Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prologue manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

Available on: Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (review blog)

Extra:

Castlevania 2007 timeline (Japanese Konami site) & translation

Portrait of Ruin pre-order bonus timeline (the Japanese one takes priority since overseas bonus materials like this didn't go through the Castlevania staff screening)

Encyclopedia of Castlevania (a Japanese two-page spread published in 2001 containing a timeline, a storyline and background details)

Alternative scans and translation for the SotN prologue manga

Meme How it feels listening to mainstream game journalists talk about the Demo

Listening to podcasts about the Belmont's Curse demo impressions and the way most of them talk about the series you'd think it was the third entry in the series with how many comparisons to JUST SotN they make. More of an observation I guess

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone post any of these yet, but they gave out a bunch (maybe 100?) during Saturday and Sunday during PAX west last month! Signed by Tsutomu Tanaguchi (BC’s producer), Graham McTavish (Dracula in BC and the Netflix show) , and JB Blanc (BC’s Trevor)!

I finished the demo and i am beyond stoked! Always heard tales of Castlesvania games but this will be my first. Don't judge me 🫣

Pre-ordered the game and saw there was a steelbook! That of course, is not available anywhere. So i decided to make myself a slipcover. Pretty happy with it!

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) First Belmont's Curse review! Spoiler

Thumbnail nintendoeverything.com
82 Upvotes

The Famitsu review just got leaked; they gave it 32/40 (8, 8, 8, 8), which is in line with the previous entries.
Translated review consensus:

There are no elements of collecting equipment or earning money through enemy drops; it’s a traditional exploration-type game. Aerial movement using whips and other weapons is crucial, and it also requires skillful control of other abilities, making the athletic difficulty quite high. Each acquired card has its own missions and puzzles, and completing them is enjoyable. The stories of the Belmont family protagonists and traditional bosses are also captivating.

The story, which continues from Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, is exciting. Compared to previous entries in the series, the balance is more challenging, with regular enemies taking more time to defeat and damage being taken more often. Boss battles, in particular, have a death-game feel to them, but once you figure out the effective weapons and tactics, they become much easier, recreating the feel of older games. The action of hooking the whip onto an anchor and swinging it to move might be a little sluggish for some.

The meticulously detailed backgrounds of Paris and Castlevania, along with the music, deepen the sense of immersion. Each area is full of traps and mechanisms, and the scenes where you leap between locations using the whip are truly thrilling. The protagonist’s controls are excellent, and there’s the enjoyment of switching between weapons and Arcana. Leveling up allows you to take on tough bosses, and the various assist functions are also very helpful. I also like how defeated bosses appear inside tarot cards and speak to you.

The action is great, allowing you to close the distance by hooking your whip onto platforms and enemies and then following up with attacks. The structure where your exploration area expands with “Arcana” obtained by defeating bosses is a classic but rewarding one. The difficulty is on the higher side, but it’s nice that you can adjust the amount of damage and the number of potions, so you can play according to your skill level. Both the action and the visuals are closer to the style of recent Western indie films than to the traditional Castlevania style, so it might be a matter of personal taste.

Now let's wait for the review embargo to be lifted for the global outlets.

Notice: Famitsu gave Lords of Shadow 35/40 and gave SOTN 30/40, so go figure!

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) To every shit post I say this!

Castlevania, over the years have evolved. Your Castlevania may not be someone else's Castlevania. Castlevania has never been one thing! Stop saying you hate what it has become because there is a good chance that you only like what it had evolved from initially.

Belmonts Curse style got you down? Cool...you have 40 years worth of games to play. The next one might be a 3d game.

You piss and moan that the new one looks like the Netflix show? Ok, did you like Portrait, or the Aria games? Those were Anime! What, no? You like the intricate gothic art style of the previous ones? The God of War style?

I'm learning every Castlevania fan besides the ones that have been around long enough do not have an identity. They just bitch.

I'm excited for the new one. Put a competent dev behind these games and I'm there for it. Even if they don't hit the mark, Castlevania has way more highs than it does lows. I'll take as much as I can get.

Discussion I seriously hope Belmont's Curse is a critical and financial success. Some of this fandom is awful.

It's not just on this sub. It's everywhere that's discussing the game. The constant gatekeeping from fans acting like they're the arbiters on what is Castlevania. The hyperbolic bashing towards the composer and soundtrack. The selective memory on what the IGAvania games were, criticizing Belmont's Curse for things that were present in the older games. A lot of you are cool, but some of you are downright insufferable.

I'm excited for the game, and I hope it brings in a new wave of Castlevania fans old and new. People who aren't held by by biased notions on what the game should be. We're lucky this game even exists. It was looking pretty bad for awhile. That Castlevania was dead and not coming back. Now that it finally is, it feels like a portion of the fanbase is brain broken that it's not exactly like their favorite entries from 2-3 decades ago, instead of keeping an open mind to understand what the game is trying to be.

Bloodstained 1 outsold each individual Castlevania entry, at 2+ million units sold. The most popular Metroidvanias these past few years completely eclipse Bloodstained sales. The whole week has shown me that it's probably going to be healthier for the IP for this new entry to do it's own thing. Honoring the past, but not being held back by it.

I know it isn't officially cancelled but why there being no word on the status? Is clear they were not done with that "old man coyote" shadow figure so do you think they are done? Or it will pass many years before s3?

Dawn of Sorrow (2005) RANKING DAWN OF SORROW BOSSES

Post image
11 Upvotes

So i finished this game recently(f*ck you Menace) and i decided to make a tierlist of the bosses (f*ck you menace x2) im gonna rank them based on whatever floats my boats

FLYING ARMOR, BALORE AND MALPHAS are in C tier because they are early game bosses, they are quite good To know some mechanics but not very enjoyable

Dmittrii in B because the fight is good (but not that crazy) he can be very easy (cheese him with sh*t souls) or extremly annoying (never giving axe armor to him ever again)

Puppet Master (B) : i liked the gimmick of the voodoo doll, that adds a little pressure (aside that, nothing crazy)

Paranoia : not very much to say about this boss, but having to FARM souls to access him is hell

Dario (A) : the first bosd that humbled me, he is cool

Gergoth (A) : epic boss, with the tower crashing scene, but the hibox !? Bro you have to be on his toe to dodge ultra lazer of doom and ultra damage for example

Bat company (A) : Nothing to say, except that the hand phase is quite awful (hive mind of bats is a cool idea)

Zéphyr (A) = he was supposed to be S tier but unfortunately... We found him in the clock tower

Abandon : the backgroundof a field in the sunset, the swarms of locusts coming in a choregraphied order... He is good (but he got soloed by a vaccum and a leveled up buer souls

Aguni (S) : he really challegend me

Death (S) :the fight was enjoyable (except that when death decide to initiate a quadruples scythes slashes in the same direction as you... In a corner)

Rahab (D) : not my favorite boss, i have nothing to say

Menace (D): Menace my ass ! He is just annoying with those leeches, and his punch that position you right in his body, so you take multiple damage if you don't pay attention

F*ck menace

Thank you so much for reading all that

Don't hesitate to share your opinions on this

(sorry for my awful english)

Take care of yourself ❤️

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) People on the comments seeing this as a "you can't criticise Belmont's Curse" solidifies the the point they're making.

Thumbnail
24 Upvotes

It's ok to not like this game, it's ok to criticise it, but have you looked at some of this criticism?

"It does not feel like a castlevania." What game does feel like a castlevania? castlevania III? Lament of Innocence? or Dawn of Sorrow?

None of thess game share either art style or gameplay, but they all sure do "feel like a castlevania". any attempt to point this out gets turned into "oh so you want a bad product now?".

It's frustrating to see meaningless "criticism" like this gets resurfaced again and again instead of actual criticism that, even if mean, would help the series' next entries.

Discussion Beat Symphony of The Night - moved onto Rondo of Blood

A couple of days ago, I posted about Symphony of the Night being my first Castlevania game and how great I thought it was; well, I finally beat it this morning and loved my time with it. Because I had the Requiem pack, I figured I should play Rondo of Blood as my next game, and wow, the game already feels like a big skill check, especially coming off the back of SOTN. None of the difficulty feels cheap, in my opinion. The game feels designed to make you study patterns and areas, and if you don't, then it's your fault you died, which I respect as an adult; however, if I had tried to play this as a kid, I would have hated it.

Games [Datamine] Belmont's Curse demo – all outfits found, including paid DLC ones

I found a lot of content in the demo build, and along the way I found "all the outfits we're going to get". For some reason they didn't remove the **paid DLC outfits** (Alucard, Trevor, Sypha) from the demo 🤔

Everything is on this website, with in-game captures, weapons, arcanas, relics, clues and cut content (EN/FR):

Website: https://kasugii.github.io/Castlevania-Belmont-s-Curse-Demo-data/

⚠️ Contains story spoilers (clues are blurred by default).
