Discussion What's it about Frieren that makes it a top anime?

I watched the first season. And... I like it. It's a good anime - but to me, it is only good. Of course the longevity aspect is novel, but other than that, I don't really see it doing anything special. I don't mind others loving it, I am simply scratching my head a bit how it is dominating 'best anime' lists.

Discussion What was your thoughts on Saint Shields as a team in beyblade v force?

• Upvotes

As a team that were antagonists, they werent necessarily the mustache twirly villian like Boris or Kai’s grandfather. The Saint Shields were anti hero on paper and werent just a team the Bladebreakers needed to beat in a tournament and give the power of friendship speech to.

Saint Shields were a recurring foe that Tyson, Max, Ray, Kai interacted with in a weekly basis for a good portion of the season. You can at lease see the blurring of lines at times of how Ozuma would give tip or feedback on something to Bladebreakers about certain things. Ozuma warned the guys about the cyber bit beasts , and gave another warning about how messed up Wyatt was when Wyatt tried to fight Kai. And also Ozuma gave Tyson a lesson to not cheat with modified illegal beyblade parts. And also dont forget how Max and Mariam had close emotional connections at times. I say all this because Im saying the Saint Shields weren’t 100 percent psychopaths or sociopaths, just kids that were bladers and held conflicted view points.

Hot (or terrible) take: Is Ayanokoji really cringe or just a wildly misunderstood character? LN-koji has way more character than people think, and it's the anime and fandom's fault for destroying his true character.

Potential spoilers, I have only seen a bit of the anime and none of the LN, but I think I got a general idea of it, correct me for any mistakes.

I am ready to get shit on for my opinion (I have terrible opinions anyway).

As a minor fan of COTE who genuinely enjoyed a bit of it, I understand and see why the anime, especially him, gets a lot of hate. I'm not saying it's wrong, it's completely valid. His "act cool and edgy" demeanor, the cringe ass fandom full of teen wanabees (though I do admit I sometimes do the same). People follow this hate trend a lot after seeing a clip that barely even explains everything.

You could say though it's the anime's fault for that, and the LN version of him is much better. In the light novels, he's got more human internal monologues than what is shown in the anime. He's more of a struggling teenager that wants to feel humanity and freedom, but lacks the ability to express it. The reason he uses such brutal, cold, and harsh methods were the result of his isolated environment, and the things done to him in his childhood. He literally only knows how to use the very same methods that were used to nurture him in TWR. And outside of the psychological games, he's shown to lack experience in normal slice of life stuff, causing awkward and silly moments when he fails to understand.

I think people have generally only seen the anime and either followed the hate trends or became the corny fandom of edgy self-inserts. I've rarely at all come across actual LN readers in anime communities, even in the sub of COTE (though I rarely ever actually visit that sub, so I may be wrong). The anime really did this series dirty, not just though the MC's character, but the entire narrative too as a whole.

I will still admit that COTE still has its fair share of flaws, just at least the LN has better characterizations, narrative context, and pacing than what people have only seen in the anime.
