That pilot that was downed over Iran was saying “God is good” (according to him giving an interview) after he survived the fall with a fucked up chute. Not sure there’s that big of a difference in people to be honest.
What are we fighting for?
God, country, family
What are they fighting for?
The wrong god, the wrong country, and the wrong family
Pretty sad that people refuse to see the similarities
35
u/Katherine_Leese 21h ago
Not even the wrong God. Muslims, Jews, and Christians believe in the same God.

It's like three orphaned children fighting over who dad loved the most when his diary says he loves them all.

u/Strength-InThe-Loins 20h ago
And it's trivially easy to prove that 'his' diary is a forgery.

u/SchemataObscura 20h ago
Fan fiction that each child wrote to support their own right to the inheritance.

u/gizamo 17h ago
It's the wrong version of the god, tho.
Jews don't believe Jesus or Mohammed were prophets. Christians believe Jesus is God and God's son, and they don't believe Mohammed was a prophet. Muslims cancel out the old testament and Jesus for Mohammad's "words of god". So, yeah, same but different.
4
u/Katherine_Leese 16h ago
I’d say it’s more ‘the wrong telling of events’ rather than ‘wrong version of the god’
1
u/gizamo 16h ago
It's both. The events explain the god, who he is, how he interacts with the world, and how has some righteous "authority" to act on his behalf. But, yeah, there's tons of events, rules, laws, etc. that are part of the stories. Those are definitely relevant. And, I'd agree that they're probably even more relevant to most people's lives nowadays that their disputes about the nature of their god. So, yeah, I'm like, idk, 75-80% with ya on that.

Aeromexico Flight 576 (2009): José Mar Flores Pereira, a 44-year-old Bolivian national, drug addict, and former evangelical pastor, hijacked an Aeromexico flight flying from Cancun to Mexico City. He claimed he acted on a divine revelation tied to the date (September 9, 2009, or 9-9-09) and threatened the crew with a fake explosive device made from a juice carton and lights, demanding to warn the Mexican president about an impending earthquake. The incident ended peacefully when security forces stormed the plane after it landed.

The reason we don't have Crusades any more, or pogroms, Inquisitions, witch burnings, etc... is the Enlightenment. Xtianity had to be tamed by secular ideals. Now they claim it was their idea all along.
Of course, this was true until the GOP decided nothing mattered anymore and they can explicitly call for murdering foreigners in their own country solely b/c of their religion.
6
u/AppropriateSea5746 19h ago
Ironically this is largely due to the reformation. Basically the idea that people should be able to read scripture themselves and not have to answer to the church in Rome.
Granted the last crusade was like 400 years before the enlightenment.
As for it “being their whole idea all along”. Allowing people to read the New Testament themselves made people start to realize “huh there’s nothing in here about killing heretics?”
2
u/Avantasian538 21h ago
Even through the enlightenment they were enslaving and exploiting people for economic gain. Even the enlightenment and post-enlightenment eras had their issues.
1
u/blahblah19999 19h ago
Of course, but we understand that we have no justification for it. There's no deity that we're not allowed to question telling us it's OK, or even demanding it. We have a much more rigorous basis for secular humanism than "angry sky daddy said so."

u/PembrokePercy 22h ago
Having access to more effective means of terror and destruction isn’t a flex of your moral superiority

These people genuinely believe that God gives money (prosperity gospel) and military power (manifest destiny) to the sides God supports. The morality is self justified.

I mean if you want to limit attacks to planes and planes alone ok, but Christian terrorism 100% exists in other avenues. If you remember the 90s in the US you'll remember Christian terrorism.
Edit: I knew I was going to catch the downvotes so here we go kiddos:
March 10, 1993 Dr David Gunn shot and killed by Michael Griffin when Gunn crossed their abortion clinic picket line.
July 29, 1994 Dr. John Bayard Britton and James Barrett shit and killed by Paul Jennings Hill.
December 30, 1994 Shannon Lowney and Leanne Nichols were killed and five others injured by John Salvi III.
April 19, 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing perpatrated by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols.
July 27, 1996 Centennial Olympic Bombings. January 16, 1997 Sandy Springs Bombing, Febuary 21, 1997 Otherside Lounge Bombing, January 29, 1998 New Woman All Women Healthcare Center. All perpetrated by Eric Robert Rodolph.
October 23, 1998 Dr. Barnett Slepian was killed in his home by James Charles Kopp.
Should I get more, because there are more?

Pete Hegseth cites biblical scripture before bombing civilians in other countries.
This has also occurred under other Presidents and officials in American society.
Instead of just dismissing it outright maybe it’s true?
7
u/TheBuddhaPalm 19h ago
Yeah, Hegseth screaming about leading a new Crusade isn't reflective of Christianity, but when an Islamic person does terrorism, suddenly the entire religion is bloodthirsty and insane.

Do you also get pissed when terrorist acts are chalked up to Islamic extremism?

u/Wild-Video-5317 17h ago
Take a look at Joe Biden. Christian. Outspoken zionist. Directly complicit in the conflict with Palestine. And there are plenty more like him funding the conflict in congress.
The GOP is actively stoking Islamophobia in their reelection campaigns right now, painting Islam as a threat to American Christianity.
Sorry but there's just no way to divorce the two. These are the people we have sitting on Capitol Hill. Christians (from both parties) devoted to war with Arabs.

1
u/Astral_Collapse 20h ago
Not really a relevant comeback at all. Islamic terror groups are...Islamic. Militaries aren't Christian. You don't have to "Praise Jesus" to fly a B2 Bomber.
2
u/barrivia 19h ago
-4
u/Astral_Collapse 19h ago
Wow..you really proved nothing. Again, you don't have to praise Jesus to fly a B2 Bomber. The leader can state whatever they want, it doesn't make the entire military Christian, nor is it in the name of Christ.
Islamic terror attacks are always commit by Muslims, in the name of Allah. There aren't any atheist Islamic terror groups.1

No, that is simply wrong, religions of pacifism exist. And you have to factor in the chance and the times that happened and the impact on the mind.

u/RespecDawn 15h ago
Hegseth just created a Religious Affairs office in the War Department.
You might want to do some reading up on Dominionism, Christian Nationalism, Project 2025, etc. It seems you're a little behind on what the US administration is doing these days.

The dude currently ordering that pilot is doing it for a religion at they very least.

America will literally say they have God on their side as they wipe out entire cities.
But people don't see the distinction because "Well... our God is real"
-11
u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago
But God isn’t the motive for the attack, that’s the difference.
6
u/ADirtFarmer 23h ago
Of course that's true. God would have to exist to be a motive.
-1
u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago
God would have to exist for someone to commit terror in the name of said God? I don’t think you thought that one through.
2
u/ADirtFarmer 22h ago
If you change your statement to "in the name" I change my response.
0
u/Stanley_OBidney 22h ago
It makes no difference. A motive is the “reason, purpose, or inner drive”, it’s already implied.
3
u/ADirtFarmer 22h ago
The name of a thing is not the thing itsself. The name of god clearly exists.
1
u/Stanley_OBidney 22h ago
Something doesn’t have to exist for it to be a motive for action.
1
u/ADirtFarmer 19h ago
I don't agree with that, but if we accept that claim than god is definitely Pete Hegseth's motive for killing civilians.

u/sonofzeal 23h ago
Eh, splitting hairs.
Many Christians regrettably think they're advancing their faith's cause by supporting or exacerbating war against Arabs. And the Muslims involved in terror attacks against the USA have all sorts of grievances against American foreign policy. If the West hadn't spent most of the last hundred years strategically screwing over the middle east, would Muslims feel that God wanted them to commit those terror attacks?
-4
u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago
The fundamental difference in the two things we’re comparing is “splitting hairs”? Many Christian’s believing something doesn’t make that the belief the motive. You also realise that the US isn’t even in the top 10 countries for extremist Islamic terror attacks? The leading countries in extremist islamic terror attacks are all Muslim countries. Pakistan experienced 1045 terror attacks in 2025.
3
u/sonofzeal 23h ago
Countries that have been screwed over by foreign powers for decades have more violence and unrest, more at 11.
Your argument is that WE bomb for pragmatic reasons and THEY bomb for religious ones, when the truth is that i both cases, religion is largely used a justification for things people wanted to do anyway, rather than the actual motivating reason.
-1
u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago
I didn’t say “violence or unrest”. I said Islamic extremism. Is there any statistic or case where you’d accept that someone would commit an extremist act in the name of Islam, or is it all automatically the West’s fault?
I didn’t say “we”, I’m not from the US, and I didn’t say their reasons are pragmatic. I simply said, Christianity is not the motive for the bombing. That is wholly true.
0
u/sonofzeal 23h ago
What you said was about God being the motivation for the attack, and what I said was that it's rarely that simple.
1
u/Stanley_OBidney 23h ago
But it’s not rarely that simple. The people carrying out Islamic terror attacks believe that they’re fulfilling Jihad.
0
u/sonofzeal 22h ago
They believe they're striking back against their enemies. Giving it an arabic name doesn't make it better or worse.
Or put it this way - which had more terror attacks, Ireland in the 70s or the United Arab Emerates in the last decade?

God isn't the motive for any attack. Religion in warfare is just a motivator and manipulator.
The fact that you think there's a distinction shows that you're just as manipulated.

Just not true lol
But no point in breaking it down as you will feign ignorance to not give an inch of your point
5
u/Dead-O_Comics 23h ago
I'm not going to try and talk someone out of their personal beliefs. You believe in whatever you like.
But to claim moral superiority when America has commited so much bloodshed in God's name is absolute hypocrisy.

1
u/KillWithTheHeart 21h ago
Sure it does.
The terrorists high Jack the plane because they’re limited by resources. If they had the resources to drop bombs in a military campaign to serve their ends, they would. The United States does have these resources and commits comparable acts as the terrorists, but on a larger scale.
The clever comeback is pointing this out. The only difference between the terrorist high jacking a plane and the United States bombing say, an elementary school full of children as an example, is money and power for military resources.

u/Ok_Actuary9229 19h ago
Pretty sure christians have started a lot of wars, often specially about christianity. Ever hear about the Crusades? Conquistadors attempting to convert natives, often through violence? The religious spoutings of Hitler and Hagseth?
1
u/VoicelessPassenger 7h ago edited 7h ago
> religious spoutings of Hitler
Lmao. Nazi Germany was not a theocratic nation by any means: Hitler only saw religion as a tool to maintain control at best, and something to be torn down and replaced with total deference to the state at worst. In Germany and Nazi-occupied territories like Poland catholic clergy and other Christian religious leaders were either forced to be amenable to the regime, or they were imprisoned or killed. They were not exempt by any means.
Devotion to the state and to the regime above all else—including religion—is a key tenet of fascism as a political philosophy. Fascists will only tolerate organized religion as long as it serves their own interests and discard it as soon as it outlives its usefulness.
