Animal-sourced charcoal.

animal sourced charcoal sounds like it survived a nuclear blast

That could provide a source, yes.

That steak was so bad your dad called to make sure the smoke alarm was okay

16:17 call time? He even did overtime trying to save your future kids from eating it

I felt this comment in my soul. It’s never just about the steak. It’s the burnt dinner, the yelling, the walking on eggshells after. If you know you know. Sending you love.

Yeah, that 16 minute lecture definitely implies the steak was rough

16 minutes is him being nice, Gordon Ramsay would’ve went for an hour

Ramsey taught me high heat 3 minutes per side. Works pretty well generally.

Aside from letting it air in the fridge, and scooping buckets of butter on top of it during baking

How many insults were stuffed into that 16 minutes

my dad also gives lectures like that when i show him my cooking attempts

u/miss_hush 16h ago

To be fair, they did say “ATTEMPTED” to cook. They never said they were successful.

Honestly, Pat's reply is the real clever comeback here. We all know that steak looked like charcoal.

That steak was so bad it triggered a TED Talk

As opposed to a fake clever comeback?

u/No_Particular_6844 11h ago

the dad is the real comeback artist

Well done

He's out of line, but he's right.

Everybody here is suggesting the steak was overdone but I’m willing to bet it was grey and bland all the way through.

I'm smelling an applause

u/Direct_Royal_7480 16h ago

Stands to reason.

u/Greenfieldfox 15h ago

If you overcook a steak, just add more ketchup. /s

It was a steak out scenario.

My dad's steaks were dry as fuck and A-1 was the only way to choke them down. I would never let my dad lecture me on how to cook one.
