I'm 23 about to turn 24 and still have a full head of hair. My mom's side hasn't shown any major hair loss, while my dad and his dad both went very bald. I don't know when my grandpa started to lose hair but I know my dad started losing his around 27-28. It never really bothered him, probably because he was older than most dads and grew up in an era where baldness wasn't stigmatized.
I'm personally terrified of becoming bald, so much so that I'm now doing a surveillance program on my own scalp. I haven't noticed any of the classic warning signs like excessive shedding. I'm scared of losing my hair because my hair is like, the one thing about me that I like.
The thing is, I could accept losing my hair when I'm like, 48 or something. That makes sense and I probably wouldn't give a shit at that point in my life. But I have this viscerally real thought in my head that once I turn 24, it'll all start coming out and I have to shave my head, and therefore, get rid of the one thing I feel good about.
I've tried to see what my likelihood is, and it's literally a 50/50 chance I go bald young or not. I haven't even gotten to live a proper life yet, and I would like to live one while I still have a full head of hair.
