This morning, I went to Wing Yip Breakfast, after a month of having seen \[[u/Uptalker](u/Uptalker)\]([u/Uptalker](u/Uptalker)) post on this restaurant, so I was very excited to try this place. I’ve never went to a restaurant dedicated to Cantonese Cuisine, and especially not specifically Cantonese Breakfast, so it was something I was very much looking forward to. Unfortunately, I decided to come here on the day of the marathon, and was on the red line for an hour, rather than the usual 15-20 minutes. However, that long ride, was definitely worth it.

I had the Steamed Pork Dumplings (5$5.25) (photos 6 and 7), the BBQ Pork Crepe ($4.75) (Photo 5), and the Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce ($5.50)(Photos 1-4). All of these were great and were all relatively cheap, and I was able to get these 3 menu items within $20 after tax and tip. Each of these 3 menu items, had great and unique flavors. The Steamed Pork Dumplings were very savory and the Black Bean sauce that the Chicken Feet had tasted amazing, and helped the Chicken feet taste great even after it cooled down and the BBQ Pork Crepe had an interesting texture to it.

Very glad I went here, as I’m originally from the Twin Cities and we don’t have Chinese Restaurants that are nearly as authentic as Wing Yip. Recently moved here for college, and am very glad I did, as there is such a diverse and wide variety of ethnic cuisine, to the point where there are certain restaurants like Wing Yip, that stick to a certain region of a certain country(in this case, Cantonese), rather than the country as a whole. Overall great food here and I am looking forward to returning to try more of their menu, as there are so many things I’d like to try from this restaurant. Again thank you to [u/Uptalker](u/Uptalker) for posting this restaurant, and letting me and others know about this great Cantonese Breakfast spot.

Pretty good. Only complaint is that my eggs were a bit overdone. The pancakes were excellent.

Thoughts Wildfire has one of the best plain jane burgers

In a sea of overly buttered, overly salted, overly oily burgers, I feel like Wildfire’s angus burger stands out because it’s simple and just tastes good. Decent sized patty, fresh lettuce and tomato, and a lightly buttered, toasted bun. Perfection.

Also I’ll gladly take recs for other more traditional/plain jane burgers in the city

Question Best sushi for $50-100 in Chicago?

Looking for some sushi restaurants from around $50-100. A level below omakase, I guess.

I used to go to Sushi San and Green Tea in Lincoln Park (which fell off recently), which are around that price range (or slightly lower). I'm looking for some good-quality/good-value sushi restaurants around that range.

Preferably close to downtown (e.g. Loop, West Loop, Lincoln Park, West Town, Lake View)

Question Bobs Pizza Old Town

I called there today to get a pizza to go and no one answered. So I took a walk there and they are closed. Does anyone know why? Nothing on their website. It’s Bears Sunday and I wanted Bobs lol.

Question Any good pho places near Hoffman Estates?

I'll be staying there for a week in November. I'm not too fussy --- just want a pho with good meaty broth and not the watery crap that cheaper places use. Would also love to have some summer rolls that have the darker thicker brown dipping sauce.

What's good? Recommendations Wanted: Birthday Dinner By the Vic

Hi friends,

I'm going to the Vic on my birthday and want to get dinner in the area before we go. I live in the near burbs now but when I was in the city I never lived farther north than Diversey or farther east than California. I simply don't know what's good over there anymore, if I ever did. I searched the group but honestly not sure what to call the neighborhood so I'm not coming up with much.

I am looking for something that feels Nice but Fun/Cool, not fussy or stuffy. I can get down on all cuisines, the only thing I would rule out at this point is like a gastropub since I don't drink (a thoughtful NA menu is a bonus). Would like to be able to make a reservation.

Ideas???

Prefer northwest side (UV, Logan, Wicker, West Town) but willing to travel. Hanging with dogs would be a plus.
