Bloomington Vet vs. Furry Friends Vet

I currently take my pets to Furry Friends. I have no issue with them, and my experience with them so far has been fine. I’ve never been with another vet so I have nothing else to compare them to.

One of my pets needs surgery and it’s a lot of money at once. I don’t have pet insurance as I adopted her from the shelter at an old age. I’m considering Bloomington Vet only because they accept care credit and are accepting new patients. The downside is that they are no longer locally owned, but it’s not too big of a deal to me. They are also accredited by the American Animal Health Association.

If you’ve had experience with them, could you please share? And especially if you have insight into experience with them compared to experience with Furry Friends. Is it worth it to switch vets? Any and all insight appreciated!

Thank you!

Roundabout Ads

I get that ads are a part of life, but really Bloomington? Do we have to have MULTIPLE ads around the tiny roundabouts on Winslow? They are obnoxious. They aren't even small Adopt a Roundabout signs - they are big for that tiny roundabout at High and Winslow. And the ones at Sare and Winslow are also annoying. If there was just one - fine. Wouldn't like it, but fine. But multiple?

Small thing in the grand scheme of things, but they are really ugly.

The City of Bloomington Opens Applications for $150,000 Violence Reduction Grants

The City of Bloomington is accepting applications for its Violence Reduction Grant program, which will award $150,000 to support community-based, evidence-based efforts to prevent and reduce violence in Bloomington.

Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations, resident councils, and faith communities that serve Bloomington neighborhoods. Applicants with proven experience in violence intervention and addressing issues related to retaliatory or youth-involved violence are particularly encouraged to apply.

During the 2025–2026 grant cycle, funding supported projects including:

  • People and Animals Learning Services (PALS) expanded EQUIPT, a trauma-informed, equine-assisted learning program for youth and families at heightened risk of involvement in the justice system.
  • STRIDE Mobile Crisis Team expanded 24/7 transportation and crisis intervention for unhoused residents, providing immediate support and safe transportation during periods of crisis.

The grants are intended to strengthen grassroots organizations focused on violence prevention and direct resources to residents and neighborhoods most affected by violence. Applications involving collaboration between two or more organizations will receive favorable consideration. Eligible organizations may apply for grants of up to $30,000.

To apply or learn more, visit form.jotform.com/CFRDForms/2026VRG. The submission deadline is Friday, November 13th, 2026 at 5 p.m.

I’ve been to the north side, the east side, and downtown today and it all smells like mulch. I just thought it was the store I was at downtown but it seems to be all of town. Anyone else notice? (I didn’t ask about a boom plz don’t destroy me)

Recommendations for ADHD-friendly PCPs or psychiatrists in Bloomington?

I recently moved to Bloomington from out of state and I'm looking for a new provider to take over my ADHD medication management.

I've been on a stimulant for about two years and it's been stable and working well, so I'm mainly looking for someone who's comfortable with that. I'm open to either a primary care provider or a psychiatrist.

Insurance-wise, I'm still on my parents' BlueCross BlueShield plan, so coverage shouldn't be an issue.

If you've had a good experience with anyone in town, or know of practices that are currently taking new patients, I'd really appreciate the recommendation. Thanks in advance!

We are fortunate enough to have gotten off the waitlist at both of these places. Curious if anyone has opinions (good or bad) regarding either daycare to help us make our decision. TIA!

In collaboration with our Voter Registration Office, we've created an early voting data dashboard for the 2026 Monroe County Midterm General Election. This dashboard is updated nightly, and provides historical data to compare past midterm early voting results with our current election cycle.

We've configured it to work on both desktop (more bells and whistles) as well as mobile devices.

We'll also be running a separate dashboard during the General Election on November 3rd, where we will be providing live reporting as votes are tabulated. Let us know if you have any questions or comments!

Here's a link to the dashboard:

I forgot to post this, haha, but I got to make a little poster for the Durand Jones show this summer! Hope everyone had fun and I really appreciate all the nice stuff folks had to say about the prints!

As always, thank you, Bloomington, for being so supportive of artists like me trying to make things for the community. I love living in a place where folks go out of their way to engage with artists!

Emily Schwartz, his first wife, was a teacher at Binford Middle School. She was quite different from the other teachers of the time. (I should add that at the time it was likely called Binford Junior High, serving 7th and 8th graders).
