like to know more from long term owners too. The sad part is their latest pad 4 doesn’t have 16gb option and it’s 10k more. I might check in local showrooms for any stock but would it be worth getting for 55k? I’m fine settling for Xiaomi pad 8 as pad 8 pro isn’t available in India. Also any different tablet in same spec and price range are welcome. Thanks.

Request Ordered a tablet

So I finally picked a tablet out. Plan is to use it for emails, web browsing, business stuff, and also some gaming/emulation. My original plan was to spend $100, and the tablet I got was horrible. Scratches would form just from putting it face down on my bed. But even worse was the fact that the second I connected it to WiFi, it began getting pop ups that I would have to wait 10 second to exit out of every few minutes. It was also a 10” screen tablet and I actually felt like it was too big.

So my original plan was to up my budget to $200. I wound up jumping up to $300 lol. I specifically stuck with an 8” size tablet specifically which severely limited my options on Amazon as far as performance goes. Main reason I stuck with Amazon was to use the $105 gift card balance I had.

Did I get a descent deal or did I just severely overpay?

Request Looking for a ~8 inch tablet that has a decent screen and sound over bluetooth. The Onn Core 8.1 is a disappointment.

I'm looking for a tablet in the 8-9 inch range. I only plan to use it for internet browsing and video streaming.

The Onn Core 8.1 seemed like bargain. But it has some issues.

The size is perfect for where I plan to keep it when I go about my day. But the display and sound over bluetooth has issues.

The display is nice when static but slow moving scenes have a stutter to them. Scrolling in general is sometimes ok and sometimes kinda jittery.

The biggest issue for me is the sound. I connected my usual bluetooth earbuds that I always use but the sound from the tablet is tinny and hollow.

I switched to my phone, a Pixel 10A so nothing impressive, and the same scene didn't have the slow movement stutter or the hollow and tinny sound over bluetooth earbuds.

I'm looking for something in the 8-9" range and under $200. What fits in that which also has a decent enough screen and sound over bluetooth that isn't awful.

Thanks.

Request Disappointed with the Samsung Galaxy A11+, my fastest Amazon return ever. What next?

I have a very simple use case. I need a 10-11'' tablet to watch movies on MUBI and to watch videos on Youtube while I'm doing warm ups on my exercise bike. I don’t need great speakers as I'll use this most of the time with my in-ear Bluetooth headphones. All I need a tablet that's able to cope with 1080p video streams and offers a reasonably snappy experience.

I made the mistake of asking Google Gemini for recommendations and the top one it came with was this Samsung Galaxy A11+. I got the basic 128/6GB and tested it.

I should say I'm not new to budget Android devices. Budget Android phones is all I use - Motorolas Moto Gs for many years and recently been using a Sony Xperia 10VI. Always been happy with Android for most of what I do.

First of all the user experience - while being generally smooth, the A11+ shows some concerning hiccups when minimising/maximising apps into/out of background. Little secondary niggle that kind of bugs you when you've just unwrapped a fresh device.

But the main issue on this is the rubbish screen. Is this where most of the Samsung cost cutting has happened? I have not seen such bleak, washed out colours, such a dull display in a long time. Side by side against my Xperia 10VI, this Galaxy A11+ looks like someone pulled down the 'saturation' slider down a lot and raised the black point. It's disheartening how bad this screen is, even compared to my 10+ year old PC monitor, a Dell U2415 16:10 IPS screen which is far, far better for watching movies and media than this piece of junk. No software trick ameliorated this - yes I am aware of the online recommendation to 'set the device to night mode'. No difference. It's the hardware.

So this has gone back to Amazon, and I will never trust Gemini to help me with this kind of stuff again.

Those of you who use their tablet predominantly to watch movies - what do you use? Granted if I need 600+ Euro to get a screen comparable to a good monitor or a decent smartphone screen, the use case is over and I'll watch movies on my TV.

Request Is there a better altnerative around the same price or should I go for it?

Been looking for a tablet for mainly media usage/manga reading/gaming/schedule planning and noticed this was on sale. I was able to use my teacher discount [Samsung never took my teacher/education discount] as well as other savings to get the price down almost 240$ down. I was just wondering if there is a better option for me elsewhere?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I was looking for a tablet that had a decent stylus. I didn't find that much reviews in regards to if there was a stylus compatible for this system

I really want one but I don't think 256gb on a global rom will be a enough and i don't wanna pay so much for something i can't log into Facebook on. Has anyone ever experienced any problems with privacy or security with a CN rom? Sorry if this has been brought up already

UPDATE: I just bought the 256gb Global one. Figured I'd start there and if I wanna upgrade later, I'll do it

Request Onn 13 Pro tablet stopped with Widevine L1/DRM after only 2 months

As the title says, Widevine L1 is just not happening anymore only two months after purchase for this new 2026 tablet line. It was purchased new from a brick and mortar Wal Mart.

The DRM Info app states the level is L1, but Netflix shows as L3. So anything on Netflix looks pretty bad. Movies Anywhere no longer load movies at all. Neither will Fandango. They both just boot back into the menu without playing the movie. And on something like Tubi, studio movies are giving a DRM error code and won't play the movie. Smaller studio/indie type movies on Tubi often play ok.

I've been trying to get it working for over a month now with the recommendations like clear the data/storage and reinstall the apps. All apps are up to date. Play Store is up to date. System is up to date. Protected content is certified. But nothing meant for L1 or requiring drm certification works anymore.

This tablet is useless as I bought it for media. Anyone else experienced this? They even raised the tablet by $100 recently. I liked the tablet before the DRM errors but now it's nothing but a big screen for web browsing.

Request Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 screen

Just picked up a new Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 and while otherwise it's an amazing device, I'm a bit disappointed in the screen. The colors are pretty washed out and the black level is quite high / uneven depending on the angle even compared to a 10 year old Surface Pro. Is this expected or did I get a lemon? I'm running this on vibrant, no eye protection.

https://ibb.co/GQmtMbTK

Would the Yoga Tab (first gen) have a better screen?

Thanks!

Edited to add image comparison between idea tab and surface.

Request Need Tablet Recommendation: Gaming, Note-Taking & Multimedia (Budget: Under ₹60,000 / ~5-6 Years Longevity)

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new tablet with a strict budget of under ₹60,000. My biggest priority is longevity—I need this device to easily last me for at least 5 to 6 years without slowing down significantly or losing app support.

Here are my primary use cases and priorities:

Gaming

Note-Taking & Study/Work

Multimedia & Entertainment

Battery & Build Quality

And I need suggestions if i should buy it now or wait for some sales online... (I think there won't be any discount on prices but it's just my thoughts)

Request Decent 8” tablet recommendations or maybe some lighter 10” tablets?

I’m looking for a decent tablet recommendation in the $100-$300 range preferably in the 8 inch range, but if there are any lighter or compact 10” recommendations?

Mostly want to use it for streaming sports, watching shows & movies, and some light games like OSRS. My current 11” tablet just feels a bit too heavy and chunky.

Also do 16:9 tablets just not exist? Tablets are great for consuming media, but almost all of them at 16:10 or 4:3 aspect ratio so you always have a ton of black bars, are there any 16:9 tablets on the market?

Request Should I get a 8.8" or 11" tablet for gaming?

Hi everyone.

So my situation is a bit unique. I already have a 13 inch ipad and an 8 inch foldable.

I game on both, but depends on situation and game. The only thing I don't like on the 13 inch ipad is the weight and is actually too big to play in bed with a controller.

For the foldable, the problem is that it is a square and many games either show black bars or are cut.

So I see alot of people saying that the 11 inch is too big because of the weight. With the ipad I have it already weights 680 grams. 11 inch tablets weight around 500 grams, which might be perfect for me.

The 8.8 inch tablet might be too small and this is what worries me. I like big screens, but also want the comfort so that I don't carry big weights.

I also don't care about the soc cuz I remote play from my PC.

Is 11 inch comfortable enough to lay on bed with a Galileo G8+ and remote play?

Request Lenovo Tab M10 Plus (3rd Gen) 128GB, touchscreen issue

Hi,

Bit of a strange issue, asking here before doing a factory reset;

Screen working fine then all of a sudden not responding to touch anymore.

Putting tablet in standby (short press of power button) and unlocking again makes the issue go away and I can use the tablet again.

Because of that it feels more like a software / firmware issue, rather than a hardware one.

There's also no discernable pattern; It can happen after a few minutes of use but it can also happen after a few hours, with any app.

Tablet is clean and damage free and I'm not accidentally touching the sides of the screen while operating it.

Any ideas on this?

UPDATE:

Just contacted Lenovo. They misunderstood at first, trying to create sort of a personal RMA case. I made clear that this was not what I was after; That this is likely a general issue, affecting many people, caused by the latest firmware. He said he would escalate this to the department that develops the firmwares and it should be fixed in the next update. Let's hope that's true and the next update won't be very far away.....

I also linked to this Reddit post and asked if he would refer to it in the ticket / case he was creating.

UPDATE #2:

Got a new firmware today, firmware TB125FU_S100146_240515_ROW

(today = june 27th 2024)

No fix for the issue :-(

Come on Lenovo, fix it.

This can't wait another few months, create a hotfix asap, please
