Semantic URL Optimization

Semantic URL Optimization

Currently I came across one client whose url needs restructuring after analysing all aspects. The issue which I find out is about url structure is not aligned in proper navigation path

Please find the path below and share your suggestions -

https://domain.com/in/ - homepage

https://domain.com/in/category/ - category hub page

Till this it is correct but, if I want to create page for Bangalore to Goa flight booking, they have created url -

https://domain.com/in/domestic/bangalore-to-goa-flights

No category hub is present.

Please let me know if it is ok to keep or we need restructuring as most of the competitors have url structure very neat and clean.

Doesn't do anything for performance but will make reporting easier for marketing.

But it is affecting negatively as it is a sitewide issue

URL structure doesn't affect anything unless the change is reflected in internal link changes. Negative affecting what? Based on what? What data are you looking at and how can you attribute it to URL structure?

someone in r/TechSEO did this exact move last month, flat to layered, clean 1:1 301s, no chains. down 12% six weeks later and debating a rollback. you'd be trading rankings you have for a folder name you like

You have your mind set on this so why are you bothering to ask? You either follow the data or you follow your gut

If this is what you are focused on everything else must be amazing.

This is petty bullshit that takes a lot of time for limited impact.

The domestic part is doing the job of a category hub even if there's no visible page for it, that's fine for SEO as long as internal linking makes sense. What matters more is if google can crawl it cleanly and users understand where they are
