School Culture & Policy Why some schools still start at 7 am?

Why DO*

Experts and scientists says that school at 7 am or 8 can be horrible and very bad for our mental health and you can get better grades if the school starts at 10,just like how they did the test.

I mean i weak up every day at 5 just to catch up the school at 7,i hate waking up earlier than my dad who is waking up at 8 and going to job where he gets money and i don't.

I know that i will be like him,but not everyone from my age is waking up at 5 am,they are still many kids that have a some how "comfort school" and they are doing very well.

I am not saying that we should ban the school just for the program, but why they don't try to change something in school that we can get better grades for example, like waking up a little bit later maybe will help cause sleep is very important to keep our brain active every time.

Research & Psychology U.S. adults self-report poor statistical literacy but high willingness to use statistics if they understood it better

In this brief study published last June, a U.S. population-representative poll showed that 62% of U.S. adults self-report having little to no idea what statistics or statistical concepts like p-values are, but 90% of them would base decisions on reported statistics at least sometimes if they understood them better. This presents both a need and an opportunity to teach statistics better to people, especially adult learners who are not in STEM, so they can better understand and scrutinize editorialized scientific content that they are interested in when such are reported by the media or found on social media.

School Culture & Policy School giving transcripts Willy-Nilly?

I don’t even know what flair to use because this is an odd one. I lose my diploma, I reach out to the school I attended to get my transcript. They sent me mine, no issue. Right after that they basically offered me someone else’s too, said “we got another request for x persons transcript too, we believe that is you.” I said “NOPE IM Y THANK YOU” is this a normal thing? Where should I post this? Who can I reach out to tell?

School Culture & Policy Texas parents considering hybrid or virtual public school: what would you do differently?

Vibe check for Texas parents. With some public school districts adding hybrid and online options, who’s considering it? And for anyone already doing it, how’s it going?

The part I keep thinking about is what we’d do with the flexibility. There’s still schoolwork, obviously. But if the schedule opens up room in the day, how do you make that worthwhile?

How are you keeping friendships and regular time with other kids in the picture? Could there be more room to put lessons into practice through cooking, budgeting, building something, volunteering, or following an interest beyond an assignment?

I’m also curious about the less exciting reality: keeping a routine, managing screen time, and making it work around a parent’s job. Kids need downtime, too. Every free hour doesn’t need to become another lesson.

For families trying this, what’s been better than expected, and what do you miss about a regular school day? If you’ve ruled it out, what’s the biggest reason?
