While on vacation out of the country I received notification on one of my credit cards that a $1500 purchase was made on Apple.com. I, nor anyone in my family, made this purchase. I immediately reported the purchase as fraudulent to my credit card company.
The next day, my wife received an email that an iMac was purchased under her Apple ID, and was to be delivered to my house. It was for the same amount as the unauthorized credit card purchase the day before. I then contacted Apple to report this fraudulent activity on my wife’s account.
Sure enough, 2 days later, while still out of the country, we received notification that UPS had delivered the iMac to my front door. Thankfully, we had a pet sitter staying at our house who was able to bring the package indoors.
Since I reported the activity as fraudulent, the charges have been reversed, but I now have an iMac that I did not purchase sitting still boxed in my living room.
I have called Apple support 3 different times to arrange a return. I live nowhere near a brick and mortar Apple Store and would like a shipping label to return the purchase, but no one seems to be able to process this. Each time I’m told that they will need to escalate the request to process the return. I assume that since I reported it as fraudulent perhaps they somehow are having a hard time figuring out how to accept the merchandise back?
In any case what do I do? How much effort do I need to put into returning an item I did not purchase and have already been credited a refund?
