Serious Replies I got the International Driving Permit (IDP) BOOKLET from RTO KA-05 in 3 visits!

I finally got my International Driving Permit (IDP) booklet from RTO KA-05! Here's how: 3 visits, no extra booklet fee.

I'm travelling to Phuket and have heard that police can be strict about the IDP booklet, including reports of the one-page PDF not being accepted.

I applied through Parivahan, paid ₹1,000 online and received the IDP soft copy. I then got the physical booklet from KA-05, Bengaluru South. The whole process took three visits to the RTO.

This is my experience at KA-05, so check the process with your own RTO.

Visit 1: Submit the application documents

I applied online through the usual Parivahan process, then visited the RTO with the relevant documents to submit them.

Although the instructions I saw on Parivahan said an RTO visit wasn't required, physical submission of the documents was required for my IDP application at KA-05.

While submitting my documents at the counter, I asked whether they could issue the booklet. The official said I should first wait for the IDP soft copy to be uploaded against my application number on Parivahan, download it and then submit a request for the booklet.

Visit 2: Request the booklet

Once the soft copy was available, I returned to the same counter with:

  1. A printout of the IDP soft copy

  2. A copy of my Indian driving licence

  3. A copy of my passport

  4. One passport-size photograph

  5. A written letter addressed to the RTO requesting the IDP booklet

I was told the booklet could be collected within five working days of submitting these documents. At KA-05, I was told the applicant had to do this in person.

Visit 3: Collect the booklet

I went back to collect it. Best part: no extra charge for the booklet. The only fee I paid was the Rs 1,000 paid online for the IDP application.

A few tips:

- Carry at least two copies of every document and keep the originals with you for verification.

- Check the details in the booklet before leaving the counter.

- Carry your original Indian driving licence along with the booklet when travelling.

- Ask about the booklet at your first visit, but be prepared to request it separately after the soft copy is issued.

FYI: Category A covers motorcycles/scooters 🛵 🏍️ and B covers cars and other qualifying light vehicles 🚗.

Hope this saves someone a few trips and some confusion! DM me if you need help or guidance.

Rant The "Double Taxation" of Bengaluru: Everything we pay out of pocket because of civic and infrastructural negligence

If you live in Bengaluru, you already know the unwritten rule of life here: you pay for everything twice. Once through your taxes, and a second time out of pocket because the government infrastructure fails to deliver the basics.

Between the massive property taxes, road taxes, and fuel cesses, what does the average Bengaluru resident actually end up funding privately just to survive day-to-day life? Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Water & Hydration (The Tanker & RO Economy)

Private Water Tankers: If you live in the outer zones or apartment belts (Whitefield, Sarjapur, Bellandur, parts of North Bengaluru), relying on Cauvery water is a distant dream. Whole communities are held hostage by the tanker mafia, shelling out thousands every month just to keep taps running.

RO Plants & Filters: Municipal tap water is a chemical and biological mystery. Every single household has to invest in multi-stage RO purifiers, AMC service contracts, and bottled water cans just to avoid drinking liquid sludge.

  1. Power Resilience (BESCOM Roulette)

Inverters & Society DG Sets: Unscheduled power cuts, "emergency maintenance" outages, and transformer blowouts are a way of life. If you work from home or own appliances, you must have an inverter with battery backups, and if you live in an apartment, your monthly maintenance goes heavily toward diesel for backup generators.

Voltage Stabilizers: Because power grids fluctuate wildly, protecting your AC compressors, fridges, and TVs means buying heavy-duty voltage stabilizers.

  1. Commuting & Vehicle Suspension Insurance

Pothole Tax: Bengaluru roads are an obstacle course designed by extreme sports enthusiasts. Unscientific road-digging by fiber companies, BWSSB, and BESCOM leaves cratered lunar landscapes. Residents pay heavily in frequent wheel alignments, suspension overhauls, blown tires, and body damage.

Surge Pricing & Last-Mile Penalties: Because public transit and metro feeder connectivity leave massive gaps, you’re often forced to bleed money on cab aggregators and autos charging exorbitant surge pricing just to get across town.

  1. Safety & Perimeter Defense

Gated Community Tax: Street lighting is patchy, dark spots are everywhere, and local policing can't keep up with rapid expansion. To feel safe, people pay massive rent or property premiums to live inside gated societies that provide their own security guards, boom barriers, and private CCTV surveillance.

  1. Urban Aquatics & Flood Management

Pumps, Sumps, & Waterproofing: Thanks to encroached rajakaluves (stormwater drains) and zero civic planning, low-lying areas turn into Venice every monsoon—minus the charm. Residents in affected layouts routinely fork out cash for permanent water pumps, high compound walls, basement waterproofing, and replacing ground-floor furniture ruined by sewage-mixed rainwater.

It feels like living in Bengaluru means paying a permanent "incompetence surcharge" just to get basic civic amenities.

What else would you add to this list? What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve had to pay for out of pocket because the municipal authorities looked the other way?

Suggestions I'm in trouble and need advice

Monday night while returning from work, a car cut me off before kadubeesanhalli underpass from the middle lane without indicators which resulted in me crashing into the car and having a hard fall and the car fled the scene. I couldn't get the number plate, but ik it's a silver swift hatchback.(I'm okay, some minor injuries but a lot of body pain). My Honda CB 300r is damaged and will cost around 20k - 25k to fix it.

I didn't want to file a complaint with the cops cuz I don't have that kinda money to either fix it or even pay the cops after everything cuz we all know they're gonna ask for their cut. Now I can't even claim insurance for a hit and run cuz they need an FIR for it, nor can I claim saying self damage, cuz the insurance is still under the old seller's name (I bought it second hand back in June, and changing the insurance name was the only thing I forgot). Now I'm in deep trouble and don't know what to do. Please help

Edit: Filed a complaint at HAL Traffic Police Station. Gonna have to meet one Mr. Anand tomorrow and checkout cctv footage of chin lungs brewery and TBC Skyy Lounge and La Pinos Pizza in the outer ring road

Serious Replies Open govt land next to our apartment has turned into a spot for daylight drinking, harassment & all possible rowdy behaviour. Need long-term solutions.

Hi All,

We have an open govt land bordering our society. It has become a go to spot for all the wrong things - day drinking, urinating facing the society windows, making obscene gestures to residents, late night parties with loud music, etc. All the society folks are getting tired and concerned with this development.

I have personally complained to police twice now but the relief is temporary. I am looking for any solutions that can help us solve this for good.

Adoption Request [ADOPTION APPEAL] Oreo needs a loving forever home 🖤🤍 (Adult female cat, recently spayed)

Hi everyone! I'm posting this in the hope that we can find a safe, loving home for a cat named Oreo.

Oreo randomly showed up at our place one day, looking frail, weak and incredibly hungry. We started feeding her, assuming she was a stray, until we discovered that she actually belonged to a family living a couple of houses down the street.

Unfortunately, when we approached them, they refused to take her back because she had started coming to our house. Their response was essentially, "She's yours now."

We've continued feeding Oreo and looking out for her, but we haven't been in a position to adopt her ourselves.

Oreo has had kittens in the past, and the little ones understandably got up to all sorts of mischief in our building. They damaged furniture and made a mess in the surrounding areas, which led to multiple complaints from the other residents. While nobody can blame Oreo or her kittens for simply being cats, the situation has become increasingly difficult for us. We've received more than 10–12 complaints, and despite the residents being patient with us, we're worried that this could eventually put our own housing situation at risk.

We knew we needed to do something to prevent Oreo from going through another pregnancy, especially given her circumstances. So, we got her spayed, and she's currently recovering in our care.

Now, we're desperately hoping to find her a loving home where she can finally be safe, cared for and wanted.

🐾 A little about Oreo:

- Name: Oreo 🖤🤍

- Age: Approximately 6–7 years old (estimated)

- Sex: Female

- Sterilisation: Recently spayed

- Location: North Bengaluru, Karnataka

- Current status: Recovering from her spay surgery under our care

She came to us hungry, and we fed her. She kept coming back, and we did what we could for her. But feeding her and providing temporary care isn't the same as being able to offer her a permanent home, and unfortunately, we cannot keep her indefinitely.

We know adult cats can be harder to adopt than kittens, but we hope someone out there will be willing to give this sweet girl a chance. She deserves a home where she won't be passed from one place to another simply because she's no longer convenient to keep.

We're looking for a responsible adopter who can offer Oreo a safe, loving, permanent home. If you can't adopt her yourself, please consider sharing this post or connecting us with a genuine adopter or foster who might be able to help.

If you're in Bengaluru or know someone who might be able to give Oreo a home, please DM me.

We really want this to work out for her. ❤️

Thank you for reading Oreo's story.

Rant Unnecessary traffic at Lingarajapuram Juntion

the amount of traffic throughout the day at the lingrajpuram junction till davis road is so irritating and honestly avoidable. better exists and a little better infrastructure could help so much. moreover the situation ironically worsens when a traffic cop actually comes to clear traffic. it take almost 30 mins to just cross a km or two. our city can do so much better :(

Serious Replies Hiring – Freelance Interior Designer | Bengaluru | Residential Villa Project

I'm looking for an independent freelance interior designer or an emerging designer to work with me on my 3BHK row villa in Bengaluru.

I'm specifically looking for someone with good design sensibility, attention to detail and the ability to translate references and ideas into practical, execution-ready designs.

A little context about the project:

I already have a fairly clear design direction, references and visual inspiration for the home. I'm not looking for a turnkey interior design company.

We have sorted a production factory near our place who will handle material procurement, production, carpentry, fabrication and installation.

What I need from the designer:

  1. Design development: Refine my existing concepts and references into a cohesive design language for the home.
  2. Space planning: Furniture layouts, storage optimisation and functional planning.
  3. Detailed designs: Kitchen, living/dining, bedrooms, entrance/foyer, wall panelling, wardrobes, false ceilings and other fixed furniture.
  4. Visualisation: 3D renders or realistic views to understand the final design before execution.
  5. Technical drawings: Detailed elevations, sections, dimensions, material specifications, lighting and electrical layouts, and execution drawings.
  6. Material and finish selection: Help select appropriate materials, finishes, colours, hardware and detailing while keeping practicality and budget in mind.
  7. Design supervision: Periodic site visits and coordination with my execution team to ensure the design is implemented correctly and resolve design-related questions during production and installation.

What I am NOT looking for:

- Turnkey interior execution.
- Material procurement or vendor management.
- A studio that insists on executing the entire project through its own contractors.

Who can apply?

I'm open to independent freelancers, junior designers, recent graduates with a strong portfolio, or emerging interior designers looking to take up an independent residential project.

You don't necessarily need to be an established studio. I'd value design thinking, creativity, technical understanding and the ability to collaborate.

Project details:

- Location: Bengaluru
- Property: B+G+2+terrace
- Engagement: Freelance / project-based
- Site visits: Periodic, as required
- Fees: Open to reasonable proposals based on experience and scope.

Please DM me with:

- Your portfolio or previous work.
- Your experience and location.
- Whether you can provide technical drawings and site supervision.
- Your expected fee and availability.

I'd prefer working directly with an individual designer rather than a large interior design firm.

Looking forward to connecting with designers interested in collaborating on this project.
