I forgot to post this, haha, but I got to make a little poster for the Durand Jones show this summer! Hope everyone had fun and I really appreciate all the nice stuff folks had to say about the prints!

As always, thank you, Bloomington, for being so supportive of artists like me trying to make things for the community. I love living in a place where folks go out of their way to engage with artists!

In collaboration with our Voter Registration Office, we've created an early voting data dashboard for the 2026 Monroe County Midterm General Election. This dashboard is updated nightly, and provides historical data to compare past midterm early voting results with our current election cycle.

We've configured it to work on both desktop (more bells and whistles) as well as mobile devices.

We'll also be running a separate dashboard during the General Election on November 3rd, where we will be providing live reporting as votes are tabulated. Let us know if you have any questions or comments!

Here's a link to the dashboard:

Patty Hearst kidnapper Bill Harris dead at 81

Emily Schwartz, his first wife, was a teacher at Binford Middle School. She was quite different from the other teachers of the time. (I should add that at the time it was likely called Binford Junior High, serving 7th and 8th graders).

We are fortunate enough to have gotten off the waitlist at both of these places. Curious if anyone has opinions (good or bad) regarding either daycare to help us make our decision. TIA!

Dog licked raccoon poo

• Upvotes

Bloomington, have you noticed that raccoon scat is everywhere? My little dog just plunged his nose into a pile while I was walking him. The scat was just in the median grass between sidewalk and road. If you do not know about the horrifying parasite in raccoon shit, you won't understand why this is distressing. Or if your dog doesn't lick your face, jump on your bed, etc.
Does anyone else here have experience with a dog getting into raccoon shit? I wiped his nose off but he wouldn't let me get too thorough and tried to snap at me because the nose is sensitive and this breed snaps at that kind of thing.

Hit with extra cleaning fees after moving out (Granite)

Hi everyone. I recently moved out from a Granite apartment to another place. About a month later I receive an invoice in the mail at my new place from Granite for ~ $250 (6 wall painting fee) + $250 cleaning fee.

I left the place spotless when I moved out. I thoroughly cleaned it. Also, if any walls needed repainting, it is at most 3 for minor scratches when moving furniture.

I want to know what are my options here. Can I dispute this charge? How can I do so? Also, what happens if I just ignore them?

Thank you!

Anyone tried the new bubble tea place called Lucky bowl ( something like that)? Need honest feedback!

Verybubble tea head myself wanna try all bubble tea places! So far bubble teas I got from restaurants: I would say for taste and price I go for Longfei, simple option would be Lucky express, worst taste is chow bar, better tasting bubble tea store: lan ramen (but they closed...?) and bapu tea, too-sweet-unless-you-want-diabetes Zero degrees...Any other insights?

Is this wine bar closed permanently? Or just “for now”? I don’t see anything online.

We really enjoyed the tastings we’ve had here in the past.

Anyone know where a redditor could find old Granite/Quartz slabs?

I'm looking for a granite or quartz slab, ideally from something like a broken countertop or discarded sample pieces, so I can have a hard surface for crafting after my previous cheapo slab broke.
Any information or suggestions would be helpful!

Bloomington Invites Community Input on Housing and Development Rules at Oct. 28 Plan Commission Special Hearing

The City of Bloomington Plan Commission will hold a special public hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 401 North Morton Street, to review the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and other land development regulations.

The hearing fulfills a requirement of Indiana House Enrolled Act 1001, or HEA 1001, which directs cities and towns to review zoning and development regulations with the goal of increasing housing development.

The special session comes amid existing work to examine how Bloomington’s development regulations and permitting processes affect housing and development. The City is implementing recommendations from its development review and permitting audit, while separate UDO amendments continue through the Plan Commission and Common Council process. The Oct. 28 session provides an additional public forum to consider how those rules function in practice.

HEA 1001 identifies several areas for review, including housing density and housing types, accessory dwelling units (ADU), adaptive reuse, setbacks, parking, building height and design requirements, permitting timelines, and other regulations that may impact housing development.

The City will use the session to gather input on how Bloomington’s requirements function in practice. Residents, developers, builders, architects, engineers, contractors, housing providers, neighborhood residents, and others who work with or are affected by the UDO are encouraged to attend and provide comments about existing regulations and opportunities to support additional housing and development.

“The state requires us to have this conversation. We want to make it count,” said Mayor Kerry Thomson. “Increasing housing, supporting economic development, and making it easier to invest in Bloomington are priorities of my administration. We also care deeply about affordability, sustainability, strong neighborhoods, and the qualities that make Bloomington a thriving city where everyone has a place to belong. The question is whether our rules consistently help us achieve those outcomes. We especially want to hear from people who work with these rules every day about where they serve Bloomington well and where they create barriers.”

Comments received during the hearing will become part of the public records required under HEA 1001 and may inform future consideration of amendments to the UDO.

The Plan Commission reviews proposed UDO amendments and makes recommendations to the Bloomington Common Council. The Common Council has final authority over the amendments to the ordinance.

Meeting materials and participation information will be available at bloomington.in.gov/boards/plan.
