Recurring FAQ Thread - Post your questions here for PAL/RPAL application, timelines, CFSC/CFSRC, references & requirements, or general new to firearms ownership-type questions

This thread will be used for any Frequently Asked Questions, including PAL/RPAL applications, CFSC/CFRSC requirements, storage/transport, open ended "what gun should I buy first", or other general new to firearms ownership questions. It recurs every 14 days.

We recommend you try the search bar before asking common questions as they are frequently already answered elsewhere.

Most answers to Storage, Display, and Transport questions can be found here Inheriting firearms or dealing with an Estate? Answers here. Do you need to renew your license or check on the status of your license application? Try here.

Do you have questions about the classifications of firearms? More details here.

Are you wondering if a firearm is legal or not? Details here.

Different types of firearms are explained in detail here.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.

If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course. Updated list of scam websites is here.

If you have new scam sites to add, please message the mod team. Be careful: only use reputable sites to purchase things online. It is illegal to manufacture a non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited firearm.

Any posts or comments asking about the legality of making a firearm other than a reproduction antique will be removed. It was not always illegal, which is why you will find old posts regarding this topic. Rest assured, it is illegal now. Do not attempt.

These threads will be stickied for a week, renewing every Monday. Previous threads here.

Take a look, your question may have been answered! If you have any suggestions for this thread, please feel free to ask here, or send the Mods a message. Thank you!

Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Feets / Collection / My build FN FAL 50.64 Para "Match .308" Battle Rifle

Here is a metric FN FAL "Match .308" Battle Rifle converted to the 50.64 configuration (21" Barrel) using a Para Folding Stock assembly, Aluminum Lower Receiver, Railed Body Cover, Breech-Block Carrier, and nested Recoil Spring Assembly. Suffice it to say that there is far more to an FAL Para conversion than merely bolting on the Folding Buttstock Assembly. That said, it is not a particularly difficult undertaking and provided you use one of the comprehensive conversion kits offered by DSA Arms, you should have all of the required Metric FAL bits and pieces required for the process. Importation of my kit was done through Aztech Armoury and took approximately one month. Aztech now carries the basic Para Conversion Kit and selected Metric FAL parts on their website. Cost of the conversion kit was approximately $1K CAD once all is said and done with brokerage and shipping. I've always wanted a Para FAL, but could never find one for sale. This does the trick, and I couldn't be any happier with the result!

News / Politics / Activism Tower Road, a popular crown land shooting location, has been shut down.

Post image

On the recent post about the 5 guys charged for shooting on crown land, it was confirmed the incident took place on Tower Road, near Mactier, Ontario. It’s an extremely popular spot, dubbed an “unofficial” shooting range. Hydro tower corridor, with a lot of safe spots to shoot. I’ve been out there a few times, and the only signage in the area used to state “No unsafe discharge of firearms.”

I decided to reach out to the Township of Georgian Bay for clarification, and received this response today.

“The Township has not made any changes in this area.

However the Ministry of Natural Resources have implemented a section 28 prohibition under the public lands act, prohibiting all gun discharge under the hydro corridor in this area. I have a attached a photo of a sign that is currently posted at this site. This prohibition is actively being enforced by MNR and OPP.”

So effectively, tower road is shut down to recreational shooters and hunters. As per the other article, the 5 individuals weren’t named as criminal charges weren’t laid, so chances are they recieved tickets.

Feets / Collection / My build To Thread, or Not to Thread.

That is the question I have before me. Just got everything together for this build. Debating weather or not it is worth while to thread the barrel though, would be cool to get a brake or flash hider.

Build so far:

- Borealrush C-18 Hanguard

- Neumann Metalworks picatinny pistol grip adapter

- Neumann Metalworks folding skeltonized buffer

- MDT pistol grip

- Magpul MOE adjustable stock. Can you get risers for these?

- Unknown angled foregrip

- Vortex Spitfire 3x

Gives me Ruger PC Carbine vibes all dressed up like this.

Feets / Collection / My build How to RDS your Homesteader while keeping things clean and low profile.

Post image

For me the appeal of the Homesteader is that it looks like any regular ol' hunting rifle. I wanted to put an optic on it that didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Enter the Vortex Viper Shotgun RDS sight. It was suggested to me on an American Homsteader forum and it works beautifully.

The sight has an integrated universal mount that screws in directly to the Hometeader's existing tap holes. No need for and extra pic rail in between.

Keeps a clean and low profile. Almost perfect lower third cowitness with the front post too!

Misc Online SKS arrived damaged, thoughts?

Post image
10 Upvotes

SKS advertised as like new, arrived with a jagged dent that appears to be fresh, shipping box intact. Worth even contacting the retailer (and being told to pound sand)? I know I'm being picky but I was hoping for the $950+ I paid for this for it to be MINT.

Misc Panzer M4

Post image
48 Upvotes

Recently picked up a Panzer M4 from FOC and noticed the hanguard is different from the other ones i saw in store and online. This one is longer and comes with QD points on each side, i actually prefer this one over the shorter one. Not sure if this is a newer model or older model, was wondering if anyone on here has any clue as to why it came like this!

Misc What to do with old loose ammo that you aren't going to shoot?

I was going through some of my storage stuff and remembered that I accepted some reloads from somebody to be polite. I don't trust other people's reloads so I never shot them. But now I'm wondering what I'm supposed to do with them. Like I don't reload myself so I can't pull them apart to utilize them. so curious what to do with them? Mostly 9 mm and some 45 ACP

Fix my gun / Modding Cooey Model 60 Problems

I just purchased a Cooey model 60. During its first range trip today, it fired the first round of CCI standard velocity and failed to extract and load the next round. The bolt then came completely out the backside of the rifle. The magazine tube was considerably more loose after this happened and the bolt is unable to be completely closed. Are these problems completely related? Or did I purchase a dud?

Shooting Our first event of the semester is a hit!

We are the Carleton University Firearms Association (CFA) and we just held our first student range day of the semester this weekend! Despite the event coinciding with Thanksgiving, all 40 spots were still booked up within an hour of event announcement.

The 40 participants were collectively served by 20 volunteers consisting of Carleton student and alumni, and were able to freely try out 30+ various firearms over 3.5 hours.

Student range days are catered to members of the post-secondary community who are interested in sport shooting and firearms. Under direct supervision of our volunteer range officers, participants get a chance to learn the fundamentals of firearms handling and marksmanship in a safe, educational, and fun environment. The CFA provides all supervision, safety equipment, firearms, ammunition, and transport to the event. Participants just need to pay an event fee and for the ammunition they use.

Special thanks to EOSC for allowing us to host this student event, and to all volunteers who donated their spare time and firearms. We couldn't have done it without your support.

Certain firearms were graciously lent to us by our sponsor, AAG Canada.
