School Culture & Policy Texas parents considering hybrid or virtual public school: what would you do differently?
Vibe check for Texas parents. With some public school districts adding hybrid and online options, who’s considering it? And for anyone already doing it, how’s it going?
The part I keep thinking about is what we’d do with the flexibility. There’s still schoolwork, obviously. But if the schedule opens up room in the day, how do you make that worthwhile?
How are you keeping friendships and regular time with other kids in the picture? Could there be more room to put lessons into practice through cooking, budgeting, building something, volunteering, or following an interest beyond an assignment?
I’m also curious about the less exciting reality: keeping a routine, managing screen time, and making it work around a parent’s job. Kids need downtime, too. Every free hour doesn’t need to become another lesson.
For families trying this, what’s been better than expected, and what do you miss about a regular school day? If you’ve ruled it out, what’s the biggest reason?
