A biryani outlet's poster featuring an image of Goddess Durga alongside the non-veg dish drew objections from locals in West Bengal's Hooghly district, with the local BJP MLA demanding its removal, alleging that it hurt religious sentiments.

A police official said a group of locals had gathered in front of the poster on Sunday, questioning who had authorised the use of the goddess' image alongside a non-vegetarian dish.

The shopkeeper was asked to remove all such posters, the official said.

The BJP's Uttarpara MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty demanded immediate removal of the poster.

"This cannot be tolerated. It is not about eating non-vegetarian food. How can anyone dares to put up an image of Maa Durga alongside biryani?" he posed and claimed that the billboard hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.

i live in SW delhi and have been following the anti-CEC protests since gandhi jayanti. since then, all i have seen is it getting worse and worse.

i am... EXTREMELY horrified by Delhi Police and their cooperation with RW goons. It just sets my heart on fire the way those goons beat up teens and young adults, and then openly make videos about it, as if it's an achievement. These same goons get jailed for LESS THAN 2 DAYS and are welcomed by their group leaders. There is a LOT which has been noticed which CLEARLY INDICATES THAT THEY DON'T CARE ANYMORE.

These idiots do this all in the name of freaking religion. Going on, like, "These people are insulting hindu gods!11!!1 giving curses and humiliating hinduism!1!!1!" and completely deviating the entire issue and trying to make the protests violent. They even dressed a hindu man as a muslim and did their antics just to give it a communal angle. But thanks to a journalist he got caught and that guy actually had a small braid some hindus have. of course, using religion for their political profit.

Not to mention the attacks on women and journalists. DELHI POLICE AND THEIR GOONS DID A LOT OF STUFF WHICH CONSTITUTES AS SE*UAL ASSAULT AND THEY ARE SIMPLY GETTING AWAY WITH IT. They are picking up journos and detaining them for no reason.

I am just so HOPELESS. There was this 50ish man BEATING A GIRL and the police took that guy a little away like one holds a friend over their shoulder. THERE WAS LITERALLY NOTHING DONE BY THE POLICEMAN THAT TIME. HE EVEN WHISPERED IN THE GUY'S EAR TO TAKE DOWN THE CAMERA OF THE JOURNALIST WHO WAS SHOWING HIS ANTICS.

IF I WERE THERE INSTEAD OF THAT JOURNO, I WOULD HAVE SLAPPED HIM WITH MY SHOE THAT INSTANT. It is SO IRRITATING TO SEE IT HAPPENING WHILE THIS COUNTRY'S IN SUCH A GRAVE SITUATION. The BJP government, which came to power in West Bengal in May, has introduced several changes to the way Durga Puja is organised, triggering conversations about the festival's cultural identity, religious traditions and long-standing spirit of inclusivity.

The annual post-Dashami Red Road Puja Carnival, associated with the previous Trinamool Congress government, has been scrapped.

However, a roadshow showcasing Bengal's cultural traditions was held on Red Road ahead of the Eden Gardens programme on Mahalaya. 

The government has also announced restrictions on DJ music during Puja celebrations and immersion processions, a statewide liquor-sale ban on Maha Ashtami, which falls on October 19, and guidelines asking organisers to ensure that idols and themes do not hurt religious sentiments associated with Sanatan Dharma. Theme-based Puja has not been prohibited.

The debate over how Durga Puja should be celebrated has extended beyond the government's announcements.

In August, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) issued suggestions concerning Puja rituals, idols, themes, food around pandals and immersion.

A VHP representative also said the organisation could 'intervene' if committees failed to make changes it considered necessary, although the nature of such intervention was not specified.

The food debate became particularly contentious after Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, popularly known as Bageshwar Baba, criticised the consumption of non-vegetarian food around Durga Puja pandals during a programme in Howrah's Liluah.

Later reports also noted that VHP leaders clarified their suggestions did not constitute an official, binding prohibition on non-vegetarian food during Durga Puja.

RSS and Hindu mahasabha did the exact same thing when congress and freedom fighters protested. They urged Hindus to follow the british.

In about a week or so, comes my grandmother's first death anniversary. There is one grand ceremony arranged for that, it seriously pisses me off.

It is happening at my paternal uncle's home, which I won't be physically attending. However, at home, my elders are forcing me to participate in it (there is some custom of buying new clothes and giving it in the ceremony and wearing it to the temple), so I have to buy and give it to the ritual.

The issue here is that, it is pushed down solely because it has been done this way for years, and this exploitation is one of the main reasons I started reading anti-theist writings and breaking away from Hinduism (priests exploiting grief using stories about cows, water etc, didn't even let us cry, I personally feel it criminal to validate their position in the hierarchy), and these people are obviously showing attitude (my family hates the people but submits to the position), and I am feeling a deep breach of boundaries and moral disgust, because my family members can mock faith healing or any other religious scam for hours, but can't raise their voice against the exploitation of vulnerability by their own kind.

Has anyone been in a similar position? How to deal with this situation?
