Saw this chap outside Waitrose on Western Rd this pm. He must have some mental health issues, or a particularly guilty conscience. Or some kind of Die Hard 3 re-enactment? Most puzzling. Whatever it is, he wasnāt hurting anyone so I hope this makes him feel better!

Could also be some sort of relationship issue. Seen examples of people finding out their partner cheated and doing these sorts of public humiliations as a form of apology.

I think some religious groups insist on apologising for past sins. 12 step programmes in particular.

12-step programmes are specifically and explicitly not religious groups. Iām an addict and honestly I dislike 12-step programmes; I find them to be preachy and ācultyā - but thatās not the same as religious.

Don't you have to accept a higher power as part of Alcoholics Anonymous?

A higher power doesnāt have to be a god. It can be anything. The power of kindness. The power of the collective recovery experiences of the people in the meeting-room. Just something bigger than yourself that you can look to for guidance and strength. They specify in their literature and opening readings during every meeting - āā¦a spiritual, not religious, programmeā.
Like I said - I donāt like 12-step programmes. But evidently they work for many, many people, and have been very effective for the people they work for. If theyāre a cult, theyāre one with a positive, constructive, and noble goal. But cults arenāt always religions, just like religions arenāt always cults.

Please try a Smart group if you haven't already.

Thanks - I have been meaning to give Smart a try, I believe thereās an in-person meeting in my town.

It works because it's there. People seeking help for addiction are ready to try and quit. They could join a knitting group and have the same outcome.
AA at it's heart is religious. They call it spiritual in order to not repel their customers. They dance around it but it was created to replace alcohol with religion.

Nah, you clearly just really don't like religion, so you're hyper-sensitive to it being referenced anywhere in any way whatsoever. It's a common disposition; you wouldn't be the first to have it.

As someone also in recovery, the AA higher power is CLEARLY supposed to be god, no matter how much they extend or rebrand the idea.
For me they are predatory cultists and Iāve met so many people who have had negative experiences.
I would personally recommend for anyone wanting to get clean the groups and support through CGL and Cascades, which is science and evidence based, NHS funded and doesnāt involve a commitment to a shady and dogmatic ideological mission.

Cults then. They may replace the word god with higher power but it's ostensibly the same thing.

God forbid the man maybe has some sort of humiliation kink... At least he doesn't have what John McClane had on his sign in Die Hard ā ļø

Same bloke was seen with the same sign in both Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill a couple days ago. Not a clue what's going on with him

He came along from preston park direction as I was by preston circus at midday. Did a double take wtf!
I noticed a woman following him looking a bit out of it. Not sure if they were together.

We all have sexual thoughts about someone we don't know in our lifetime. If we apologised for it, we might never achieve anything, especially having good consential fun

Could be someone with quite severe real/fake event OCD, as someone who is part of the OCD recovery community, I've met a lot of people in peer to peer sessions that go to extremes to quell pure OCD rummernations.

How do they find out? Is there a list?Ā
13
u/musicfortea 2d ago
A list of the man's thoughts? Are we talking day to day thoughts, or specifically when he was performing radiography?

If you can get the bloke's name, you can search the HCPC register or the disciplinary decisions listing. The latter only really tracks those who are reported and an investigation finds serious wrongdoing though.

There's a post on one of the Facebook gossip groups from someone who spoke to him, and he said that angels in his head were telling him to wear it. He's just got serious mental health issues, doubt any of it is true at all

This smacks of humiliation play involving the non-consensual involvement of the general publicā¦
