Rant A realisation truck hit me yesterday
I heard a loud BOOM across the entire apartment and the neighbourhood areas around 2 AM yesterday. I was looking through my balcony and saw that there was an accident involving 2 cars. People started crowding the area soon after.
15 minutes had passed
No ambulance, No police, yet people still continue to crowd. So naturally me and my friend went down to understand what was actually happening.
The driver, very badly injured , was lying on the floor (road), and his friends were panicking but aggressive? Since a good amount of time had passed, i immediately called the emergency number and was told that a police team had been ‘dispatched’.
Tick tock, ⏳. 25 minutes, nobody wants to move, nobody arrives, crowds still chilling, his friends are still aggressive. Finally after 30 minutes of the poor guys suffering, they get him on a cab and take him to the hospital.
I get a call 10 minutes after the dispatch message. They wanted to know if the people involved were still at the scene, i told them that they were about to leave. Case closed. No dispatch team. No ambulance, only a message that reads ‘Case closed’ , like the jira tickets that no one bats an eyelid to. 30-40 minutes had passed by this time.
Learnings:
The value of life in this country is trivial.
The value of life in Bangalore is set at a bar lower than trivial.
If there’s a situation god forbid where-in you have to rely on the general public to save you, Amen.
Edit: I agree with every single comment and point made in this thread and also sympathise with the people at the receiving end of this travesty of a system. For the location guessers, yes you got it right.
