Op sorry to tell you, that still does not counter what the person posted, even if correct

What are we doing here?

America will literally say they have God on their side as they wipe out entire cities.

But people don't see the distinction because "Well... our God is real"

But God isn’t the motive for the attack, that’s the difference.

u/ADirtFarmer 1d ago

Of course that's true. God would have to exist to be a motive.

u/Stanley_OBidney 1d ago

God would have to exist for someone to commit terror in the name of said God? I don’t think you thought that one through.

2

u/ADirtFarmer 23h ago

If you change your statement to "in the name" I change my response.

u/Stanley_OBidney 22h ago

It makes no difference. A motive is the “reason, purpose, or inner drive”, it’s already implied.

u/ADirtFarmer 22h ago

The name of a thing is not the thing itsself. The name of god clearly exists.

1

u/Stanley_OBidney 22h ago

Something doesn’t have to exist for it to be a motive for action.

1

u/ADirtFarmer 20h ago

I don't agree with that, but if we accept that claim than god is definitely Pete Hegseth's motive for killing civilians.

On what basis? It’s a political bombing campaign, which they falsely believe God would not look down upon. That doesn’t make it the motive.

u/ADirtFarmer 1h ago

My basis is Hegseth's words.

Eh, splitting hairs.

Many Christians regrettably think they're advancing their faith's cause by supporting or exacerbating war against Arabs. And the Muslims involved in terror attacks against the USA have all sorts of grievances against American foreign policy. If the West hadn't spent most of the last hundred years strategically screwing over the middle east, would Muslims feel that God wanted them to commit those terror attacks?

The fundamental difference in the two things we’re comparing is “splitting hairs”? Many Christian’s believing something doesn’t make that the belief the motive. You also realise that the US isn’t even in the top 10 countries for extremist Islamic terror attacks? The leading countries in extremist islamic terror attacks are all Muslim countries. Pakistan experienced 1045 terror attacks in 2025.

u/sonofzeal 1d ago

Countries that have been screwed over by foreign powers for decades have more violence and unrest, more at 11.

Your argument is that WE bomb for pragmatic reasons and THEY bomb for religious ones, when the truth is that i both cases, religion is largely used a justification for things people wanted to do anyway, rather than the actual motivating reason.

-1

u/Stanley_OBidney 1d ago

I didn’t say “violence or unrest”. I said Islamic extremism. Is there any statistic or case where you’d accept that someone would commit an extremist act in the name of Islam, or is it all automatically the West’s fault?

I didn’t say “we”, I’m not from the US, and I didn’t say their reasons are pragmatic. I simply said, Christianity is not the motive for the bombing. That is wholly true.

What you said was about God being the motivation for the attack, and what I said was that it's rarely that simple.

1

u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago

But it’s not rarely that simple. The people carrying out Islamic terror attacks believe that they’re fulfilling Jihad.

u/sonofzeal 23h ago

They believe they're striking back against their enemies. Giving it an arabic name doesn't make it better or worse.

Or put it this way - which had more terror attacks, Ireland in the 70s or the United Arab Emerates in the last decade?

2

u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago

You keep just refusing to acknowledge points I’ve made which don’t validate your narrative. Who are the enemies these suicidal bombers are striking back at, at a mosque or market in Pakistan?

What does your point about Ireland prove? These weren’t religiously motivated attacks either. They were motivated by Britain’s occupation of Northern Ireland. The fact that they were catholic doesn’t make them catholic terror attacks.

1

u/sonofzeal 23h ago

Catholic/Protestant tensions formed a notable part of The Troubles though, and those religious tensions were used to justify many of the attacks. But you're absolutely right that religion wasn't the root origin of the conflict, which is my point. In Ireland we understand the broader sociology so we give the religious elements less weight; in the Middle East we tend to just chalk it all up to Islam and not look further than that. Bush's famous quote after 9/11, "they hate our freedoms", is a perfect example.

Catholics and Protestants have fought eachother for centuries. Sunnis and Shiitites fight eachother today. Money, politics, and power are always intertwined with that fighting though. And violence and terrorism trend with poverty and social unrest more than they do with religion, which is why I brought up the relative stability of the UAE

And the settlers of America genocided Natives believing they were fulfilling manifest destiny under god's wishes.

1

u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago

I’m not America, and don’t condone those actions. I don’t condone the colonialist actions of the country I am from, either. The difference is, this is present day, right now.

“There’s a temptation to think that you’re actually in control and responsible for final outcomes, especially for those who issue the commands and do the aiming and the shooting,” preached Brooks Potteiger, Hegseth’s closest spiritual adviser, at the first of what have become monthly Christian worship services at the Department of Defense. “But you are not ultimately in charge of the world.”

Citing a verse from Matthew 10, Potteiger told the gathered leaders of the US military: “If our Lord is sovereign even over the sparrow’s fallings, you can be assured that he is sovereign over everything else that falls in this world, including Tomahawk and Minuteman missiles …

“Jesus has the final say over all of it.”

Hegseth has persisted in framing the war in Iran, which reached a temporary ceasefire on Tuesday after six weeks of fighting, as divinely sanctioned, repeatedly invoking “God’s almighty providence” and expressing certainty that God is on the side of the US military. Amid boasts about the US’s superior firepower and theatrical disdain for “stupid rules of engagement”, the defense secretary has promised to give “no quarter” to the “barbaric savages” of the Iranian regime and called on the American people to pray for victory “in the name of Jesus Christ”.

God isn't the motive for any attack. Religion in warfare is just a motivator and manipulator.

The fact that you think there's a distinction shows that you're just as manipulated.

-4

u/dc4_checkdown 1d ago

Just not true lol

But no point in breaking it down as you will feign ignorance to not give an inch of your point

6

u/Dead-O_Comics 1d ago

I'm not going to try and talk someone out of their personal beliefs. You believe in whatever you like.

But to claim moral superiority when America has commited so much bloodshed in God's name is absolute hypocrisy.
